    HELLO- lovely people. I just wanted to address some questions and comments that seem to have been accumulating in the comment section.
    Firstly let me say- your wishes and kindness on this vlog has been overwhelming. I was actually quite nervous putting this kind of vulnerable 'day in the life' style vlog out there- so thank you to all the wonderful viewers who took the time to watch, like and then comment positively.
    Next- CRT! Personally I have a good deal of respect for the charity of CRT. I have a lot of respect for the massive job that they have and I have had MANY positive encounters with their volunteers and customer service representatives. This vlog was not about CRT as a company or charity- the comments about my overstay were about me being shocked and exhausted and a reaction to being alone. I did NOT overstay- so CRT did get it wrong. That said I was not fined or warned- and the patrol notice was not a fine or warning. It was an invitation to get in touch so that things did not escalate incase I could not move the boat. Was it intimidating? Yes. That's because of the reasons I've already mentioned.
    A day in the life of vlog is always going to have some reactions that are immediate. Reactions that if you were to actually replay the event in a retelling several days later would be different. So what you saw was my honest response at the time. That's the tricky thing with these type of blogs and why you feel so vulnerable as a creator putting them out there.
    Of course I am fine now. I have in the past had to over stay and CRT have been supportive. That was not the issue.
    Thank you all again for watching and liking and commenting. We might not always agree with each other in the comment section, but I do appreciate people who are kind. Or people who go and do extra research because they like to inform, and conversely people who admit they changed their minds and are open to discus these types of things.
    Thanks so much x Annamarie

    I can understand how you feel bad about the notice. I got reported by another boater (I heard them reading the name of my boat out that is only written on my license, not on the boat sides)... unbeknown to them, as they had a winter mooring permit, the canal had stoppages either side of where I was moored. I got an email to say that I was now required to move as I had overstayed. I phoned the local patrol officer who said there must be some mistake as no one in that area was expected to move anywhere. He apologised and told me it will now be removed from my record. Damn busy bodies! Also, just recently I was moored with a few other boats and received harassment from a local house resident who demanded that I didn't run my engine and that I should moor somewhere else. She asked "What is it with you boaters, why do you moor up in groups?" I tried explaining that as a continuous cruiser I have to make use of the limited places that I can moor at on such a shallow canal as I had to comply with the CC regulations. She wouldn't listen and went on to tell me that she is in negotiations with CRT to get a sign put up to stop boats mooring there. Since I left that mooring I have heard from another boater that she has been complaining about them too. A CRT workman has also said she complained about them when they were dredging the canal. Wouldn't you think she'd feel somewhat lucky that she lives in such an interesting location and if she only chilled out a bit could maybe appreciate what canal life can bring to her world? Take care, Ben

    As someone who is recovering from a nasty bout of bronchial asthma and dosed up with anti-biotic pills, my heart goes out to you being sick on a narrowboat - and without your partner. By the look of the condensation on your windows, you don’t have double glazing, and that makes cold damp conditions even worse. 13 degrees in your living room? OMG!! Like most Canadians, my rooms are a toasty, dry 22 degrees most of the time and our winters are dryer than yours. I have to ADD moisture to get my humidity in the 50% range or I get nasty static shocks when I touch metal doorknobs. That was a great video and makes us realize living on a narrowboat is not all glamour and excitement. Please do another and show us how you watch TV together, cook and eat dinner. Stay well you two and a Merry Christmas to you both and all your regular subscribers.

It takes some of the rose coloured specs scenario off. You fight thro it. You win, little victories. You go with life, not try to beat it. AM, you have my full respect. Showing how it is sometimes, and on You Tube......so exposed! That takes a special type, and girl, you are it. I hope you've mended, it is plain to see how the return of Kath lit you up. The notice is unfortunate, and hopefully easily resolved. I have no problem with correctly issued notices, they do serve to keep the canals moving for genuine cruisers and stop people hogging the best moorings. However there is little consistency- London is nose to tail with boats abusing the CC licence yet nothing ever seems to happen to them!

    Ah. You've opened can of worms with that notice. A chat with one of these 'patrol persons' and you can get an idea of what they are told to look for. Any boat that is in the same stretch of water more than once in a four week period. The CRT expect (have no legal right to expect) a continuous cruiser to be out of the area and not return for (typically) 8 weeks (excepting where you are on a long arm, like the Lancashire). Their logic is that you could otherwise alternate two moorings and commute to work. Makes sense. The person who you spoke to was actually helping you by putting down that your were ill (as you were), as the CRT will accept that as a mitigating reason. The system they operate is fatally flawed, but well intentioned. And, to make the system flexible enough to be humane, I doubt it will ever be otherwise.
    If you have a reason to stay somewhere, always call them, email them, whatever, so that your contact preceeds any notice. Usually, the patrol person I spoke to said, the CRT call them and let them know if a boater has made such a contact. They are also told not to issue notices where weather may be the mitigating factor (iced in, high winds, floods) or if a closure causes the problem. They don't like to be out in such weather, so they don't go out!
    The two most common mitigating reasons are illness/injury and mechanical. I have spoken to many boaters who have made a call, and they have always been received warmly and told they could stay. Much harder if you are solo, but still doable.

Our cats have also tried to convince us they don't understand how the cat flap works. We tell them "IT'S A PUSH!" Also - VERY interested in the staircase painting. As to the CRT - I understand your anger and upset. I'd be the very same. FWIW, our cat just had his rabies vaccine - and he was lethargic and off his food (yes, the cat who HAS NEVER EVER IN HIS WHOLE LIFE been fed and cried from severe hunger 5 minutes after he's eaten) for a day.

