You are right PC-21 is one of the best looking modern prop planes. I like your very thorough review. I fly mine with head-tracking FPV from the cockpit. It's a blast to fly and the greaser landings/ wheelies are super satisfying.
Awesome!
As soon as I seen this plane for the first time, I knew I was destined to have one, I flew it and I was instantly in love. I was already a fan of the PC-21 and once I seen that fms made a model of it, I was pretty happy.
Do it ;)

@@BrianPhillipsRC Way ahead of ya... lol
Dang that’s a beautiful plane 🤔
Thanks for what you do. I learned something new about throttling out of flaps
Glad we could help!
Brian, always fun to watch you fly. Thanks for showcasing all these different planes, it helps me to pick the ones to add to my list! even though I'm only going to buy one, ha ha
You're very welcome Craig! We're glad you enjoy watching the comparisons. We try to give a somewhat similar scenario to make it as easy as possible for people to put these planes head to head... Most don't need the full unbox, build, radio setup,...so doing these Second Thoughts videos give us a chance to show how much better these planes CAN perform just with a little more practice. Maiden flights are usually the WORST flight in a planes life, other than it's "last" - LOL ;)
Just received one as a gift. Upgraded it with an Avian 45A ESC and LEDs. Going to try you gains 40 50 45. Hopefully this weekend.
Hey Brian and Camera Crew. Thank you so much for your RC videos. Love the full coverage of the unbox, build and fly plus honest opinion. I bought this plane because I love the way it looks but also because of your video. And today I was so happy to see this second thought video. I do have one issue and that is the programming/setup of the reflex v2. I have a DX6e and bypassed the reflex v2 completely and I am flying it without that. It is not as smooth without it especially in windy conditions. If you could give me some direction to get that setup I would appreciate it greatly. Once again, thanks for your awesome videos. And please don't change the way you do it. It helps a lot to make a decision on buying a plane. Btw I am getting a Turbo Timber 1.5m soon.
So glad to have you with us Joske. I have no idea about the reflex v2 system, so I can't help you on that at all, sorry!
Here's what I can do, if you want to explore this option...
This is what I recommend for receiver in this plane -
AR631 bit.ly/3pYNC3c (more economical option for stabilizer)
OR
AR637T bit.ly/3pW3u86 (more expensive option for stabilizer with slightly improved telemetry)
...and then you can follow my exact RADIO SETUP, with the exception that you're running a true 6 channel transmitter...so you'll have a hard time controlling the gains or ON/OFF of the AS3X in flight. You'll have to make adjustments on the ground, then switch back your controls for the flaps or gear when you're done.
@@BrianPhillipsRC thank you so much for responding.
So I managed to get the standard Reflex V2 connected and working. Still have to fly it with the Reflex V2 installed, first needs to fit the suspension as I damaged the standard landing gear.
By the way, if you don't mind me asking, what camera is your camera crew using to film your flights? I would like to start taking some videos of my friends flying as well.
nice landing!! cam view Good
Thanks a lot!
What a smooth flying plane
Totally agree! She's GREAT!
Good looking plane!!! Nice.
Thanks a lot! I love this plane!!!
I go 18mm take off flaps with 1.5mm down elevator mix, 30mm landing flaps 3mm down elevator mix , no balooning. I go gear down, take off flaps. landing flaps, power 15 to 20 % nose level or slightly down, cut power as I touch down but not until then. I fly off grass no problem ( well rolled and cut ) I also have oleo on nose wheel. No gyro. If you want more power use fms 3648 870kv motor 850watt 58 amp 80amp esc. Original motor FMS 3541 750kv motor 40amp max 500 watt max. Consider an adapter for the Xt60 as the pin/hole diameters differ from other connectors and although they might seem to fit there may be a risk of spark/short if you dont use an adapter which means you risk blackened connectors after a while and a poor/lost connection.
AWESOME! I had someone saying that grass was not an option for this and in OUR yard, it probably would be emergency landing only...but like you said, rolled and tamped grass...would be great! I need to grow some super nice grass out in front of the runway, so I can keep it like a golf green ;) That would be AWESOME!!!
@@BrianPhillipsRC maybe you could hire a roller for a couple of hours and create a strip at the side of that long drive
Hey Brian, love your channel and have learned a ton as I learn to fly on my UMX Turbo Timber. Looking for something that can handle the grass better. Do you plan to do a video on the FMS PA-18 Super Cub? Would love to hear your thoughts between all the different big-tire bush plane options out there. So many options.
It's not on my short list...but I've asked about it. I think HH would rather point you toward this...and I would probably have to agree ;)
Carbon Z Cub SS 2.1m bit.ly/30P5mUA
wow, ya 100k subs, thats quite a milestone there. way to go you two. the silver button will be well deserved. cheers yall.
So close & Thanks!!!
Actually the P&W engine is extremely light it is smaller than an oil drum with the gearbox fitted, this is why generally turboprop aircraft have long noses, the fms bird has a shorter nose than it should be or is on the full size but they just got a magic balance on the PC-21 it is as close as Pilatus has come to perfection after the PC-12. Fun fact, I work on bespoke PC-12's and Pilatus are extremely fussy and adamant about keeping the flap and aileron wells white - in that regard FMS got it really scale I think by accident
"...I think by accident" - LOL Love this plane!
You get battery telemetry on a AR631, just put it in the Corsair with an Avian 80amp, I get read outs on both batteries on all eight cells.
You don't get Telemetry with the AR631, you get pack telemetry from the Avian ESC, and it passes it through the AR631 ;)
