I love her guitar playing. As a guitarist, I'm so sick of people trying to show off with their amazing skills. She's just so honest and has created some very original riffs. One of Australia's best guitarists for sure.
This is what im talking about...you know just clean tone..good riff rather than the "new" shit thats being praised by many too much overdrive too much sweeping i feel like its not about the emotion anymore its about the techniques
Yeah, she's great. But what's special about her guitar playing is that she's not a super-showoff about it. She's not doing all these pointless tricks that you hear a lot of 'great' guitarists doing. Everything that she's doing contributes to the actual melody and rhythm of the song. Some of her guitar playing reminds me of songs like "Bold as Love" and "Little Wing", by The Jimi Hendrix Experience. She's got a really good sense of melody. I think that's sometimes (believe it or not) overlooked in guitar playing. A lot of people only count a guitarist as 'great' if they are really fast, and constantly shredding or whatever. Not many people think about the imagination and the melody that the guitarist is getting across.
"Yeah, maybe I'll get a new guitar in a couple years." Fender - "Maybe we can help out with that." Though her song attitudes are often low key, she just radiates positive vibes.
I love how she doesn't pretend to know guitars and is honest about not really caring to learn. I love to play guitar but always feel like people think I should know more about them the longer I play and I act like I am caring but I never fucking will, I just want to play.
I know! Iv totally Plateaued in my guitar skills. But I just enjoy singing to the cords I know. I wish I could play riffs but I just never excelled at it :(
I think that plateau hits us all. I don't know what to do about it. Sometimes the guitar sits for 2 months. Then I pick it up and actually get something good out of it. ...for a few minutes. Then I pick it up the next day and I stink! What happened?
One must pull for this young lady -- bright smile looks like Paul McCartney's kid with all the talent. Refreshingly humble and affable, Courtney is a welcomed new artist.
She is so down to earth, honest and cute. I just love her. When she hits the big time, and she will, she'll be able to afford that 12 string Rickenbacker.
First time I saw and listen to her was in NOS Alive in Lisboa, Portugal in the summer of 2016. I listened to the full album «Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit» in the Arrifana Beach (Alentejo, Portugal) in August that year. Magical. And I fell in love.
This girl has a real gift. She's unique and a great songwriter. I'm looking forward to following her body of work in the coming decades. She's a career artist sort of like if Patti Smith played guitar.
She's so fresh in this clip, just starting out. She seemed tired and burnt out when she was interviewed at a music store in LA last month (December 2021) . The road takes a toll.
Same! And as a fellow lefty I can say she's correct -- unless you go on-line lefty guitar buying is hard. Even then you end up spending a ton of money on something you've never played before. The other option is playing on cheap beginner instruments which sucks the joy out of music and makes you want to quit...I'm glad she kept at it!
Too bad the NME didn't ask her about why she's not not using a pick. Not many electric guitarists play without a pick. Only Lindsey Buckingham and Wilko Johnson come to mind. And now Courtney. I admire her all the more for it.
José Gollarza Mine also, thought I was class showing up at parties and showing everyone and they were all just like 'mate it's so easy' and I would cry in a corner
She never mentioned the Fender Jaguar she plays sometimes so exquisitely. I think the sound she gets from that is maybe my favorite from her. Blows me away
She looks like the one and only Courtney Barnett! Why? Why are humans Always comparing. Peace. Another female guitarist from australia (Oh! OMG??... There's more than 1 famous or non famous australian female guitarist!) Chill the fck out man. Andria
+ Peter Jacobson Can't see it, even a bit, but someone else here says the same and it's clear lots of people do. This probably means I'm wrong. It's an unusual feeling but do you know, I kinda like it.
I love her guitar playing. As a guitarist, I'm so sick of people trying to show off with their amazing skills. She's just so honest and has created some very original riffs. One of Australia's best guitarists for sure.
+Ruby Matic i agree, dont need all that wankery
haha your onto it. im glad im not the only one
This is what im talking about...you know just clean tone..good riff rather than the "new" shit thats being praised by many too much overdrive too much sweeping i feel like its not about the emotion anymore its about the techniques
Distortion has it's place, but if you can't play clean at all, you are gonna lose my interest quickly. Courtney does both.

I didn't want that to end. What an beautifully authentic person.
"Anytime I go into a guitar store there's never any good left-handed guitars". I hear you Courtney. Loud and clear! xx
One must pull for this young lady -- bright smile looks like Paul McCartney's kid with all the talent. Refreshingly humble and affable, Courtney is a welcomed new artist.
Love the way she talks, looks around, talk, and then scratch her head so casually-- damn, i'm in love!
+dipro001 Her mannerisms remind me of a rabbit.
a lot of things i guess
She just exudes warmth and cool vibes!!
She is so down to earth, honest and cute. I just love her. When she hits the big time,
and she will, she'll be able to afford that 12 string Rickenbacker.
petemclinc right? very clever too.
petemclinc I'm in love with her, what a woman for gods sake!!!
+Oscaroonee neenee Congratulations. You probably found the one day in the year when she lost her temper. Minor music star? My ass!
she was prob being sarcastic
+The Milk Cult of Sisyphus source?
I wish there was a video on her lyricism. She has to be one of the most unique writers I've ever heard
She's so down to earth. I thinks she's definitely one of the best artists ever. Her writing is so unique.

