    If we did have an industrial blender, this would be the perfect movie to try it out on. "Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths" is one of the best DC animated movies to date...but is it part of the "Timmverse"?

    Thank you for this content! It's funny and informative! I already knew that while the original intention was for it to be in the DCAU, things changed and the end product while having multiple similarities was still just too inconsistent to fit into canon. By the way, what else will this "Will It Canon?" series cover? This video shows Justice League Doom, and I remember you guys replying to me in a comment that another subject was the Teen Titans, but any other cartoon series or DTV movies? Otherwise the only other things left would be comics and video game tie-ins.

      Superman 64 was basically a dream that Lex Luther had when he tried snorting kryptonite dust like if it was crack cocaine. The resulting effect knocked him out and put him in a special kind of high that kryptonian hippies usually went into, but it was too much for his human mind, and the after shock left him so insane that he went and made a memory extractor just to pull that dream out of his head and into a nearby Nintendo 64 game cartridge. That's when he got the brilliant idea to try to sell copies of it and make millions off of it, and that's how it came to be.

    I came to pretty much the same conclusion that you did. Something very much like CRISIS ON TWO EARTHS happened in the DCAU, but not exactly like it. But I consider the explanations for the expanded League membership, the new Watchtower with the JL teleporter, and Wonder Woman's invisible jet to be more or less what happened in the world of the JLU. I list it in my DCAU Timeline under the original title, WORLDS COLLIDE.

      That's what I am thinking. Plus Martian Manhunter showing Staro could be interpreted as one of their first unrecorded missions in the DCAU. Remember that the Justice League were coming back from an unaired mission when the events of "The Savage Time" occurred. It's not that hard to reconcile "Crisis On Two Earths" and "Doom" with the rest of the Justice League/JLU continuity. Also, this might also be a contingency plan simulation run by Batman soon after the events of "Star Crossed".

    As a thought experiment, it would be interesting to imagine if 'Crisis on two worlds' was made as and aired before JLU season 1. How would the story lines in the movie change aspects of the Unlimited Show. The first thing that comes to my mind is the arc of the Question and that he would not have the certainty that 'Luthor is Luthor in any world' because he would know better because of this movie. Another method of coming to the confrontation in Luthor's office would need to be established. Perhaps an episode where the Question brakes League protocol and contacts the Questions from the Lords world, and the Crisis world (in a Silence of Lambs locked up style). With our Question coming to the same conclusion of sacrificing himself to End Luthor with the logic "good, bad or raving mad - a Luthor will change the world." That would be just one way episodes would need to change to accommodate the original release plan.

    If it where up to me, I'd just make it so that Hal and John Stewart end up having to partner up to save Hal's original partner, Kilowog, from an anti-alien taskforce, because Guy Gardner would've been their any other option for a human secret Green Lantern operative, and they both hate him because of how obnoxious he is (in a Lethal Weapon type of story).
    Personally, I just don't mind that John Stewart was the Green Lantern of the Timverse instead of Hal Jordan (Same goes for the odd Wally West name change). One way i've always interpreted this movie is that similar events that took place in this universe also took place in the main dcau timeline, we just never saw them. Like this basically gave us a similar look into those events, albeit a bit of a different version of those. It's not canon, 100%, however, it is fun to see how it would have bridged the gap between JL and JLU. We see the introduction of the invisible jet, the new Watchtower in production, and even the genesis of the idea for expanding the League, all things likely unchanged from the original script. It's probably best it isn't canon, though, as it works REALLY well on its own, and it might have been a bit derivative of "A Better World" from JL. Still fun to view it with the knowledge it was gonna be in the DCAU.
    Side Note: While watching it, was trying to figure out if Hal Jordan replaced John Stewart, then who replaced Hawkgirl in the script. Then I realized why she wasn't in it in the first place and broke my heart all over again. Honestly would have been interesting to see the League dealing with the aftermath of Starcrossed, honestly. That's the biggest advantage "Crisis On Two Earths" could have had in being set in the DCAU.

    I loved this movie. It was pretty cool, and I liked seeing Hal. I especially love the art style. They basically use it with a little less detail in Young Justice. I really like the Bruce Timm universe art style, but the style of this movie, Justice League: Doom, and Young Justice is my absolute favorite. On a side note, I like to thank that the criminally underrated Green Lantern: The Animated Series, which had the awful misfortune of debuting not long after the Green Lantern film in 2011, is within the DCAU continuity. I swear, it looks like it has the exact same art style, just in 3D animation instead of the traditional 2D. It introduces the Red Lanterns and all of their prominent members like Atrocitus, Mogo, the Blue Lantern Saint Walker, and a whole lot of other awesome stuff. I think it even uses the Orange Lantern Larfleeze. I don't think any of it conflicts with anything in DCAU continuity, because 99.99% of it is in far off space. It's certainly good enough to count itself in the DCAU.