Loved the heli video and the modesty about your flying skills! You make RC plane flying look very easy and clearly have lot of skills! Amazing to think that heli flying is a different discipline altogether.
Thanks Jon! My limits are super evident on helis - with some experience, I've learned better to respect your limits, then crash a beauty like the E180 we did the other day. Flying Heli's is the hardest type of aircraft I've flown. Quads are so much easier, with such sophisticated flight controllers, but that E180 still makes me nervous. With a plane, you can glide, and basically know what's going to happen in 3/10 of a second...with a heli, if you start to drift, you better get it right ;) Without a flight controller, that tail would point be pointing STRAIGHT at me the whole time!!! LOL
Thanks for stopping by Jon!
Wow Brian I just realized you’re almost to 100K subscribers I can’t believe congrats bud been watching almost every video I believe from the ASK-21 UMX up to present keep up the great work!!!
Thanks Seth! You're been around almost since the beginning!!! Awesome, and thanks for being here with us. 100K is being illusive...we had a unexplainable bump last month but the RUclips "gods" have decided to withhold their hand of blessing all of a sudden... I guess they think I should have been reviewing the Draco - LOL - LOL - LOL!!! JK.
We'll be there hopefully early to MID April, if our current growth continues ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC your welcome and I’ll be here every min even if it is a couple hrs long lol!!! You and camera crew just keep up the great work! And yes the Draco stop teasing lol love all the lights that it has it’s amazing enough said!!! But have a goodnight you and yours and be well. And PS thanks for responding to the comments that is what makes you one of the greatest because you build with your viewers.
Got my PC-21 today and its ready to go...they put the battery straps way to far back, first time setting up forward programming with the NX6, its fairly straight forward but a little tricky to figure out how to set the gyro gains on each flight mode, there all on fixed for each axis..it would not work on adjustable..i suppose thats for an adjustable knob like on a 8 channel rx. Its a really nice plane im looking forward to flying it soon.
You can still use a three position switch for ON FULL, HALF, and OFF...if it's just too much - works like a charm! I LOVE THIS PLANE. It is SOOOOO good!!!! I want a Carbon Z PC-21 like yesterday!!!!!!
@@BrianPhillipsRC greatly appreciate that info thanks Brian...A carbon Z would be amazing for sure!
@@BrianPhillipsRC Their sold out now.. I bet Horizon just loves you for all the reviews and sales!
I noticed that you also had to move the battery forward of the tray to establish a good CG. So did I! In fact I think mine is even further forward than yours. I added another strap forward through the foam body. The FMS landing gear sucks however, especially the nose gear!
This plane is amazing!!! I'm glad you got your CG sorted out. It's easy to just say "Good enough" when you've got straps all the way forward, like this and other planes, but what a GREAT flying plane. I guess I'd have to take fault with your comments on the gear sucking though, since I've seen way worse. I guess, they could be better too
Did the maiden on mine flew fantastic love it. But one of my main landing gears took a 💩. But i have repaired it already, took the bad one apart amd there is a tiny little DC motor inside that was shorted out.
That's a HUGE bummer! How bad was the damage from dragging?
@@BrianPhillipsRC oh it didnt drag it came out but wouldnt retract when i went to put the plane up in my hanger. All 👍😁
I just bought one! It was a tough choice between a flightline warbird like an FW-190 or an eflite p-51 but im happy I chose this one. I also got an AR630 rx to run forward programming with my NX6. I dont like seeing you crash but I think you push your luck sometimes and thats how it really is in this hobby. I have close calls everytime I fly but I always learn something from it. Glad you reviewed this one I was waiting to see this one on your channel. Thanks!
Yep, close calls make for fun flying, if you ask me ;) Totally agreed - just gotta learn from it when the close calls turn in to consequences of pushed limits.
You referred to the T-28, which I've been flying.... Until the wing came off mid flight. So shopping for my next go to flyer, if I can handle the Trojan this is a good next step?
Thanks in advance
This plane is a GREAT option and you'll be adding Flaps and Retracts....flies on RAILS!!! I LOVE THIS PLANE!
Hey Brian, it must film slow. Watching the video it just looks slow. It could be that it fly's so smooth it looks slow. I love the looks of it!
That might be the optics of it, but it feels faster in person??? I don't think it's slow, but just hear from anther guy, the same thing???
I LOVE IT!
Great Job, Great Plane, Nice transmitter, you need a new neck strip 😂........⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The lanyard works fine ;) OR are you saying for the lav mic?
What I meant it’s a DX18 and you using a NX6 😂
On a 5 blade prop, the 3rd 4th, and 5th blades are hitting dirty air. Don't know if you've ever heard a real turbo prop plane but there is a similar effect but very amplified. Great lookin bird..
They do have an interesting sound!
Dirty air or not that five blade prop makes it haul butt!
hello Brian,
you make with your wife very good video!! thanks for your great joob!!!.
I have order allredy one pc21 from fms for me and want use speltrum ar637t reciver with avian 45amp ESC.
Do you have program as3x on your reciver ar631 for this plane?? if yes then can you share your gain setup and values???
I do on our Unbox, Build, Radio Setup video on this plane...so you can follow it on that one ;) It's in the playlist for this plane.
You and Wifey pulled off another great video. A flying buddy at the field just got one of these. He loves it. How would you compare this to the RV-7 with the same wingspan.
RV7 is INSANE powerful, and to be honest, this PC-21 is probably more cool, but both are GOOD planes.
bprc.me/RV7

