Lyrics
Heaven, a gateway, a hope
Just like a feeling inside, it's no joke
And though it hurts me to see you this way
Betrayed by words, I'd never heard, too hard to say
Up, down, turn around
Please don't let me hit the ground
Tonight I think I'll walk alone
I'll find my soul as I go home
Up, down, turn around
Please don't let me hit the ground
Tonight I think I'll walk alone
I'll find my soul as I go home
Each way I turn, I know I'll always try
To break this circle that's been placed around me
From time to time, I find I've lost some need
That was urgent to myself, I do believe
Up, down, turn around
Please don't let me hit the ground
Tonight I think I'll walk alone
I'll find my soul as I go home
Up, down, turn around
Please don't let me hit the ground
Tonight I think I'll walk alone
I'll find my soul as I go home
Oh, you've got green eyes
Oh, you've got blue eyes
Oh, you've got grey eyes
Oh, you've got green eyes
Oh, you've got blue eyes
Oh, you've got grey eyes
And I've never seen anyone quite like you before
No, I've never met anyone quite like you before
Bolts from above hurt the people down below
People in this world, we have no place to go
Bolts from above hurt the people down below
People in this world, we have no place to go
Bolts from above hurt the people down below
People in this world, we have no place to go
Bolts from above hurt the people down below
People in this world, we have no place to go
Oh, it's the last time
Oh, it's the last time
Oh, it's the last time
Oh, it's the last time
Oh, it's the last time
Oh, I've never met anyone quite like you before
Oh no, I've never met anyone quite like you before

New Order never gets old. My 21 year old daughter asked me what I used to listen to at her age. I sent her a few links to New Order, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, etc. I was pleasantly surprised to hear her Spotify filled up w/almost all their songs.
RIP Ian.
This is brilliant. I don't have kids, but I have three nieces and much to the chagrin of my brother's wife, i offer them music they would neve hear otherwise. Thank you for your comment!
Parenting done right.
Good to hear. This song is ART. Pure. Inspirational. Free.

My heart aches when I hear this. This is the soundtrack to the most wonderfully innocent days of my young adulthood with my now husband. I love it so much. I remember playing the tape in my little Panasonic boom box with a broken handle and scratches all over it. It was the only electronic item I had and it was all I needed. Thank you New Order.

Day 63 of listening to Temptation for a year
In 1987, I bought 'Substance' at the mall. I sat in the parking lot and listened to the whole album. It is still one of my favorites. The lyrics. These folks are genius.

And amazing time to be young. This came out in 1983 my senior year in high school. The list of top alt songs will blow you away. All these years later my fav bands are still The Cure,Depeche Mode and New Order still

Along way from you in the US but it also defined an era of club music in New Zealand too. Ah the memories......

I grew up in the era of this music as a teen and feel sooo lucky I got to experience one of the greatest decades of music, so many different types of groups were exploding on the scene in the 80's, it was a great time and I'll be listening to it till I pass...
Well put!
New order two weeks after Blue Monday came out, the crowd shouts temptation, Bernard by now on the Pernod says stuff temptation up your arse and it comes on to a big cheer and he plays the solo cross legged
While I agree with you about this era, as it was what I lived with and listened to when I was young, I think most people feel the same way about the music they grew up with. Probably memory, nostalgia, etc. have as much to do with it as the particulars of the music itself. Most musical eras will have artists and bands that rebel, innovate, resonate, inspire, etc. You can see that throughout music history. The fact that I don't see that in last 15 years is probably just b/c I'm getting older and more disconnected from youth and popular culture. It also might have something to do with Autotune overkill.
Same
Same for me! Unforgetable days...
Fun fact: The lass in the video, Victoria Bergsman, is a singer. Probably best known for singing on 'Young Folks' by Peter Bjorn and John. It's thought that her shoplifting records is a nod to Ian Curtis who used to do the same as an adolescent.

There's something very endearing about this song, it's sort of a mix of nostalgia, bittersweetness, it evokes a certain emotion, also just a really good song.
I could listen to New Order everyday. There's a very dreamy, almost effervescent, quality about the songs
There is a certain melancholy in this masterpiece.
Edit: When I was a teenager in the 80ies, I heard this song for the first time. It was just another happy song on my WALKMAN.
But you get older and wish sometimes, you could be 16 forever. Almost 40 years later (!) I saw the video for the first time. Victoria Bergsman reminded me of a girl I used to know. I never saw her again and I will never be 16 again. Both hurts.
Agree, it is very relaxing/interesting to listen to
Really??? Ahahahahaha ahahahahaha all the songs of new order has melancholy 😔
Exquisite sorrow is (occasional that is😀) inescapable? It’s beauty is what puts the tear in your eye.
It really depends on what station and stage in life you are at in regards to how this song makes you feel. Melancholy is the mood, it's like looking at an old photo album or reading love letters you found in a box long forgotten and hidden away.

Sometimes I get this thing where good memories hurt me and I'm not sure I can explain why. It was so so so good in these days with New Order. We were young and time seemed to stop. The clothes, the music, the friends, the fun, the lights of the club, the drinking.... we thought it would never end. But it did, and maybe that's what the pain is. Give me just one more day. It hurts that I am so far away from these old days.

