  • Hi,
Check out our Reckless Bass cover of You Saved Me, by The Reckless Empire.
Billy Sheehan has been one of my core inspirations since I heard him play on David Lee Roth's Eat Em and Smile album.
While always keeping to the core of the song, Billy has managed to bring much of the flare of lead guitar playing to articulate many of his bass lines.
Through many of his interviews, bass clinics, and instructional videos, I have picked up a number of key techniques such as:
keeping the length of the strap set so that playing standing is similar to playing sitting
the use of compression for the bass
locking in with a live drummer is crucial to making the song groove
While the extended left hand tapping in You Saved Me is different to other, two handed, tapping techniques, tapping and harmonic adagios are used a lot in my playing, thanks to Billy, as can be heard on Wish You Ill from our V album.
Check out The Winery Dogs self titled first album to hear Billy play the original version:

Nice job man. I've got the seafoam but shell shocked by the price of the new baby blue attitude III. What would be a good price do you think?

      Thanks Eric.
They're great basses and considering the quality, I don't think they're that unreasonably priced. I wish all gear was cheaper! But in line with other basses I think it's still value for money.
