I like her in the indie/rock genre same way I like lil dicky in the hiphop/pop genre. She totally butchered this though. Just awful. Stick to the verbose spoken word monotone sarcastic schtick Courts.
Lyrics changes and monotone voice aside, I am thoroughly impressed by Barnett's ability to recreate the inner essence of both the song and Kanye West himself.
sorry for the late response but i think he really cant here in this setup, i think other microphones would get a lot of bleeding if he plays any harder.
Really like Courtney's performance. Not so much the radio show host. Just didn't did the loopy vibe from that end. But at least he didn't go on for long.
huge kanye fan also huge courtney fan...Im fine with it, its not great but also not the worse...like who cares, its not that big of a deal, loads of people have covered it already so yeah all good
No she didn't, she did a 'haha lol how ironic would it be if I covered a Kanye song' type of cover. She adds nothing new to the original, she only did it for cheap laughs.
I doubt that she's a Kanye fan, at the very start of the video she says 'I don't know much about hip hop.' Also she said 'and also Lou Reed said he liked it' implying that she doesn't know much about the song other than the fact that Lou Reed liked the song. Maybe she did become a Kanye fan later on, but it's clear that she wasn't at the time this video was made.
I may sound like d***head but, this is just my opinion, guys, sorry. This song could be sung in a seductive, low, alto, raspy, distorted woman sound (For reference, first verse of Kakegurui's 1st opening). I get it if she just can't do that because she refuses to do it (oversexualizement and stuff). And what i also get is that she tends to have her accent retain to the song. It's all right, honestly, but it devalues the meaning of the song a little bit. It's great that you're speaking out abt racism in America when you're an Aussie, but it just has less necessity on it (again, just a bit). The drums sure is a little bit lazy in the beginning, but it gets way better when you progress throughout the song. Overall, it's a great cover of a great song. It sounds nice.
Yoooo......seriously I cringed when the drums came in....bravely pushed forward and made it to the second line of the lyrics and had to call it quits...this is SO silly...artistic appropriation at its finest. You go girl, sang that black rap...
The fact she * had to* remove word "nigga" from the song makes me offended. Why on earth "white" can't artists do a cover of a "black" song with the original lyrics?!
+Mark Jones It's a Kanye West song. Does anyone know what they are rapping when they are rapping his songs? Kanye West probably doesn't even get his own songs.
i enjoyed it as well as the original - just very different aesthetics. i don't mind people saying they don't like something, or that they don't get something. they can even say they hate something. but to say that there's nothing to "get" just because you don't get it is one of the most willfully ignorant shit someone can say.
+Sean Seaphan I understand the song very very well. I just think that the detached delivery just isn't appropriate for this song. I would have preferred it if she had more passion, but that is her style and I respect her for it. I just would've preferred it if she sounded like she gave a damn about what she was saying.
she's too cool for school. it's a weird hipster-punk shtick. i can still dig it. but it certainly doesn't have the replay value of the original, so you may be on to something.
Even though I've just watched this I still can't believe it's real. There's no way Courtney Barnett covered Black Skinhead
fuck I love when she gets really into a verse, she's so sweet and genuine and then when she starts singing she is such a badass
This is one of like three really good Kanye covers I've ever heard.
I love Courtney Barnett and I love Kanye. I think I might be the only one here lmao
you're not alone!
Pretty much every hipster who listens to triple j worships both Courtney Barnett and Kanye West. You're definitely not alone.
I like her in the indie/rock genre same way I like lil dicky in the hiphop/pop genre.
She totally butchered this though. Just awful. Stick to the verbose spoken word monotone sarcastic schtick Courts.
Twister why tf would half these ppl be here
Twister no I love Kanye. And like her too 😌
this was fucking awesome. everything a cover should be
300 chickens 😂 lmao
Lyrics changes and monotone voice aside, I am thoroughly impressed by Barnett's ability to recreate the inner essence of both the song and Kanye West himself.
Shoutout to Rolling Stone for informing me this exist! This is awesome!
holy shit how am I JUST now seeing this!? so good.

Como te amo Courtney por Dios
It's unreal how awesome this performance is.
her monotone sarcasm schtick has novelty value and i can dig it but this is hot garbage.
this is fucking shite
That was pretty badass
Wow this is awesome
the drummer doesn't come close to matching the energy of the song
i agree. he should've been bangin those drums. still really good IMO.
I think the drums are pretty cool here
Sure, but the drumming is a perfect for Courtney's cadence/style.
sorry for the late response but i think he really cant here in this setup, i think other microphones would get a lot of bleeding if he plays any harder.
I love this
This cheese slaps. Talented chicken. She knows her biz
You guys rocked that song. deserves way more views.
+Rad N Bad Collars not their video. triple j has the original on their page
PORRA ...FICOU FODA ESSA VERSÃO ROCK COM A COURTNEY..BLACK SKINHEAD
wow wow wow, great, :-)
lol what the fuck
Why do people hate this cover? This is very good
Gate-keeping bullshit.
This is the best thing uh :')
Kanye is a genius
LOL
Time to get schwiftyyy....
