Insurgency is hands down, the best I've seen for gunplay. The way the gun moves without the head moving, the different type of reload, the sound they have is just so pleasing
Drewski, I wish I had a PC. There aren’t any games on console that are like arma, squad, etc. There should at least be one game that is realistic on console, but console companies just don’t care. 🤦🏻😭
I got a older pc too. The original insurgency is pretty playable. The first Red Orchestra and Darkest Hour are easy really good large scale combined arms games. Swat 4 is a must play realistic cqb game. The early ghost recons and rainbow sixes should be playable on a old pc. Red orchestra 2 and Rising Storm could be playable with a okay pc. The other ones listed are so low demand you might be able to play with just modern integrated graphics. (I know that Swat 4 can be done so for a fact bc I played it on a modern non gaming computer with integrated graphics)
Another note on BF1 gunplay, the feedback the game gives you when you get a kill is priceless. I will never get tired of getting a headshot with the Martini Henry and hearing the bang of the gun and than the satisfying ding
Bro. Videos like this help me so much as an aspiring game developer. And I 100% agree on the no excuse for bad gunplay nowadays. If you're an indie game dev and you want to make a shooter game, perfect it by looking at other games before even talking about it with other people, you're not a company with a deadline so take your time.
I kinda hope they do something similar to how Modern Warfare does customization and progression, except a little less focused on stat changes with attachments and more on just having different options. Too much focus on stats causes everyone to use the "best build" and makes a lot of attachments simply useless or put you at a major disadvantage.
@@kristiecornell5723 Pre TTK change BF5 gunplay was pretty good actually. And after all of the updates and reverting the TTK changes its actually not that bad gunplay. Especially the sniping.
He does mention sandstorm but at the same time the first Insurgency was monumental in my eyes for being the first game Ive seen that uses that system of hipfiring, i.e. your gun shoots where its actually pointing
Drew, I just wanted to add that on top of how the gun affects the world in gunplay, you I think that the environment and the setting or theme of the map changes and improves gunplay the same amount as animations or textures do. Modern warfare's night time house raid scene improves the gunplay because you feel like a special op.
Once you start playing D2 Crucible a lot you'll start to realize there is a lot to love about the gunplay, but also a lot to hate about it. Mainly aim assisst/bullet magnetism.
A game like Halo, they also have very low recoil to make it easier to land hits because the ttk is much higher. Recoil is a very important factor in my opinion when it comes to "gunplay" in games. also I feel like division does it as well as Destiny when it comes to the modifiers and diversity :D Great Video can't wait for more :)
The way you write your script was the "thing" that attracted me to your channel. I'm Brazilian, I like fps in general, but I wasn't introduced to this more "realistic" part of games, like Tarkov, Rising Storm 2, Squad and etc. I never took any specific course to study English language at all, and all I know I learned playing games, so the simple way you conduct your videos "linguistically" makes them accessible to a lot of people like me. Keep up the good work, I really admire your work.
Drewski says game devs improve their gunplay over time. Modern warfare 2019 - good gunplay, Black ops Cold War 2020 - gunplay you’d find on ps2 games. Other than that I agree. In Tarkov you really feel and see the power of the guns
I really liked the gunplay in BF V, and it just felt so... smooth. It just worked for me, the best gunplay I've experienced (I don't have that much experience tho 😂)
Great video! well thought out and explained great. also it really amazes me how diffirent gunplay is between mil-sim, casual, competetive and rpg shooter games.
5:57 I personally have to disagree. While the models, animations, customization and sound design is amazing, shooting the gun is... really underwhelming. When you shoot, the gun just looks floaty. Like, it has no sharp, violent kickback or anything. It just moves around like it's floating underwater. If they had the same recoil feedback as in Insurgency: Sandstorm, it would easily be the best gunplay out there.
A very underrated game with incredible gunplay is Red Orchestra. Best feeling of any shooter I've played so far. The moment you shoot, you know exactly if thats a kill or not.
Halo´s gunplay is way harder than battlefield or cod. I´ve been a long time bf and cod player and used to think like you but after playing halo I realised just how much more strategy and skill you need to take down an oponent with the longer ttk, grenades taking a much more central role in gunfights and the shield-player damage mechanics.
The huge issue i take with bf1 is the random bullet deviation, the bullets simply don't go where you aim but rather have a spread values applied to them. It's the worst thing you could do in a shooter game. Bf5 does it much better with bullets always going where you aim and giving you a recoil you need to learn to control.
Yes. I don’t understand how he says Destiny’s gunplay is varied and that’s what makes it good, but he also says it’s the only good looter-shooter. Borderlands 2 had far more variety. The more I shoot guns and hand load my own ammo IRL, the more I hate shooting them in games. It's just a sad truth so many games do guns wrong, oh so wrong. Maybe that's why I've now focused on shooting/military sims, or games where the weapons are so unlike anything IRL, that my immersion isn't broken by glaringly obvious gun errors. Even many of Cyberpunk 2077's gun designs look horrible (especially the Ajax) when you understand how a gun actually works inside. Games like Borderlands 2, Halo, and other sci-fi gun heavy games have become my jam if I want some fun just tearing things up, and not have my immersion broken by retarded mistakes that highlight the fact the devs have never seen - much less used - a real gun in person in their lives.
I always love gunplay in left 4 dead 2, that part when you are in a empty mall and everything is dark, and you can use your flashlight or go insane with a automatic weapon and see the flashing lights that covers everything with every single shot you take, what a cool sensation to shot in that game
As someone who's played just about all of these games I'm surprised you didn't talk about MW's gunplay. There were a few clips but no comments on it. To me I think the gunplay in that game was easily the best I'd ever felt. That's the main reason I stick with it over Cold War even though the gameplay is kinda crap. It feels better than any other game I've played and whenever I go to another shooter, it feels like I'm playing an arcade game.
To be honest, I didn't like multiplayer on MW because it was too fast to appreciate the gunplay. I wasn't looking at my gun - I was looking for my opponents so that I can spray them and move to another location. However, Warzone makes that a lot slower and you get a lot of time to respect the nuances of each weapon class. No longer is everything just "big gun, small gun, fast firing, slow firing."
Yeah I get that. I'm just waiting for the next mw to come out. Hopefully they'll keep the same engine and gunplay but build a more enjoyable game around it
MW2019 has multiple different gunplay experiences for the same gun depending on who is holding it. It's such a simple but impressive idea, not only for the player associating with the gun, but associating with the character through which they associate with the gun and thereby influence the world. As a child, Farrah can not even carry an AK-47, it fires with no aiming, like a giant noisemaker/firecracker; A perfect characterization of making a deal with the devil so you can run away. As an adult escaping her prison, the same rifle is now an opportunity, offering revenge and liberation as much as escape. Her reloads are slow and sloppy, her aim is off, and her form is abysmal, and none of it matters because she's doing whatever it takes to liberate her fellow prisoners. Finally, as full fledged operator, whether leading militia fighters or fighting alongside Price in Verdansk, she's quick, silent, invisible, invincible, and frankly a little sadistic, using the very same rifle not to eliminate enemies, but to terrify and punish them. And that characterization comes from gunplay in an organic and inversive way that dialogue just can't deliver.
Insurgency Sandstorm has an awesome gunplay, and the most frightening grenade sound i ever heard in a game, its a shame that doesnt have a lot of players, here in Brasil almost 0.
Drewski: we have a universal agreement on how guns should feel. Cold war: nah, lets just release are game with really shitty gun play, you know the main thing in a cod game.
I would be very interested to see you play a game called "Hunt:Showdown", considering that it's pretty distinct compared to the games you've showcased.
we need to get a mix of tarkov and squad, like tarkov gunplay in squad and maybe a game mode like tarkov but you can respawn without worrying about loot, maybe somewhat of a make your own loadout kind of like in the newer MW so we can upgrade equipment as we progress, to make it fair new players will play till they can get more ideal weapons and play with everybody else
EFT has the best gunplay. I hope the next game they make utilizes their current system. It is literally the most in depth weapon system bar-none. Squad and insurgency come in second but they both have the problem where the gun feels weightless.