    It seems this could/should have been canon. However, WB took great care (for whatever dumb reason) to be certain it was NOT.
    Looking back to the source material, I felt the first couple "Crisis" stories [Two Earths & Three Earths], back before it became a stunt "event" were good. It gave a chance to bring in seldom-seen characters and new twists on established ones (Hero Lex!) without warping continuity with "dream" or "imaginary" stories.
    Transferring that from its comics roots into an almost-DCAU movie seems appropriate; since they weren't able to place it as a bridge between JL and JLU as planned.

    For me, Crisis on Two Earths is canon, but not continuity. So, in other words, it takes place in an alternate universe like Justice Lords or Justice Guild. However, I would also say that a version of the events of the film did happen in continuity as well. So while the film itself isn't continuity because of two many details being different, something very much the events in it did happen in continuity.

      Hello good day
      I have a question
      The animated films Justice League : Doom and Justice League : Crisis on Two Earths
      Happen in the universe of Young Justice ie are they canon for young justice ? That's all greetings and sorry for my english is not my first language
      Greg responds...
      No.
      Here's a list of the complete YJ Canon:
      YOUNG JUSTICE (Season One) - 26 episodes (101-126)
      YOUNG JUSTICE : INVASION (Season Two ) - 20 episodes (201-220)
      YOUNG JUSTICE LEGACY video game - including Red Arrow's journal
      YOUNG JUSTICE compantion comic book series - 27 issues (0-25 plus a free comic book day story)
      --All of those issues (except for the free comic book day issue) have been collected in four trade paperbacks:
      --* YOUNG JUSTICE , VOLUME ONE (collects 0-6)
      --* YOUNG JUSTICE , VOLUME TWO : TRAINING DAY (collects 7-13)
      --* YOUNG JUSTICE , VOLUME THREE: CREATURE FEATURES (collects 14-19)
      --* YOUNG JUSTICE , VOLUME FOUR: INVASION (collects 20-25)
      That's it. Period. Nothing else is canon to our series until Season Three (i.e. YOUNG JUSTICE : OUTSIDERS) hits the air (or until we get more comics).
      So unfortunately no.

  • @RandomJayne
    @RandomJayne Год назад +4

    I think the writers of Young Justice once said that the Green Lantern show as "canon adjacent" to their show in the sense that while they were originally created as separate properties the YJ crew liked the GL show and wanted to continue plot threads that had been left hanging so they just decided that even if they take place in different universes the events of the GL show more or less happened in YJ as well. Kinda like how the Justice Lords universe is almost identical to the main Timmverse up to a certain point before Lex became president and murdered the Flash. For Crisis on Two Earths I just assume that everything that happened in that movie also happened in broad strokes within the Timmverse. In the Timmverse John Stewart and Wally West took the place of Hal Jordan and Barry Allen, Aquaman had a hook hand, and the other heroes Batman summoned were different people, but Wonder Woman still obtained her jet from this adventure. The main Lex was out and about instead of in prison and people had different reactions to the mirror universe Lex's arrival, but Batman still tricked the mirror Flash into aging himself to death because he couldn't bear to let his Flash go through with it after seeing what he became in the universe where Flash died.

    I would simply leave it at if it were canon, it would be reaaaaally redundant to have both this movie and the Justice Lords in the same continuity. People would have just spent all their time calling it out if it came out back when it was originally intended as it would have been a lot less time between the two. That extra time gap really helped distance it from direct comparison and let it stand on it's own.

    I feel Crisis on Two Earths is as cannon as Batman: Arkham Asylum (that would be a cool Will It Cannon? episode). It ties more into Justice League: Doom (and maybe some other movies). But like you said, if you squint, you could see how it fits. I think it's personally more fun to do with Arkham Asylum, though, only because it has a lot of the same cast. I suppose this has a lot of the same cast too, but... I like Arkham Asylum more. Also, best Arkham game; it never gets old, and it's always super satisfying from start to finish (in my opinion) (sorry for all the parenthesis).

  • @Christopherianmatt
    @Christopherianmatt 5 месяцев назад

    I look it at this the same way I look at the Schumacher Batman films, which were very clearly produced as sequels and came out at time when parallel universes wasn't so familiar to us, but now I see them as being in a separate universe where things are mildly different, *but predicated on two Schumacherverse films that we didn't see but share the main plot points with the first two films of the Burtonverse. Similarly, Batman the Animated Series was intended to follow up on the Burtonverse, but it just would not be practical or enjoyable for the series to keep Joker and Penguin dead, so you have to imagine some of these events happening in a bunch of different universes with subtle differences. Harvey Dent had a very different personality, but he still became the Two Face. This manner of looking at things makes the question of canonicity obsolete (though it can still be fun to talk about and speculate), as the timelines are occurring in their respective universes, and it only corrects the inappropriate assumption we tend to make that nothing can be thought to have existed or occurred if we did not explicitly see it on screen. In reality, each of us humans is in our own universe in our minds, as all the events play out through the filters of our values, biases and perspectives and are recalled through an imperfect and often actually false memory. So when someone delivers a piece of exposition, take it with a grain of salt rather than as gospel, because all you really know is they said it, not that they are a reliable witness, or that they have their facts straight or that they are honest.
