    Rich, very thorough review as always. Love this PC-21. Excellent tip on the elevator servo horn linkage. I do that on all my control surfaces for precise throw, and lessen load on servos.Can you confirm unlimited vertical on this one? Certainly look like it from the pull up from slow pass.

    • @RCINFORMER
      @RCINFORMER  8 лет назад +1

      Almost... the 5 blade prop has a lot of traction and it pulls well going straight up.... It would have kept going up, but i had to pull the power to get it to come down:)

    Rich,
    Awesome flight inspite of the wind. Nico did a respectable job following your flight. Any more planes in the hanger for us to see? :-)

    Hi Rich, loving the new age aircraft by FMS! I had the old E-scale version which is the same size but was ALWAYS plagued by crappy mechanical retracts and massive prop torque roll. Does this aircraft have issues with torque roll??? It's intact how I lost my model. Rolled inverted I take off and it lifted off hard to the left and smashed on a high roof. Never saw it ever again.

    • @motionsic
      @motionsic 8 лет назад

      This one is much bigger than Escale (Escale length 44", span 36"; FMS length 48.5" span 44"). FMS wing has been lengthened to mitigate effect of torque roll. Rotate gradually after sufficient speed on take off and you will do fine.

    Nice flying. Kind of a tight airfield and wind doesn't help. I just ordered this Pilatus and then lost my favorite plane to an ESC failure the next day. Didn't crash, but plane went up in flames after landing. Heard LiPo blow off a minute after fire started, so it had to be ESC not battery that started fire. I ordered a Castle BEC to handle Rx power when I ordered the Pilatus. Any issues with that 40 ESC heating up? Should I swap it for something a little beefier? Crashing is never good, but losing a $600 plane, $200 bat, $30 wheels to fire means no salvage, no repair/rebuild. I'd far rather spend a little more on ESC than risk another total loss like that.

    • @RCINFORMER
      @RCINFORMER  7 лет назад +1

      Chris Davis Very good thinking! I did the same thing! I threw in a 60amp FMS ESC I had laying around & I made the recommendation directly to the factory to use at least a 50amp. They advised me that the 40amp is really a 50amp, but I put in the 60 because I was going to be flying this plane hard:)

    • @ChrisDavis-eq9lj
      @ChrisDavis-eq9lj 7 лет назад +1

      I have a spare EFlite 60 here that I think I'll put in the Pilatus.

    Did you CG at the factory recommended 90mm?

  • @DoofusRacing
    @DoofusRacing 6 лет назад

    Do you think this will work well off of grass? The wheels are small and like a jet, it has a slight nose down AoA on the ground which proves to be an issue off grass strips.

  • @MegaALO10
    @MegaALO10 7 лет назад +3

    Hi nice video I just bought this plane but I think that for the motor propeller and battery the 40 amp esc is in the limit what do you think about it?

    • @RCINFORMER
      @RCINFORMER  7 лет назад +1

      I preferred a larger ESC, However the load should decrease in flight as the plane flys faster!

    • @sotm6078
      @sotm6078 5 лет назад

      With an amp meter it is within the ESC rating at full throttle

    Great flight and lovely model. I'd definitely be interested in a 1400mm version!

    • @motionsic
      @motionsic 8 лет назад

      This one is as long as the 1400mm Mustang. Good luck waiting for foam PC-21 with 1400mm wing span. Will need to be over 1700mm long and cost too much to produce.

    • @michaelcuthbert6956
      @michaelcuthbert6956 8 лет назад

      The Sebart 50E PC-21 built-up model has a wingspan of 1.5m and a length of 1.66m. Scaling that down to a 1.4m wingspan model will require a fuselage length of just over 1.5m. Some recent releases from the likes of E-flite (Carbon Z T28) and Freewing (Mig21 and F104 90mm) have fuselages that are longer than that and show what is possible. A larger model will also offer larger wheels that particularly in the case of this model will suit those who fly from grass strips. Perhaps you are right and the engineering and economics won't stack up, but no harm in asking!