Brian do you do any prop balancing ? Love all your videos learn much from them you are the best. Keep um coming. Can't wait for the Draco !
Only occasionally. I kinda need to balance this one, but I just wanted to fly it so bad!!!
Draco is here and ready for our review, but we can't publish anything for a few more weeks...Thank you for your patience. This is not our call.
I think I need to get this one. I’m in love with the shape. In 60 short days I have gone from knowing nothing about this hobby to owning and flying the turbo timber umx, then the T28 and anxiously waiting for my valiant to arrive. How long until it acceptable to buy another? Lol
I understand your plight. I've been in your shoes. I was OBSESSED at first. I'd get up and look outside, and LOOOONG to get home to fly!!! Calm days at the office were like pulling out fingernails!
The good news, you will keep loving it in a few years, but the bad news, you'll run out of room in the basement, or garage, and then soon you'll have to "retire" planes from time to time. Also, you'll look through the hangar, and "Feel Bad" for not sharing the love with all the planes - LOL - but seriously...write this down and check it in 5 years.
@@BrianPhillipsRC LOL. That seems about right. Thanks for putting together all this wonderful content. And i want you to know one thing from the bottom of my heart..... ITS ALL YOUR FAULT! LOL!
HI Bryan, I have this plane ( with engine glow ). I like it ! After 3 crash ( and repair of course ), I can still fly with it. Awesome ! when you landind on the video, you have the wind in back ??? Hi from France
Hi there! GAS?!??! That's cool! I land into the wind, but sometimes the wind is changing while we're filming, so I go the wrong way - LOL!
hi Brian, vry nice fly on the pc-21 👍👍👍..the batt 3200mah what is the "c" rating for the batt?
I believe it was a 30C
very nice flyer, but it eludes me, like most jets, cause we don’t have a good runway around here. And always windy. So park flyers with big tires! Waiting for DRACO! when do you think you will have it?? I know you will love it!!!!
I have the Draco NOW...but we can't review it.
ive noticed how down angled the nose is on that plane as are alot of the T-28s on the market just make them appear more scale but this is not a practical idea when your tryiing to fly from grass runways so i always bump up the nose wheel 2 sizes to keep from breaking propellers especially expensive 5 bladed ones!
That's one way to accomplish this. You could also use a dolly, like for sail planes?
I do Ike that plane. Would be great for scale fpv also.
Yeah, the canopy is pretty clear too!
Brian you deserve this you and the (camera crew) work hard!!!! Thanks UMX GURU!!!
Thanks Tefanie! We really appreciate your kind words!!!
Have you decided on that location for your new building... I mean airplane hanger?
Not 100%, but we have one of our builder options coming on Saturday. I want to show him my idea, but it's gonna be a lot of dirt work, and everyone seems to think it's crazy...but WE have to protect our airspace!!! ;)
I had the old hobby lobby version of this... been meaning to get this one too!! Good stuff!!
This plane is so fun to fly. I love it in so many ways.
Nice plane brother I think I am going to get it for my wife
It's a great plane for sure. Very good flying...reminds me of the T-28 1.1m...only with flaps and retracts ;)
That might not be as good a swap as you think !!!!!!
Crazy flight times. And so smooth. Clearly operator expertise 😄.
I think this plane makes me look good...it's easy to fly!
Why are the hay bails doen at the end of the driveway?
We had a guy buy some hay, so we wanted it moved while it was dry. When he arrived, we rolled them down to his trailer and didn't have to tear up the yard with the tractor.
Flying the Pilatus for ten minutes is like doing pilates for your finger muscles. Fun plane and looks great! Also, I picked up the NX10 and it's really nice. I love the Function button on the NX series for quickly getting to things like DR/Expo, Timer, Telemetry, etc. The NX10 is also super nice for setting the gains while flying by using the sliders. I did use your link when I purchased that transmitter, too. ;)
Nice!!! I finally started using the NX8 - loving it too!!!
I have had this plane for over a year now and have yet to fly it still.
Get her out! She's AMAZING!

