I was born in Ærøskøbing and rode that ferry a number of times when going back to visit family in the 70s and 80s - in those days the Great Belt bridges hadn't been built so going from America to Ærøskøbing involved flying to Copenhagen, taking a DSB train to Korsør, taking the big ferry to Nyborg, taking a bus to Svendborg, and finally taking the Ærøsund to the island, which was always my favorite part of the trip. Sad to see it go but happy it found a useful life after service.

At 2:11 it reminds me of that one scene from Titanic where Captain Smith is in the wheel house and then the windows break and the room starts rapidly filling with water.

Call me a sentimental ol' sod, but I kind of feel sorry for that vessel. She was in service for almost 40 years (1960-1999), sailing between Svendborg and Ærøskøbing. Imagine how many generations have sailed with her . . . 😲😐😢

Reason is that most Ships are scuttled by blowing up the Seachest (cooling Water Intake) in the Engine Room which usually is located at the Stern of a Ship.
Don't ships sink mostly from the bow like look up the Britannic Titanic Olympic they always think from the bow no ship has sank from the stern idiot

Blew up the Seachest and the Engine Rooms are flooding. No Ship can survive a flooded Engine Room, except for large Warships like Destroyers or Aircraft Carriers which are designed with extensive Damage Control in Mind. I remember the Story of a Cargo Ship sinking because they wanted to Clean the Seawater Filters without confirming that the Seachest Valves are shut. Caused a massive Water Ingress and-believe it or not-the Ship sank over the Stern where the Engine Room is located. I'll need a couple of Minutes to search the Pictures of you don't believe me.

She was a great cruise ship! My wife and I did a Caribbean cruise on her about 1981 with 600 other guests. Good memories. Best cruise ever!

I was there in a blue motor boat named Samos and my camera didnt wanna turn on right when it sank and even though its slow in the vid it sank rlly fast so i got some shacky pictures but nothing good and that was kind of sad

Ummm, why is it being scuttled in a high traffic bay area... seems like the worst place to scuttle a ship? Maybe take it out to deep waters?
It was scuttled as a recreational dive site, probably doubling as an artificial reef. And most of that traffic was probably boats there specifically to watch the scuttling.
@@Dracule0117 Good point. I actually had that exact thought come to mind as a second-guess but decided to just leave the comment up. I'm so used to scuttlings happening in deep water, and close-to-shore dive sites being shipwrecks.

What was this ship?
Probably a ferry.
It was a danish ferry, that was in service from 1960 to 1999... After that, it was docked for 16 years, before being sunk as an artificial reef.
