    Wow! You have turned the proverbial sow's ear into a silk purse! Very impressive sail work, especially.

    Nice build you show that even the inexpensive kits can turn into a great looking model.

      Thanks Eddiejoe, and yeah, I think with a little creativity you can take any model as far as you want it really.

    Your build is the best I've seen on this particular ship. Great job with the paint!!
    Can you explain your woodgrain paint technique/process?

    Very nice! The time you spent shows well. Appreciate you sharing. I'm about 1/3 way with mine but it will hang from the ceiling in our Nautical room and be somewhat of a flyting merchant with white hull, yellow stripe and blue top.

      Very cool Joe and thank you for the comment. I ended up building a glass case for my ship for a fraction of what the custom cases cost online. Your ship will look great with that color scheme.

    that looks fantastic! good to see what other nightmares are packed in that thread

      Ironhide's, thank you first of all...it was a fun build and I would do it again but if you decide to jump in on this one make sure you have some time. I had to buy a lot of additional material including thread. The small spool sent was not half enough. It worked out for the best however because I thought in real world not all the rope would match so I bought different thicknesses and colors of thread to finish the build.

      Thanks Michael. Good luck on your ship, it's tedious work but fun. I did end up building a glass case for it afterwards.

    Wow i am amazed on the sails I’m currently doing this exact ship the instructions are garbage lol but the work on the sails just wow I applaud you for that good job on the turn out

    • @yab8bobby
      @yab8bobby  3 года назад

      Thank you Ivan. I sewed the sails then used half wood glue and half water mixed and saturated the cloth before laying the cloth over the plastic molds to form the sail shapes. Just in case you wanted to try it yourself. Good luck! The build was fun.

    So like do you need to prime the hull, cannons and whatnot before painting

  • @DAGroveMC
    @DAGroveMC 7 месяцев назад

    Would you happen to remember the paint brand and process you used for this model? Its my first time doing anything like this and i just cant seem to get the paint to stick on the small pieces even after primer

    Looks great, i have the kit in the box but it will be my first ship and im not too sure about it.

    • @yab8bobby
      @yab8bobby  2 года назад +1

      Well here is the deal IM, because this is a fairly inexpensive kit, you can make the mistakes to learn by that you'll need to learn before getting into more expensive builds or even future inexpensive builds. I'm getting ready to start a 1.5 year project that with eventually make this channel. The Occre Santisima Trinidad in 1:90 scale is in the lineup and all those little mistakes I've learned from I want under my belt before that build. Thanks for the comment.

    The best of this model ever! Where did you get sail patterns?

    • @yab8bobby
      @yab8bobby  2 года назад

      Sorry for the late response James but I actually created the sail patterns by cutting similar sizes swatches of cloth (buy a roll and cut itto a little bit larger shape) to the molded sails that come in the kit. Mix 50/50 wood glue and water, saturate the cloth, then lay it on the molds to form the shapes. When dry remove the cloth sails and cut the excess. Thanks.

    I am building this also,bought it 12 years ago, had back surgery and now need something to do inside ,remembered this ship sitting in the box downstairs at stage 4 . Fantastic job by the way, I have looked at a lot of Jolly Rodgers online and yours is my favorite. Can you tell me what paint you used to get the deck looking so great. I have tried a number of colors and can’t seem to get it right. Great video also , ship is awesome.

      @yab8bobby  3 года назад

      Thank you David, I appreciate it. Unfortunately, I'm in the process of moving and all of my paints are in storage but what I can tell you is that as a base color I used a light brown enamel paint so I had some time to work with it. Before I let it dry I used a brush with a minimal amount of dark drown and worked in the word grain appearance. Don't be afraid to blend the paints somewhat either. After drying I used a very light quantity of dark colored wash (diluted paint [spirits for enamel/water for acrylic]) to fill in cracks to give some shadowing effects. Good luck on it. You'll have fun.

      @@yab8bobby thanks , for the info, i am trying the mixing thing with two wood grain acrylics , but the wash sounds like it might be the missing link.

    It's the french frigate "La Flore" and not a pirate ship, that sailed long after the golden age of piracy...

  • @philbenza6380
    @philbenza6380 3 года назад

    I picked up one at Ollies for 6 bucks, but the sails were missing, this was a Spanish ship called the Santa Rosa that was built in 1769 and sold to France a few years later and renamed La Flore. The instructions are awful, but the detail is excellent for molds that are 55 years old, I' m building it as the Spanish ship from that great movie The Crimson Pirate, a fun build even though I usually build classic car models,

    • @yab8bobby
      @yab8bobby  3 года назад

      Thanks for the comment Phil. Although you have experience with classic cars, I can almost gaurantee you will have fun with your ship build. Good luck with it as it takes a lot of patience. With the sails missing you could perhaps buy the cloth material and roll it up to the yardarms as in a "docked" situation.

    I'm doing this model now. I think its best to do it once, then learn from mistakes and do it again much easier, faster, and better. Its only $15 at hobby lobby so its inexpensive.

      You are absolutely correct PS. I'm a different creature, lol. I chose right away to take the time and get it done the first time but I had learned from some mistakes before this one. Thanks for the comment.

      Usually not necessary Asian Potato Farmer. A simple cloth rub down is typically enough to clean these parts up unless it's been open for a long period.
