- Courtney Barnett, an Australian who's making quite a splash in this country, joins CBS This Morning's Saturday Session. Rolling Stone, Spin, Pitchfork, and Paste all have her debut album in their "Top albums of the year." Barnett rocked Madison Square Garden last night in New York, opening for the band "Blur." She performs "Nobody really cares if you don't go to the party" in CBS This Morning's Saturday Sessions.
I just thought I’d say this. It’s hard to be honest with a RUclips comment but here we go: I’m anxious all the time about literally nothing. I don’t think she’s pretentious at all. She’s more real than most people I’ve met in my life. She totally gets it.
i always smile when i see Courtney giving an interview on an important platform. U BROKE THE RULES BABY, DECENT MUSIC CAN GET THROUGH THE SHITSTORM APPEARENTLY!
what a lovely human being
This never gets old. Love Courtney.
For not being a guitar nerd, or not knowing much about guitars or amps as she claims, here she is at 1:24 as a kid building her own what appears to be a Gibson style Memphis. How awesome is that? I wonder if that's her dad's workshop? Definitely my favorite female southpaw! Can' get enough of her, she is so cool!
You got that right.
That interviewer is one cool young cat in his leather jacket
heh-heh, yeah. Media? Same as it ever was. Web and cable tv announcers will always do this: make a desperate attempt to appear somehow relevant in the face of an artist like Ms. Barnett, who is actually DOING something creative!
Rockin the "cool guidance counselor" look
haha.......and he mistakes an asthma attack for an anxiety variety
Always a pleasure to see her and listen to her music, fresh and strong.
Laid back, but not subtle. Perfect. So happy for her.
love her music
i don't think i've heard her sound more dylanesque than this. she's a beast, saw her three times last year.
+iluvugoldenblue I'm curious why people compare her to Bob Dylan so much. ??? To me the lyrics are a little Nirvana with the rhyme pattern widely attributed to Eminem. Maybe I shouldn't try and box her in.
+Beach Mouse for me, in this video in particular, it's her tone and delivery, and she's a more dylan like songwriter than cobain like.
I wonder if she was influenced at all by Liz Phair.
She’s f’ing rad.
killer performance
I hate when people say that "Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit." is her debut album, just fucking Google her and realise that she's released two EPs and an LP made up of the two, called "The Double EP: A Sea of Split Peas".
But technically this is her first full length album...... js.
The first two EPs were not a full album.
Courtney .. the new Paul McCartney!!!!!!
She rocks on stage like Kurt Cobain
um, no.the drummer is nothing like Grohl.
darkpearl88 haha
This gives me the vibe of listening to Nirvana songs.
typical that the android pay ad was on this video for me haha
That bass player is killer. Heavy bottom end.
was the sound guy sick that day?
Looks like the interviewer went out and bought a new leather jacket for the interview with a rock and roller.Silly.
she sounds very 90th.
pretty sure 'avant gardener' is about a hayfever attack, although it could be anxiety too
... yes :)
she literally said it was about an anxiety attack. uh.
Echo and the bunnymen....monkees.....buddy holley......
What happened with Courtney Barnett?
Wow....laughed at leather jacket......hated that the dude mistook an asthma attack for an anxiety attack ....love Courtney Barnett
She's like a nervous Tracy Ullman
Just FWIW Avant Gardener is not about an "anxiety attack"; it was an anaphylactic allergic episode, and a true medical emergency. You don't get "adrenaline straight to the heart" for an anxiety attack. Typical journalistic sloppiness with facts.
Weird interviewer
It doesn't sound like she is actually playing that guitar.
+Keegan Hudson She is. I thought the same at first but then I realized that, while she retains the same strum pattern, she adds the flairs with hammer ons and pull offs. I think she's using a compressor so that they are as loud as her strumming.
+Drew Hayden I thought the same thing, too. She makes it look easier than it is.
It's her picking style, I've always been amazed at people that can strum like that while keeping a kicking rhythm.
That comment is the one from someone who's never grabbed an instrument in his hands. Of course she plays, and her songs aren't musically complex at all. I've learnt how to play this one, Depreston and History Eraser in one sitting, about an hour and a half more or less. And I am a crappy amateur. But her strumming makes the chords and the groove itself sound cooler, she's got a soft touch. Not to talk about her lyrics, she's brilliant.
Kids these days care more about LOOKS than meaningful good music
overrated af
Holy Shit, she is only 28 and she looks like she was 45, she even has grey hair. She really needs to wear some makeup.
oomf i hope times have changed from this comment