Interesting you didn't mention the gunplay in MW19...which is honestly the most realistic game I've seen in terms of weapon animations. Everything is so fluid. It's hard not to grin like an idiot every time I reload the 1911 with an empty mag. Sound effects as well are absolutely fantastic.

Left handed animal reporting in.
Insurgency Sandstorm is coming to Console at some point I believe

And this video is facts doe, gunplay is a huge part of a first person shooter.

I kinda hope they do something similar to how Modern Warfare does customization and progression, except a little less focused on stat changes with attachments and more on just having different options. Too much focus on stats causes everyone to use the "best build" and makes a lot of attachments simply useless or put you at a major disadvantage.

Drewski says game devs improve their gunplay over time. Modern warfare 2019 - good gunplay, Black ops Cold War 2020 - gunplay you’d find on ps2 games. Other than that I agree. In Tarkov you really feel and see the power of the guns
Well you see when your putting out a call of a duty every year you have compromise sometimes
But you not gonna denied the fact that MW had shit tons of problems at launch.

I personally have to disagree.

Titanfall 2 handled the idea of "Uniquely yours" kind of gunplay very well, game is so underrated.
I’m still waiting on a game like Squad or Arma but with destruction physics like a Battlefield game

Alternate title: "Why guns are important in gun games"
My one problem with that game is a lack of usable gunsights on almost everything.
That warthog goes BRR won me as your new loyal subscriber
3:54 Jesus, that reloading animation is so sexy!

Battlefield 3’s gunplay was excellent. Especially on hardcore
Hopefully they'll keep the same engine and gunplay but build a more enjoyable game around it
@@grantheine6068 Yeah, no more... door shotguns please.
Up Next! Why batteries are important to electronics in less than 13 Minutes!
Bro I just f*cking died when that A10 joke hit me
