Heard her the first time today. My love for rock and roll has never died but it did just grow three times bigger this day.
Courtney Barnett has renewed my faith in the current state of music. A band that has been listening to the right records...Great band

What an amazing songwriter! simple tunes, yet amazingly catchy. And those lyrics are just genius. "A possum Jackson Pollock painted on the tar". Brilliant.

The tunes, the melodies, are quite simple. But then again, it's very difficult to make something simple and original, not obvious. The Beatles had many simple melodies which are masterpieces.
Don't get too excited, Sheryl crow was already sounding like this, nothing that original here..

She reminds me of Liz Phair sans the vulgar bent, the "look, I can cuss and sex-it-up like men" nonsense. Nothing against Liz; she was just trying too hard on those early albums--though I love them.
And it's other details... In her live performances she always keeps the mic stand just a tad higher so she has to rise up. Love that little stage presence quirk.
That rhythm section is so tight. Great backup singing too. 3 piece is the way to go with this act.

I admit I was late to the CB train, having only heard her first watching this exact episode of Conando in a hotel room last year. Definitely one of Conan's best musical guests since and for quite awhile before. I think because I hear it first live, I much prefer this performance to the album version.

I think it's just the sticker Danielle is talking about and how truck drivers have to travel long distances to 'bring us the best price' on food. It's a problem because they drive long distances without taking breaks and it's dangerous.
