Awesome. I just started working in a SNF and found most of the residents can also be on hiprex and vitamin C for recurrent UTI.
Yes I use those as well! Thanks for sharing for others to learn!

Can you please make a video on INR management. Thank you!
My culture came back as "Resident Flora" and a UA that had high nitrites and luekocytes but no blood. On my 3rd antibiotic and still haven't done a sensitivity on my bacteria
Great video..thanks for sharing 😊
No problem
Love this ☺️
Thanks for watching
Thank you for the information, unfortunately I took a urinalysis but I don’t understand it, may I email you about it?
Also please add a discussion for antibiotics and if patient is allergic to specific meds thank you de what you are doing
Yes, I will just need time 😊 Thanks for watching
Nice input!
Some little input, majority of the Nitrite Positive (qualitatively) are UTI due to bacteria; bacteria that are capable of fermenting/converting Nitrate to Nitrites like E.coli etc
Am glad
You are so right. I was about to comment on the same thing. The presence of nitrite makes u suspect E.coli or other enterococus bacteria.
What if just the top is purple? (Leukocytes)
What is the professional title of the person that analyzes human urine? Amazing video here. Very well done, and well thought out. Excellent progression of the topic(s).
Medical Laboratory Scientist
Hi, what if there's only positive in nitrates and blood and not LE?
what if the protein was trace is it a bad sign or normal
What if you have 75 leucytes but contonated with skin floral. Is there a chance of UTI?
Love your videos. I am to start in May in a SNF...could u make a video or either answer below what type of acute issues you see most often...and what do u usually get on calls for ? I am having a bit if anxiety about the acute aspect of the job as I don't feel we were trained for this....thanks!
Congratulations on your new role, a bit of anxiety is ok. You get calls for every and anything, pt fall in middle of the night, pt confused, pt not eating, weight loss all of it. Most acute stuff is change in mental status and this can be the result of many different things that you have to do work up for. UTI, PNA, dehydration. Best of luck to you
@@fromcnatonp thank you so much for ur encouragement 👍 💓
urinalysis test result H.A.D what does it means coz i don't understand this nurse she just tell me that i got no problem and went home without any medications but told her that i had an infection and now i feel som pains ( burning sensation )before and after urinating sometimes and my bladder is very painful sometimes too but she said there's nothing.
Would you still treat it if the patient has a negative test. Yet, symptomatic?
I just had a urine culture test and came back 2000 commensal flora what does that mean?
Is it possible for someone to have an uti for years? Im cleared for all stds, waiting on urinary cultures. But I've been having burning and pain in testicles, pain in pelvis, off and on for years!
Good explanation. I wanted to ask if the UTI always show positive for both leukocyte and nitrite. Do you need one of them positive to say that it might be UTI?
Positive nitrates is definitely UTI, with elevated levels of leukocytes I still treat the pt and send the urine for culture. You would also culture if the nitrate is positive to make sure the antibiotics that was given will treat the bacteria
What does it mean when Leukocyte is 1+ and bacteria is 1-9
Leukocytes seem to be measured as “ca cells/ul” (as noted on the dip stick keys). What does the “ca” stand for? Cancer??? Can these decrease without having cancer?
Not all bacteria change nitrate to nitrite in urine, it's some of enterobactreciae(GNR) which change that in urine and make detection of nitrite in urine biochemical(dipstick)
Analytes which indicates uti are
Protein + (where caused by presence of epithelial cells in urine)
Nitrite (which converted as i said first)
Leu where typically it is leucocytes esterase it is an enzyme produced by cellular membrane of granulocytes (wbc's -netrophils, eosinophils and basophils) where in urine indicates infection
Urinalysis it is a wide study which interpretation of results need interconection of each results
What is a Non-uropathogenic Gram positive organism
Can this test detect std and how will it show?
Did she just say “lab people” though? 😀
Watch out for those side effects. They can turn your world around
Are you truly a Nurse? I don't think. You can't be calling another Professional "Lab People".
Excellent!!! Thank you!!
