WOW! Hello all 1K+ of you who gave this a watch! Thanks a lot for watching, especially to those who subscribed, hope you'll stick around for even more fun videos about racing games I enjoy! Glad to see so many of you enjoyed the video, hope you've also given Victory Heat Rally a shot and enjoyed playing it!
Between this, Parking Garage Rally Circuit, New Star GP, Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom, Super Woden GPII, Aero GPX... Arcade driving fans have been eating GOOD in the past 12 months!
I got the demo a few months ago and I immediately knew I’d buy the game. Great video btw, it’s great for both people who haven’t played it and those that have. I didn’t know about the screen tilt options.
I pine for the candy colored vibes of 90’s Sega arcade racers but I was always terrible at them. This looks like it will be perfect for me. Mike has been following this game since day 1 and he has an incredible knowledge base when it comes to racers, so his word is good enough for me to pick this up.
Power Drift meets Choro Q, even the track has similar rollercoaster feel.Would benefit from additional theme park or historic site (like Easter Island) tracks on its future DLC.
Thanks a lot, glad the algorithm introduced me to you, I’ve got plenty of more games I want to cover, and hopefully some of them are ones you love as well!
If you haven’t played it yet and want more indie titles inspired by old school racing games, I’d highly recommend Parking Garage Rally Circuit. It’s an homage to Sega Saturn era rally games, where you (as the name implies) race around tracks built on parking garages around the world. It feels really authentic to the era it’s inspired by, and handles really well. Might even make a good subject for another video.
Any chance there's a CRT filter for the actual game? It feels like a waste to only use that in menus...looks really good, though! Can't wait to add it to my Switch collection some day! ^^
Looks lovely, and I'm happy it exists for those who want to play their driving games like a rhythm title. Myself, I wish indie developers would either make boost combos optional, or stop pretending it's a throwback to the 90's.
It seems there isn't, at least not at launch. The devs seem to be responding to some feedback on Steam and bringing up things they'd like to potentially update, so maybe that toggle is one of those.
Can't say that I'm into the audiovisuals of this type of game, also the game may be TOO arcadey. Personally I grew up with Re-Volt and NFS Hot Pursuit 2, so somewhere between and around those is my jam. Regardless, it seems very well-made, lots of passion for details and content. Shame about no online MP, since Remote Play is functionally useless. Good snappy review, tho - should have probably talked about AI behaviour tho.
Glad you liked the review! Different strokes and all, but I don’t think I could ever feel an arcade racer is too arcadey for my tastes, but this is coming from someone who holds the likes of Cruis’n Blast in high regard, so that’s where my headspace is at.
It’s too good looking but yet not good enough. It deliberately is trying to replicate 90s jank. Unfortunately, too much of it looks too smooth and modern. It either needed to look worse with far more clunky elements or it needed to just smooth everything out more.
People keep saying 2.5D but there's no such thing as half a dimension. Either it's 2D, or it's 3D. 2.5D used to refer to games with 3D graphics but 2D gameplay. This includes sidescrollers such as Tombi or Klonoa. It also includes early first-person games like Wolfenstein (which, as far as game logic is concerned, is basically a top-down 2D twin-stick shooter - only with the graphical perspective of the main character's first person view). The DOOM Engine is fully 3D. Contrary to popular belief, the game actually moves objects in a 3D space. Just because it has vertical autoaim and lacks a jump button, does not mean it takes place on a singular 2-dimensional plane. Polygonal graphics are not what make a game 3D. Mechanics are.
Curious, what game would you define as such? Because like I mentioned in the video, out of similar sprite-based racers I've played, I'd put VHR above them, part of why I chose the title ;D EDIT: After reading another reply, I think I get what you were trying to say now, I just thought it was a fun play on words that worked for the kind of game this is.
@@seudoquia3558 It's not a conversion? What does that have to do with it lol. It is not pixel perfect by definition. It looks very cool though, butI wish it actually was, it would look even better.
@@Mach5Mike I do realize it was more like a pun and no technicality, It just cought my attention :) I have to deal a lot with this pixel-perfect stuff in pixelart and game development. But to answer your question, a lot of older games. DOS games, or SNES games. For instance Doom, Keen, Mario, etc. list goes on... The best fit for this title would be FZERO on SNES.