I like it
Is it just me or are 335 fret boards a bit weird to play on. I always wanted one but held off. Maybe it's just to get used to them.
they killed it!!
She will say "Fuck", "Shit", "Arse" "Bitch" but not "Bitches". Weird. Awesome version of the song though. I like it more than the original.
she doesnt say the N word either because she probably thinks disrespecting a group of people in derogatory/racist/ sexist terms is rude *shrug*
She says "Bitch" but cuts out "Bitches".
Bruh this doesn't match the og but u do u
@@sunriseintrees92she's a coward for not saying it
I hope Kanye has heard this
I can see how Lou Reed liked her version
I don't know if I have ever heard a Kanye West song. But i suspect if Courtney covered any of his songs I would like it.
I recommend Family Business. It's my favorite ^-^
Try blood on the leaves or school spiet
BIBLICAL
I just came to see what pissed Horrorshow off so much lol
Rock on girl.
I really like this tbh
real good
Did she say Lou Reed liked it?
Lou Reed wrote an amazing review on the entire Yeezus album, just google Lou Reed reviews Yeezus :)
fucking awesome! Load up your car with some loaded friends and scream the lyrics together!
the song that killed Lou Reed
is she saying chickes instead of bitches?
This shit was funny
Really like Courtney's performance. Not so much the radio show host. Just didn't did the loopy vibe from that end. But at least he didn't go on for long.
Any Kanye fans here? Do you guys like this or is do you think it should be kept as the original? I wanna see some discourse ;0
huge kanye fan also huge courtney fan...Im fine with it, its not great but also not the worse...like who cares, its not that big of a deal, loads of people have covered it already so yeah all good
+Gabriel Michael thank you ✌️
this sucked
this sucked
i'm a HUGE kanye fan (i wrote an essay on him lol) and i think the instruments were fine but the vocals were a bit cringeworthy
HAHAHAHA OH FUCK
Shout out Solo calling out this cultural appropriation
Not bad but doesn't match the OG. Still good tho. Edit: I was trying to be nice but this isn't good at all.
Void af fam
It took me ages to realise that Horrorshow's like a version was secretly throwing shade at Courtney Barnett for her atrocious cover of this song.
Juan Kemps she did a great cover
No she didn't, she did a 'haha lol how ironic would it be if I covered a Kanye song' type of cover. She adds nothing new to the original, she only did it for cheap laughs.
Juan Kemps she's a Kanye fan you fool. I loved this cover. Courtney and Kanye are both great
I doubt that she's a Kanye fan, at the very start of the video she says 'I don't know much about hip hop.' Also she said 'and also Lou Reed said he liked it' implying that she doesn't know much about the song other than the fact that Lou Reed liked the song. Juan Kemps dude she said it on twitter once, I know for a fact she is a fan of Kanye. Why does it matter?
300 CHICKENS
she improved this song for me thank you sincerely closet kanye fan shhhhhh dont tell no 1
sounds like a busker in St Kilda.
she got off on that shit . nice.
Instrumental is pretty amazing, vocals are not that great.
it's her style and many people including myself would argue that her style is fantastic
Ruby Ford It's my opinion, gosh.
+Wolter Whyte I wasn't getting mad at you?
Ruby Ford is this a question?
+Wolter Whyte it seems to be an expression of befuddlement
wtf is this
the best thing you've ever heard
George Simpson That was a good one!
Rick Sanchez time to get schwiftyyy
It’s a pile of garbage
kiira0823 Terrible!!!!
VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY GOD
I have never seen somebody butcher a song go much
Bec Sandridge- You’re the voice would like a word with you
this is so bad i have to reconsider listening to courtney lol
Please never do this again
I may sound like d***head but, this is just my opinion, guys, sorry.

she's australian, not british. but yeah this cover was a poor choice! dismissive of black culture
@@maxm3246 i'll be sure to correct myself, thank you
instrumental is great but holy shit is she having a stroke or what
This is now Courtney Barnett's song, Kanye start paying loyalties.
akward when a rap artist is more punk-rocker than a rocker
she's not punk she's like blues contemporary
Awkward when you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.
you dont make sense mate
wow this is so gross
This is a joke. Just.... Stop
Agreed it's shite
Yoooo......seriously I cringed when the drums came in....bravely pushed forward and made it to the second line of the lyrics and had to call it quits...this is SO silly...artistic appropriation at its finest. You go girl, sang that black rap...
shes allowed to sing it???
@@spucclah8039 true, but it isn't good
Wow I signed in just to dislike this 😭
This is some racist shit lol
how tf is this racist
The fact she * had to* remove word "nigga" from the song makes me offended. Why on earth "white" can't artists do a cover of a "black" song with the original lyrics?!
Only niggas can call niggas niggas - a nigga
Also the fact that she said "came to see me and my black skin" but couldn't say the word "bitches" is interesting
Is the comment a joke lol
this is the worst
This is absolutely awful. There is NO intensity and she doesn't even have passion in what she's saying, like she doesn't get what's she saying!
+Mark Jones It's a Kanye West song. Does anyone know what they are rapping when they are rapping his songs? Kanye West probably doesn't even get his own songs.