Did you add any weight to the nose to balance it?
No. I only balance with batteries, except in unusual circumstances.
How does this compare to the T28 Trojan 1.1 m?
It is very good! The T-28 1.1m is better for a beginner, since it's super simple...the PC-21 flies so good, BUT added benefit of Flaps and Retracts.
I love those close quarter fly byes 🤭

@@BrianPhillipsRC :o What? Why are you not allowed to review it yet? That stinks of something..
Your reviews are always among the very best, you should have been one of the first!
Nice plane fly it slow to get used to it and faster as you get better. Sure a lot of prop blades.
Yep
Do you have any tips on flying RC planes in general? Pretty sure you’ve been in this hobby longer than I’ve been alive so I think it’d be neat
I share tips all the time in my videos, so not sure exactly what direction you're going with your question. If you can ask more specifically, I can try to help you out.
@@BrianPhillipsRC hmm, how about any tips about flying EDF’s? I’m trying to learn to fly my first real EDF and I’m nervous about it. So basically how do I keep a EDF in the air stable?
@@CrocaDucks get realflite 9.5 and build some confidence. I use to fly back in the 80s and am reentering the hobby and I've been practicing on the sim quite a bit. My weakness is getting confused when the plane comes at you, but I'm improving.
It's a beauty but it also looks a little bit weird with the nose pointing down on the run way.
I love the way it looks. I think it looks pretty scale ;)
That's a beautiful plane sir ,I'm a newby so to much of a hotrod for me ,maybe one day lol ,you and your honey are awesome ,thanks for all you guys do I've learned so much from you .hope to be buying a t 28 soon and I'll buy it from one of your links .thnx again .

