It was tough to watch. Tug Engineer 38 yrs. I worked tug Celtic for two yr's. A year after I got off, it went down in a storm in Long Island Sound, off South Norwalk in 80 ft. of water and took the whole crew with it/ Cap. Charles Markey, Mate Donal Magowen, Chief Norman Parish, Deckhand Paul Chartrand, and a new man didn't know.
Too late I already sank a tug in my bathtub, which made the drain hole a little bigger, nothing a larger plug won't cure. PS I get a sinking feeling when recycling could be an option.
@@TimDaOne The video includes footage from those same cameras. Usually tugboats are sunk like this to create reefs for fish, in shallow enough waters for diving.
The tugboat seems a bit old, it looks deserted and it's abandoned. No other co-workers ever try to tow it away so they can try to repainted and remodeled it one.
In cases where vessels are sunk to create marine habitat, it is determined the resulting benefits (including environmental and recreational) outweigh the potential reuse value of the ship frame as repurposed metal for future manufacturing.

special camera mounts were designed and welded to the vessel in various locations with the intention of making it simple to remove them via scuba divers.
I know a dude who did this in Florida I think. he's from Minnesota. Hans is his name. He showed me a scrap book from the company he used to run. had to declare bankruptcy unfortunately around 2008.
Haha no they were recovered after the sinking by divers. Otherwise we would not have been able to recover the sink cam footage shown in the video. We welded custom mounting platforms to the hull in various locations to mount the cameras. Part of the design considerations was to make it simple for divers to recover the cameras.
@@uwjax How deep is it? Have you checked these what's living in it now? Should have put some rocks in it for natural cover for the sea life. Just my opinion. What do I know. That feels like a bad omen. Watching any ship sink.
Thanks for the reminder, I won’t sink my tugboat at home now!
You can’t because your house is not water 😂

Went down so fast that nobody could get off?
Did it go down fast or slow and did it have lifeboats?🤨

So sad Bro.
Sounds bad but this is so much more gratifying to watch than a planned sinking. Thanks for posting. 👍🏻
“Do not try this at home”
Like i have a whole entire ocean in my home
Worked perfectly fine for me. I have a sink
@oneandzero6251 you have to buy a model ship then.
Who doesn’t? My ocean is super clean, because I have been preparing to sink a Titanic replica in it.
Nah like you would have an entire tug boat lmao
thanks for clarifying to not try this at home, my mum would be pissed if i destroyed the bathtub...
Definitely trying this at home.
Cant wait to for the summer to put my kids in basement on that tugboat
My God that is really cool! I’m really interested in shipwrecks since I watched the Titanic movie. I’m gonna make a little experiment of that lol.
I have an ocean at my home. Definitely gonna try this
Imagine doing this on land...
Yea..
Good question o guess…
You cant
Island: Noooooo!
Quick sand will do itt
Instructions unclear. There is now a half-buried tugboat in my backyard.
Great job Joe! Looks like you’ve been busy!
Thanks Brooks. Hope to fill you in on the entire project soon.
How big is that ⛴? In Length, Beam and Depth? If you don't know, I'll understand. Please and Thank you.
The plant inside the funnel makes it hilarious to watch
lol

The vessel was recycled to create marine habitat and an underwater destination.
I'm glad ye olde tug went to a good cause.👴
"Don't try this at home" do you think I can sink a ship at home?
I mean you can sink a toy boat
Crazy guys. Lol
😅
If you do this again could you show the interior flodding ? That sort of thing interests a lot of people
I'm pretty sure buying a tug boat costs alot.
Probably didn't want to dive all the way down into the tugboat and risk damaging equipment or themselves to retreive the cameras.
@@TimDaOne The video includes footage from those same cameras. Usually tugboats are sunk like this to create reefs for fish, in shallow enough waters for diving.
@@daveahlers Yes, but they didn't go inside. Having your scuba gear ripped open by a piece of metal is not cool
I know right? If I wanted to watch a ship sink from the outside I could buy a model and sink it.
very nice👍

@@nyotamwuaji6484 Oh sorry never mind it is grass growing in the smokestack
Great video! Though, a shame they didn't put GoPros deeper into the ship, in the corridors and engine room. That would've been even more interesting.
Thanks. We wanted the cameras to be as safely accessible to divers as possible wanted to avoid underwater diver penetrations into the vessel.
That was epic dude
was a fantastic project to be a part of
Ah yes, I will remember to not sink my personal tugboat
Rest In Peace and God bless you, Jimmy Dales
Sorry to see her go. I bet the stories she takes with her were good one's.
Wait so I can get my little boat and sink it?
Is it common to sink ships because recycling them would be too expensive and not worth it?
