- It is harder then one might think when trying to sink a ship intentionally. Vessels are engineered to float and will fight to do so. It took over two years to prepare this tugboat for sinking and she fought to stay afloat up to the very last minute.
In this case we purposefully scuttled two vessels to create marine habitat and a new fishing and scuba diving location accessible when visiting Jacksonville Florida. The vessels were rigorously cleaned to an environmentally sound condition and sunk at a permitted artificial reef zone offshore the coast. Both this tugboat, and the other vessel scuttled, landed upright on the sea floor 90 feet below.
All sorts of fish and marine we make these newly sunken ships their home in a short period of time. Make sure to visit the Jacksonville Florida region to experience these offshore destinations first hand.

It was tough to watch. Tug Engineer 38 yrs. I worked tug Celtic for two yr's. A year after I got off, it went down in a storm in Long Island Sound, off South Norwalk in 80 ft. of water and took the whole crew with it/ Cap. Charles Markey, Mate Donal Magowen, Chief Norman Parish, Deckhand Paul Chartrand, and a new man didn't know.

Thanks. We wanted the cameras to be as safely accessible to divers as possible wanted to avoid underwater diver penetrations into the vessel.

The tugboat seems a bit old, it looks deserted and it's abandoned. No other co-workers ever try to tow it away so they can try to repainted and remodeled it one.

I'm pretty sure buying a tug boat costs alot.
Probably didn't want to dive all the way down into the tugboat and risk damaging equipment or themselves to retreive the cameras.
@@TimDaOne The video includes footage from those same cameras. Usually tugboats are sunk like this to create reefs for fish, in shallow enough waters for diving.

I know a dude who did this in Florida I think. he's from Minnesota. Hans is his name. He showed me a scrap book from the company he used to run. had to declare bankruptcy unfortunately around 2008.

Too late I already sank a tug in my bathtub, which made the drain hole a little bigger, nothing a larger plug won't cure. PS I get a sinking feeling when recycling could be an option.

Haha no they were recovered after the sinking by divers. Otherwise we would not have been able to recover the sink cam footage shown in the video. We welded custom mounting platforms to the hull in various locations to mount the cameras. Part of the design considerations was to make it simple for divers to recover the cameras.
@@uwjax How deep is it? Have you checked these what's living in it now? Should have put some rocks in it for natural cover for the sea life. Just my opinion. What do I know. That feels like a bad omen. Watching any ship sink.

special camera mounts were designed and welded to the vessel in various locations with the intention of making it simple to remove them via scuba divers.
They should have given this one to Seattle and taken the one that recently went down.😊