    • @motionsic
      @motionsic 8 лет назад

      +Michael Cuthbert I actually have the Sebart model, great flyer but not true scale. Both wing cord and span has been widened to make it easier to fly, the FMS one also. I'd prefer true scale proportions on foam models. Given the relative obscurity of PC-21 and little operational history, foamie manufactures are not likely to risk a large investment on a bigger model. Unless of course if this one sells like hot cakes then their could be hope.....

    • @RCINFORMER
      @RCINFORMER  8 лет назад

      Yea, its really not a 1100mm model.... it is more like a 1200mm model. Proportionally most planes are shorter than their wingspan.... The PC-21 is the other way... the fuselage is longer than the length of the wing span... fuselage is 1235mm long

    • @michaelcuthbert6956
      @michaelcuthbert6956 8 лет назад

      Point taken. Rich, is this model capable of operating from a well mown grass strip, or is it really more suitable for tarmac?

    HI Rich,
    I haven't flown mine yet. I did have a question on the c/g.. It seems to be way off from where the battery is supposed to go based on the battery straps. To get the proper c/g I had to move the battery 4S way forward to comply with the c/g noted in the instruction manual.
    Where did you place your battery? Thanks,

    • @RCINFORMER
      @RCINFORMER  8 лет назад

      Yes, move it as far forward as you can while still using the two straps. I also added one ounce of nose weight just behind the spinner and it flys great... I will put out a video shortly showing this.

    Mine is very tail heavy as well. How did you mount the weight in the nose? I set an ounce in the fake air intake and it was still tail heavy.

    • @RCINFORMER
      @RCINFORMER  7 лет назад

      I removed the spinner and added the 1oz weight inside the fuselage, around the motor, just behind the spinner.... ADDITIONALLY, the position of the proper horn hole for the elevator push rod "Z" bend is extremely important... if it is in any hole other than the inner hole of the SERVO HORN, the pitch control will be very sensitive... the Elevator only needs to move a VERY small amount.

      Is what a FMS' 1400mm plane used to cost

    • @RCINFORMER
      @RCINFORMER  8 лет назад +2

      The planes used to be made cheaply, costs were lower and quality was not as good... The planes are NOW made of much higher quality/precision, much stronger & powerful, and with greater scale fidelity.... costs go up with quality

    I bought this model 2 weeks ago, the battery bay is not proper with the CG. the result is tail heavy and I crashed $280 bucks plane , so sad

    • @RCINFORMER
      @RCINFORMER  4 года назад

      SOrry to hear it:( I had indicated in the video that I added some nose weight & to move the elevator control horn to the inner most horn hole so that it is more controllable. it is at 1:20

    • @ryandconan
      @ryandconan 4 года назад

      @@RCINFORMER Yeah I just watched this video, and got that information :(
      This aircraft has a very long fuselage, especially the nose. The saddest thing is, I can't fit my 4s 3300 mah battery to the front of fuselage. Because the more forward, the space is gettin smaller and the battery cant fit inside. FMS should calculate this isn't?
      with a very long nose, the battery bay should moved forward to achieve a proper CG Setup.
      Technically, it flies. but a very tail heavy plane is hard to control. I tried to save the plane, but it way to fast!
      when approach, of course we need to slow down. but every time I decreased throtlle, it Stall!
      then when I increased throttle, the landing will not possible because it way too fast. Flap doesnt help at all, it makes worse.
      finally I just landed it anyway.
      and it stall, then flip over. I dont see too much damage on the landing gear, but the front nose is shrinked little bit. I thought it absord all of the energy and Im happy because the spar inside was strong enough agains the force. If this were a depron plane like flite test I think my plane would be turned into a pieces.
      and for elevator, I use expo 30%. that is the same way to do right?
      to limit the throw of control. could be done by setting up your expo or by using inner horn hole to limit the throw.
      Im sorry for this long story, but I just want to share my frustation.
      after some repair, she will be in the air soon!
      wish me luck.