Just picked up a Night Timber X and some G2 2200 mah 4S 50C batts. Next two on the list are Extra 300 and Ultimate 3D. Prolly gotta spread out the buying to at most 1 plane per month for the wifey 😂.
Awesome! We really appreciate you doing that!!! It helps a lot Ryker RC!!!
I got this one a month ago and I absolutely LOVE it! My landing on the maiden flight was probably one of my best ever so I was super happy. Also this one is close to my heart as I‘m Swiss, therefore please don’t paint the crosses red :)
Awesome! Glad you love is as much as I do!!! I probably won't paint it, but I want the bottom to be more high contrast.
I don't want the iX12 or iX20 due to the android cell phone in it, I currently have the DX18QQ and in hope Spektrum comes out with a NX18 ! lol
I love my DX18, but have been getting real used to the NX6 and we just filmed our initial thoughts and setup of the NX8 - so far, so good!

@@BrianPhillipsRC you should get the approval for the review shortly there's already some reviews on YT of it and HH Introducing videos is out also. Can't wait for your take on this plane.
How big would you say that space you fly in?? 😊
I bet you keep getting questions about the Draco hey guys 😄😄
We're flying on the front part of our 10+ acres, and we fly out over the neighbors 40+ Acres. The area in front of the house is about 1.5-2 acres or so. The trees on the "left and right" (At either end of the driveway) are about 600 feet apart. Our lot starts PAST the Left treeline, and ends right into the edge of the Right treeline...then it narrows to about 350 feet wide back 4/5 of the way into the SECOND tree line, at the midway point of the named creek...the one you see wrapping around the house, is just drainage ditches that feed the real, named creek in the back.

How beginner friendly is this?
It wouldn't be bad in your beginner LINEUP, maybe plane number 3 or 4, if you do it the way we set it up, with the receiver we used. It's pretty fast, but with flaps and retracts, it is a great value and can me made to slow way down. I feel like it's so similar to the T-28 1.1m ( bit.ly/3eOh9Lk ) but the T-28 1.1m might be a better choice as a "beginner", since it's...
1) BNF - easier to setup
2) No retracts - simpler to fly
3) Doesn't have OR need flaps - simpler to fly, and slower without the need of flaps
All three reasons are also reasons you WOULD buy the PC-12 ( PC-21 1.1m bit.ly/3bCrHKg + AR631 bit.ly/3pYNC3c )
Hello friends
Hi there!
*buy a house with a runway.... Why didn't I think of that?
Correction - I built this house and the runway ;) - if you find one, buy it, for sure, but there's only so many addicted like me ;)
Brian is it easy to fly
It's not bad, but I'd say probably not a first plane.
@@BrianPhillipsRC thanks I have a carbon cub s2 its good fun but I am trying to improve do u have any tips thanks
Brian, you know you overshot that runway on purpose just to sell Megan on extending it....slick. lol. Big fan of you guys. Thanks.

Ohhh-Yeahhh! Nice Plane! FMS Came Out w/A New Banana Yellow Hot Dogger That L@@Ks A Bunch Like This One!? Seen On Slovack Bros Channel This Morning...Thanks
Nice!
I love the PC-21 but it´s far from being fast and the gear is too weak for permanent grass operations. A V2 with stronger motor and better gears would be great!
upgrade to 65amp ESC and run 5S batteries on stock prop and motor. I clocked it at 86mph on a flat pass. Served as a great way to get used to the speed of an EDF with the forgiveness of a prop that flies so well. Also agree with grass ops, especially with the gear doors (which will quickly rip off on grass).
@@bucky32555 Thanks, but 86 mph are far away from being what I call fast. :P
I think this plane would be a bit small for grass ops ;) Speed is in the eye of the beholder.
@@BrianPhillipsRC I had it and I operated it from grass (short cut); worked fine as the weight and so the load on the retracts was low, as well as take off.

ehhh
Wing to low, plane to fast. Not for me but can appreciate others being into it.
It's a great flying plane, and it's less hard to fly that you might expect ;)