    Just want to say hello to you both and your lovely cats. And to thank you for all the beautiful videos and banter between you which never fail to generate positivity.
    I'm hailing you from Auroville in India, where I now live, though am travelling back to the UK in April for a couple of months, to visit family and friends. Be great to say hello in person then if possible.
    My son and I lived on a boat for over 10 years from '93 onwards.....memorable times indeed. We had a cat called Boswell and Kush the greyhound who used to do u-turns in the corridor!
    It was a great lifestyle and though I'm in my golden years now, I intend to come back onto the water for those months I'll be spending in the UK.....not this year unfortunately, as I have to free up resources first. Definitely testament to your travel vlogs.....ahh, nothing like sleeping on the water.
    Hope you're feeling better now, one can always guarantee that CRT have a knack for 'kicking you' rather unjustly, when you're down! Despite your travel log being so extensive as to 'bulge through the seams' Such is life.....and one of the waterways many hazards.
    Not to worry, keep up the excellent work and have fun. I think the appeal of your vlogs for me anyhow is in the candidness of showing it just as it is ....... highly commendable and quite brave actually. And great to see how practical you've both become. You put my paltry efforts to shame, no doubt about that. Haha.
    Anyway, this isn't intended to be a treatise, so I'll sign off for now.
    Love and all good wishes, Di

    This was a really nice change of pace. I could handle one of these every 2 or 3 months as it shows daily life on the canal rather than the canal itself. Loved it.

    MERRY CHRISTMAS, LADIES -- I just read one of the posts below. Having a thermostatic controlled diesel fed stove makes a lot of sense. I was the skipper of the S/V MIMI; a vessel that worked in education. We traveled all along the east coast of the United States seeing between 35 and 40 thousand schools kids annually. We had a drip diesel type stove aboard and I have to caution you, you need to keep your eye on it, if left on its own it will all of a sudden get red hot and it seems to take forever to calm once you catch it and slip it back a notch. It takes a bit of getting used to, BE CAREFUL, LADIES!!! Don’t be penny-wise and pound foolish, for safety sake, do it right. I could not go without my Sunday "Narrowboat Experience" fix each week.

      George Story, I think your comment may be true of the particular make of drip feed stove you had, but not of all of them! I have heard of this with some stoves, usually solid fuel, but we’ve had a diesel one on our boat for 15 years, and never had that problem!
      Cost is not the only reason for using this type of stove; they use NO battery power, they are simple and they generally have few breakdowns. It’s a choice many narrowboaters in the UK make, they can’t all be wrong!

    With regards to the Patrol Notice especially for the longer 14 day stay moorings you are not allowed to return within a certain time period, normally at least 30 days, this is to stop Continuous Cruiser's from staying 14 days leaving for a couple and returning for another 14 days, you will need to check as all are different even on the same stretch of canal. You will find C.Cing this time of year is sometimes more difficult then you imagine. Good luck and stay warm.

    • @TheNarrowboatExperience
      @TheNarrowboatExperience  4 года назад

      What you say is factually correct. However, in my vlog I highlighted that this hadn't happened. In fact we had been down a different canal and filled up with Diesel twice. We did not return within 14 days there was not a 14 day limit. Though we have been at this mooring before- as is obvious by CRT logging us.

    • @paulduff3810
      @paulduff3810 4 года назад +1

      I said you can't return within 30 days not 14 days, CaRT will have your sightings logged, as you say it was about 4 weeks, so it may be less then the 30 day rule. I take it they just wanted info and didn't issue a fine? You'll find if you are genuine they are very understanding and will help, unlike what the CaRT Bashers tell people, take care and get well.

    • @willowtree6657
      @willowtree6657 4 года назад

      Oh thank you for this information, I wasn’t aware of the 30 day rule, and the various rules for each stretch of canal. This will keep us moving :)

      But did you return within a 30 day limit as Paul Duff explains? If you did, would that be the reason you got a Patrol Notice I wonder.

      I am feeling a lot better. I did not include the patrol notice to be mean to CRT in any way, just to explain how it affected me and talk about it really- I think that's part of advocating canal life too. I hope it came across as such. x

    So glad you are feeling better Annamarie. We enjoyed your ‘home alone’ vlog, and would be happy to see some more ‘day in the life ‘ ones.
    It was obviously very upsetting to receive that Patrol Notice. A lesson to all not to visit the same mooring within 2 weeks, even though you are perfectly entitled too. It’s a shame the CRT have given you a black mark when you have done nothing wrong. Also a shame it came when Kath was away, no disrespect meant to you, just not good when you are ill.
    Anyway we hope you are recovered very soon and get your new fire installed to keep you toasty. Merry Christmas 🙋🙋🏻‍♂️🐶🎄🎄🎄

    There's no problem, or 'no worries' as you antipodeans say, as far as that notice is concerned. You've got 20k+ subscribers at your back.
    Illness aside, the fact that your whole, smiley/always half-laughing demeanour changes with the absence of Kath is, perversely, heartwarming.
    Now, snap out of it, or your compatriots will start calling you a whingeing Pom! ;) x

    That Patrol notice is vexing, surely they can remove it from record once you have challenged it. Seems like shoddy record keeping on their part. I loved the day in the life vlog, thank you for sharing!

    • @TheNarrowboatExperience
      @TheNarrowboatExperience  4 года назад

      They don't remove it, but hopefully there is a note next to it now. It won't matter in the grand scheme of things because we move so far it was more upsetting at the time.