I don't know why RUclips recommended me this video but I'm wishlisting this game now. It looks so good.
Well I'm glad the algorithm led you here, thanks for watching! Hopefully the game won't be on your wishlist forever, because it's a lot of fun!
I’ve had many conversations with Mike about racing games of yore. He’s an encyclopedia of knowledge, you should definitely trust his take here.
Between this, Parking Garage Rally Circuit, New Star GP, Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom, Super Woden GPII, Aero GPX... Arcade driving fans have been eating GOOD in the past 12 months!
You got that right!
Wooow that game looks amazing!! I should buy it asap!! And congrats on those views!!! I knew you were destined for success!!! Keep the amazing work!!!
Why thank you very much, and I'll do my best to keep it up, comments like this are what help keep me encouraged and confident!
Fantastic review, sent this video to my one buddy who holds track in crash team racing. Hell I’m buying this now too

Thank you so much, I didn't know about this game, looks super fun!
So many "retro" "arcade" racing games recently, that's great.
You're very welcome!
Power Drift meets Choro Q, even the track has similar rollercoaster feel.Would benefit from additional theme park or historic site (like Easter Island) tracks on its future DLC.
Great review. Definitely subbed
This game looks awesome! My kind of retro inspired nonsense for sure.
Another fantastic video. Keep it up my friend
Thanks a lot as always! Keeping it up’s the goal!
I don't know how I got here, but I'm glad I'm here. Wishing you the big bucks on RUclips!
Glad you're here too, and thanks!
So many good arcade rally games coming out recently!
Very cool game
Nice review! I don't know why I didn't get your channel recommender sooner with how much i love the wii speedracer game and Aero GPX
Thanks a lot, glad the algorithm introduced me to you, I’ve got plenty of more games I want to cover, and hopefully some of them are ones you love as well!
I'm really excited for this game. There can never be enough old school/arcade racers out there.
Oh Wow Victory Heat Rally Is Amazing. 10 Out Of 10. Love It!!!!!❤
I’ve never been this early to a video upload! Great job!
Thanks a lot!
Nice old school hardcore background music
Damn, that's beautiful. Lovely blend of retro and modern.
Great review! Definitely something I'd play
Thanks! Hope you enjoy the game if you do get it!
Seems fun! I don't know if I have time to devote to a racer right now but I'll keep this in mind when I do.
This Game looks so fun and entertaining!
What a gorgeous game, cant wait to play it!
Hope you enjoy playing the game as much as I have!
Super Retro GP: Hold my octagonal tyre...

I have played Parking Garage Rally actually, not as much as I’d like because I was busy with this video, but I’d like to get back to it soon.
Dang, this looks awesome!!
oh tyats cool that you early access for a review.
This is a day 1 buy when it hits switch!
These must be them new fandangled mode 8 graphics I haven't heard of. 😜
>like mario kart
Oh god i can hear the Nintendo lawyers already
It's an amazing game, I agree.
This on the wii or 3ds or psp 😊
Definitely getting this
Thanks mate ❤

Playtonic? As in the original Banjo Kazooie guys!?
Playtonic was this game’s publisher, but yes, the same Playtonic that made Yooka-Laylee with Banjo-Kazooie alum.
Spotted this a few days ago. It looks amazing. Exactly what I’m looking for. Please say it’s coming to consoles.
No release date for it yet, but it is coming to the Switch.
This is how i drive home from work every day. I dont need this game.
Really good game with pixel art. I look. It look like game arcade
Nice cars

8:48 The flag girls are still bare-legged in their leotards instead of having thighhighs in their more recent artworks? Oh thank god... 🌬
Been playing it since it was first announced; did they keep the promise to have the log roads in the option menu as a toggle?
It seems there isn't, at least not at launch. The devs seem to be responding to some feedback on Steam and bringing up things they'd like to potentially update, so maybe that toggle is one of those.
Hello, its already release or no? Thanks. Its cool game
Any physical releases?
Can you use steering wheel, like a logitech g29, or is it only for controller?
Controller only, no native wheel support, though drifting in this game with a wheel sounds like it'd be fun.
Is this game coming to Switch?
It is coming to the Switch, but no release date mentioned yet.
Look out eshop here I come
The Switch version's release is still TBA, but hopefully not too much more of a wait for everyone who wants to play it there.
Is it releasing on consoles as well?
It was supposed to come out on Switch, but that version got delayed.
Sames cool
The drift mechanics is a carbon-copy of Crash Team Racing
Forget PS5 ...Fun games are coming back !

Looks a bit too cutesy for me.
Understandable, it is a very specific art style that just isn’t some people’s thing. Still, I appreciate you for watching!
There is NO sprite scaling going on here whatsoever...LoL!
Perhaps the background environment objects don't scale, but do the car sprites not scale as you get closer to them?
Looks good but too much tire smoke

Polygonal graphics are not what make a game 3D. Mechanics are.
It’s an industry term, people have been using it since the PS1 days and it’s unlikely to vanish now.
Looks like a nice game, but the bossting effect is quite annoying. I actually got a bit nauseous by watching this video.
It looks very cool, but that is NOT what you call pixel perfect.

It’s very generic and boring.