Come as you are and Something in the way was the second and third song she learned. That's really cool :D
She is quickly becoming an all time favorite for me. So fantastic
She's so fresh in this clip, just starting out. She seemed tired and burnt out when she was interviewed at a music store in LA last month (December 2021) . The road takes a toll.
My world brightened up after I realized she's left-handed lol
Same! And as a fellow lefty I can say she's correct -- unless you go on-line lefty guitar buying is hard. Even then you end up spending a ton of money on something you've never played before. Phew
So refreshing
I rather listen to her all day than some guitar gods playing 100 miles an hour
This video makes me luv her even more. She is so down to earth and talented as well.
Ha... good old Smoke on the water! I was 8... back in the 70's ;) Now I'm playing your stuff and love it!
Too bad the NME didn't ask her about why she's not not using a pick. Not many electric guitarists play without a pick. Only Lindsey Buckingham and Wilko Johnson come to mind. And now Courtney. I admire her all the more for it.
GLOatYT Mark Knopfler

+wildcats2012 You already said that three months ago... ;)

Courtney Barnett changed my life
I’m hanging onto everything she’s saying. She’s so amazing
Courtney feels my pain as a left handed player

The very first song I've learn to play on guitar was Come As You Are.
+José “'Golli'” Gollarza Me too, and I don't even play guitar
Mine to.
José Gollarza Mine also, thought I was class showing up at parties and showing everyone and they were all just like 'mate it's so easy' and I would cry in a corner
José Gollarza Mine was "wish you were here" Pink Floyd😂
Me too. And I tell everybody wanting to learn to do the same.
I've got a 68 harmony rocket and its amazing.
Aussies always down to earth. That's the best thing about us-unaffected by fame🎸😘😎
Her neighbour must have been a nirvana fan, what a legend of a neighbor
First time Im hooked since John Prine .Keep on rocking Courtney.
I specifically always wanted a forest green jazzmaster too!!
Me too and I'm a lefty - they're impossible to find!
she thinks i'm clever because i keep her from dying :D
ur the paramedic. legend
The Telly suits her well. Great sound through a pair of Devilles - one soaked in reverb, one dry.
She never mentioned the Fender Jaguar she plays sometimes so exquisitely. I think the sound she gets from that is maybe my favorite from her. Blows me away
I love her. She's so down to earth
What a great vid.
She kind of looks like a mixture of Paul McCartney and Suzi Quatro
+JD C. Definitely! I was thinking the same about Suzi Quatro!
yes!
She looks like the one and only Courtney Barnett! Why? Why are humans Always comparing. Peace. Another female guitarist from australia (Oh! OMG??... There's more than 1 famous or non famous australian female guitarist!) Chill the fck out man. Andria
You're right.... She looks like a female version of Paul McCartney...lol. The bangs and eyes
andysings calm down jeez
We love you Courtney!

she is a very inspiring artist
didn't know she was left-handed. cool!
"Maybe I'll get a new guitar in a couple of years..."
Is she real or another Chris Lilley character?
RIP Pat Mullins
Hector Cedeno it's Courtney Barnett 100% legit
CB. You Rock Girl. Keep on Keeping on. Xo.
Gorgeous musician and person.
She's awesome!
that telecaster is the reverse of mine in every way
#notmetoo because although I have a Fender, I'm really useless, but you are more than great!
Forest green jazzmaster. Nice.
+Scruffy P It's Thurston Moore's
i love courtneyy!
God bless lefty guitar players. Good on you Courtney.
She’s great.🎸
“The paramedic thinks I’m clever because I play guitar. I think he’s clever because he stops people dying”
So glad Courtney picked up a guitar
I feel good for being left handed :)
I go in to that shop, whenever I'm in London!
Wunjo is the best shop, on Denmark Street.
Well... I'm smitten.
she looks a bit like Paul McCartney no?
YESS I SEE IT!!
+Peter Jacobson Hah! You too? I was first thinking Joey Molland.
+Peter Jacobson yes
Now that you mention it.....
+ Peter Jacobson Can't see it, even a bit, but someone else here says the same and it's clear lots of people do. This probably means I'm wrong. It's an unusual feeling but do you know, I kinda like it.
I wonder if Courtney ever found a lefty Jazz Master? I have one I'd love to see her buy. She'd have to paint it, but might like it the way it is.
Fender customized a Curt Cobain model for her.
She's so rad.
So love
Courtney Barnett make me Soul : )
such a funny analogy! 3:50
I always have a bit of nerves before I release too.
Upside down right handed..that's what love feels like right now.
Pervert :P
She plays left handed!
Friend_Qqqqq Should we let her know?
it's not often I see another lefty in music. it's reassuring, especially when it's a musician as awesome as barnett.
Friend_Qqqqq LOL Thanks Capt. Obvious.
URKillingme100 give it a rest
Nirvana inspired. Beautiful
we left handed often learn to play upside down
The first song I learnt to play was smoke on the water 😂
She'll need to go to Japan for a Jazzmaster
Punky Arya Stark?
South paw picker....like someone who passed thru this life. Jimi Forever Hendrix!
courtney barnett flips the nut!! that settles the southpaw debate.
Hope I get to meet Her sum Day... And Jam with Her Would even Be Sweeter! 😁
Courtney, please come to Germany. Peace
John Wick just wants to get some bass strings and the damn store is closed early.
I am left handed at everything but learned to play right handed. It wasn't any harder and I can't do anything else lefty.
i wonder if she is related to Jimmy Barnett who once played with fleetwoodmac
"that's the main one" true that
She is so cute and amazing!
When she said that she couldn't try a lot of guitars cuz of the left handed thing it made a lil sad
Lefty Tele
Very simpatico person she is :)
Shes a sweetheart
I'm left handed but I learned how to play on a right handed guitar
I love this girl.
But is it just me? or... Does she look more and more like Anthony Hopkins every year???
yo i have a forest green jazzmaster no way!
We are living in the age of 'yeah'
😍
That's so mad. My nan's neighbour taught me Come As You Are. It's the only song I know how to play haha
Great interview , She should buy a Gibson. She looks like Angus Young .
