Such a good album. _In Absentia_ was the album where Steven (the lead guitarist and primary songwriter of the band) had JUST discovered he liked metal (he had worked as a producer on Opeth's _Blackwater Park_ album, and that band's guitarist, Mikael Åkerfeldt, does some guest guitar solos on this and a couple of their next few albums as well. Wilson and Akerfeldt collaborated a bunch in the 00's. Prior to this album, most of Porcupine Tree's stuff was really mellow and psychadelic, like early Pink Floyd. Good, but quite different. Wilson's solo stuff is also interesting. "Drive Home" is probably a good place to start with Wilson's solo stuff.
I've heard of Opeth a lot, but never actually listened. What do you think about them? I honestly noticed some resemblance to Pink Floyd in other PT songs, and I'm glad we think alike XD. Thanks for the suggestion bro!