Up, down, turn around
Please don't let me hit the ground
Tonight I think I'll walk alone
I'll find my soul as I go home
Oh, you've got green eyes
Oh, you've got blue eyes
Oh, you've got grey eyes
And I've never seen anyone quite like you before
No, I've never met anyone quite like you before
Bolts from above hit the people down below
People in this world, we have no place to go
Oh, it's the last time
Oh, I've never met anyone quite like you before
Oh no, I've never met anyone quite like you before...
:D
My girls (and boy) have blue eyes. They all love the Glens.
😀
Thanks

Brilliant
New Order will always be way ahead of whatever current time you live in! Phenomenal work!
I just purchased tickets to see them Sept.17th in Toronto. I know it's not the original lineup, but I don't care. I love this band. I'm 65 now and I've followed them ever since they were Joy Division. My son , my wife and I are going. All big fans of this great band.
Almost 60 and I still get chills when I hear this song
This track never ages. Masterpiece.
You are correct - it never ages.
The aesthetics of this video are sublime. Ageless.
I've watched this many, many times just for the sheer beauty of it.
Yeah I've watched it over and over again. It almost feels like it's inspired by the movie Vivre Sa Vie, a 1960's French Film starring Anna Karina. The woman in this music video is almost styled like her too. In any case, it's such a beautiful video.
This song and video will always make me feel 20-something and falling in absolute love with a young woman from Leeds that came to New York. She was such a stylish person and taught me so much about culture and music. In a microscopic time period she left an indelible imprint. I still chase records that we shared.
Decades later we still share music from time to time.
And I've never. Met. Anyone. Quitelikeyoubefore.
I had a close approximation to this experience in Ireland a few months back. The most beautiful dark haired woman I’ve come across was a part of our tour around Ireland. It was unrequited love after all was over, but she was super lovely about it. I did manage to tell her how i felt during the trip, which is something i have never done.
Was she a talented shoplifter?
Why'd you try to contact her? You know, things change-she's maybe a oh a mutt
Wow i used to live in Leeds, England. What a great experience you had.
Is there a limit on how many times you can hear this song before you get sick of it? Because I've yet to find it
No sir! That mission is hopeless. Enjoy!!!
Still trying nearly 40 years on.....
I'm past 10k and not getting close
Almost 4 years listening at this beautiful song, and I still love it.
Nope. I'm on my 3rd repeat of the evening.
I LOVE JOY DIVISION AND EARLY NEW ORDER... this just reminds me of how well Bernard and Hooky wrote great music together.
I joined the Army in 1996 and at 18, in basic training, this song on a soundtrack (Trainspotting) on a little Panasonic CD player was my safe space that made all things ok. Looking back after a great career, it takes me straight back there. Made me miss the lass I'd left so much, but looking back it's what drove me on. Awesome and TY New Order.
Outstanding song, get the same chills listening to it at 50 as I did at 17
@Hunter Vonnegut i will.
@John C. Just like me. I'm exactly the same age.
One of their masterpieces that "just worked" everything comes together, and the emotional punch is the same 40 years later. Great production on this video too, as much a classic as the song itself. There are two temptations here, I think, one is literally taken. Love it! Probably will still be playing it when I'm 80.
@Hunter Vonnegut cool, will do.
Agreeable should have seen them live prayer
ONE OF THE BEST SONGS EVER WRITTEN
Even when I'm feeling like shit, listening to this song somehow makes my day.
Me too...like today for example. I feel much better now
X 2
A perfect song for the wonderful soundtrack to the film 'Trainspotting'! A vulnerable, aching, incredibly catchy gem of a song (by a non New Order fan)
The girl is Victoria Bergsman

HI FRIEND, I'M BRAZILIAN. KISS
Bad girl, you should be listen it at least once a day!
Born in 82. My uncles baby sat me to this kinda music. I remember it like it was yesterday. Nostalgic and great bass lines. Riffs are bangers. Real music real instruments. Real voices. 🔥 ❤️
Here I am again for my dose of my favourite New Order song ever. I have every single album from them, and after all almost 40 years of listening to New Order...this song still sits on top for me.
love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
@@pedropagan7811 here again.
Whenever I'm listening to this song, I want to jump out of my body and be a soul.
What a beautiful way of saying it, I have to agree with you.
Moozy Mathers , beautifully put
Exactly
What a cool thing to say
You only get 1 chance to do that . Make it count when you do
I've been listing to this song, for more than 40 years....and each time its like the first time. Fun, enigmatic, rowdy, loving, moody, tender, energizing and completely unique. And it ends...so...beautifully.
That's not possible
It is possible. @Matthew Smith 💖
This has got to be top 10 of all time, brilliant song.
One of the best out of an excellent basket of music from the best band to ever grace this earth. No matter how low I get with depression, these guys (and girl) always manage to lift my spirits!
I’m Mexican. 🇲🇽. New Order crosses all boundaries.
Absolutamente, yo soy de Ecuador. :D
Lo mismo ocurre con los mexicanos
Yes! New Order even crosses the Mexican border!

@@geelee1977 Es verdad, pero no son una plaga tan grande como los venezolanos chavistas.
Born in 70, may I please go back to this era when social media was a record store, there was only dial up, and it was acoustically driven!
I was born in 69, never had social media. I've been recommended so much music by RUclips's algorithm that I never would have heard otherwise. I wouldn't want to go back to the days of when I could finally afford a CD, it was a choice between an album I might only know one or two songs from (a risk), or upgrading a favourite from cassette to CD (never felt like getting a new album).
Happy listening, however you find your music.
This song is a work of art,Pure class
Probably the best band we've ever seen.Truly inspiring. Can't say no more
The girl is a Kleptomaniac and she stole my heart....

Was a freshman in college when this hit, and gave my speakers a good work out - one of the best songs at the time, and still today, epic.
Literally one of the best songs ever written.
As a born & bred Mancunian, by God this talks to me.
If you don't see beauty in this then I pray for you!
the apartment, the style, the music - i want to live in this music video
Most of us do.
