Feel like Connor might enjoy Scum's Wish. I quite liked how the main characters stumbled their way through their futile romances.
You're forgetting one thing though, it's that they are in high school
wait thats a show people like? i just thought it was a trash show. What about it is good, honestly asking?
@@DGSnowolf
I like it because it shows the far more tragic side of romance. Characters are grasping at straws, trying as best they can to both fight against and act on their urges, making regrettable mistakes in the heat of the moment, and failing even when they're doing what seems "right" to them. It's an oddly realistic story of inherently flawed characters that don't pretend to be anything other than human. Bizarrely I've seen a similar situation play out IRL, and those few people in real life shared similar mindsets and actions with those in the show. For me it highlights just how illogical and dumb we as humans can become when emotions get involved. As someone looking from the outside in, you can see that things are doomed to fail from the start, so it just seems dumb, but when I put myself in their shoes? I can honestly understand their struggle. They're desperate, driven by primal urges, and it's that ugly side of love and lust that very rarely sees the light of day, mainly because it's so painful to experience and watch. It's uncomfortable and you don't WANT to see it, but sometimes, in life, it's unavoidable. Honestly, I'm afraid to watch again as it was quite upsetting, but I'm glad I watched it to the end.
It's an ugly story, and it hurts. That's what I think is good.
So I should try to approach it as a study on human stupidity when it comes to romantic feelings and the pain that comes with it? Back when I watched it I couldn't find the entertainment value in it. It wasn't funny it wasn't overly emotional it was actually very cold, the characters aren't particulary deep at all, there is no real story just a premise. Maybe this is one of those things that hits you emotionally when you can empathize and I just couldn't cause I am too logically wired as a person to understand, which then didn't leave anything else for me to hold onto.@@tenaciousdnut

Everyone watch Nana. The definition of messy and tragic. And one of the best drama/romance/coming-of-age anime and manga ever.
Edit: I made this comment when I hadn't watched the entire video yet. And then Connor mentioned the 'demon lord', 'loveless marriage', 'the protagonist in a love triangle shouldn't be likable', 'depression' and 'everything goes wrong'. And omg he is literally describing Nana! I now definitely think this show would be right up his alley.
And they're not in high school!
@@Ash_Wen-li you’ve joined the dark side.
@@thomasffrench3639 😂 to be honest I don't care as long as it's good
@@Ash_Wen-liI had a feeling, I just find it really annoying that anime fans are obsessed with it. It’s not like adults are any more sane than teenagers either.
@@Ash_Wen-li Hi fellow yangwenli fan
I like both types, but I think I prefer western romance, as western has a lot more of personalities clashing and it’s more interesting. Although I feel that I like anime romance captures the feeling of being attracted to someone and just enjoying each others company. It’s not mutually exclusive because I’ve seen a lot of anime like that, but I think they each go for different things.
Yeah, from my experience of western and anime romance shows/movies, western romance focuses on the dramatization of romance, while anime romance focus on the dramatization of the feelings of romance. If that makes sense.
12:03 I totally agree with Garnt here, the reason I despise live action romance is because there are times when romances are portrayed in such an unrealistic way that it breaks my immersion but when the same thing happens in an anime it’s fine because there’s already that suspension of disbelief that naturally comes with a show being animated
Garnt's argument sounds like a massive cope to me lol. That suspension of disbelief comes from the show being an anime, not being animation necessarily. Anime watchers are just used to anime being anime. Animation as a medium is not an excuse to disregard mature storytelling in favor of wish fulfillment fantasies. Imo, shit is shit no matter what medium and we give anime too much slack for appeasing us.
You have to watch real good romance, i recommend a walk to remember, 500 days of summer, or flipped. Good romance movies doesn't really glorify romance, they just play with emotions.
That makes no sense if you think about it for more than two seconds.
@aR0ttenBANANA it sort of does. When you see two real people on screen you expect it to be grounded. So seeing them act in the incredibly unreasonable ways that romance have their characters act pops out to you twice over.
It just makes you think "Literally no human being in the history of humans just ACTS like this"
I van genuinely understand what they mean when they say they have a higher suspension of disbelief for anime than live action.
And I do agree. There is some shit that's just corny af in live action or genuinely so insane that the thought of them trying to portray it so realistically just makes it all jump out more. But conversely there is stuff that is so specific that trying to show it in animation without the minutia of movements or expressions wont work as well as with live action.
I agree there needs to be more conflict and even heartbreak in anime. Maybe the girl/guy on the cover ain't always the one.
Kuzu no Honkai was that anime. Highly recommend if you haven't watched it yet.
i dont think so. i think you should watch less hentai, do less drugs and be less psychopath..
Nana is definitely my favourite romance, it’s my second favourite anime/manga. It’s unfinished but the manga went on longer than the anime.
Is the manga complete? Or still ongoing?
@@TheZachary86 Hiatus, just lose hope at this point
The manga’s been on hiatus since 2009.
Even still, it’s a Top 3 romance/josei of all time. Even without Vol. 20 being animated. 😢
@@requiemforameme1what are the other 2 ? Just tryna get more romance / josei recs
Kare Kano (or His and Her Circumstances) is a pretty realistic portrayal of romance and some of the trials that come with it. Both of the characters, especially the guy, have pretty serious issues that make their relationship hard, but those same issues also bring them together. It's emotionally grounded in a way that I haven't seen other anime articulate. I think it's a must watch if you like 90s anime or romance anime or Gainax.
This is a good recommendation. This is one of the first romance anime I watched when I was younger and I still go back to it. ❤

Garnt and the Uncanny Valley of Live-Action Romance.
Which is low key pretty dumb, but people have preferences.
1:41 Totally agree on that. „Weathering with you“ is my favourite Makoto Shinksi movie. But honestly all of them are very good. Like yea you could blame him for making very similar movies but all of them are good after all.
Personal problem and metaproblem with romance anime that there are two paths:
a) its unrealistically ideal.
The whole story is about edging and blueballing the audience for a confession and the whole show is just "get a room with your unconditional platonic love already"
Japan has a horrible time with relationships in real life, and even westerners face a sort of similar problem. Couples brake up fast, because in real life there will be problems that MUST be talked about, but instead the couples thoughts will be:
"oh... this is not what Ive learned, so we arent a match, I must find my partner instead of whoever I am with now..."
But in Japan they don't even turn into a couple, because even the confession is on a high pedestal.
b) we go straight (?) lewd, ntr, one night stand hentai without commitment.
And we have a massive gaping void between the two.
There is a reason people LOVE Hornymiya. Because they are a sort of disfunctional couple, and the drama is between them, not "a world against their confession" trial.
Recently I got more hooked to Korean romance webtoons, because their cliches are so refreshing after decades of anime tropes. Their teasing feels... "humane" is the right word?
Using "edging" to explain something is crazy

500 days of summer is one of if not my favorite romance.

Connor mentioning Nana without knowing it is funny as hell :D
there is a movie about the unowns with Entei. But there is also what was either an ova or just a really whacky crazy episode with unowns, a larvitar, and a slowking that at some point becomes gigantic. I only watched it once as a kid, but I can still remember it.
I agree with Garnt that the fantastical elements of Suzume were the highlight ot the movie. It reminded me of Shinkai's earlier work in Children Who Chase Lost Voices.
Aggretsuko seems pretty straight up about romance and life in general..
Oh spoke too soon haha 🙏
The problem trope with anime romance is that it talks down to the audience a lot of the times. Like Garnt said, "it's animated, so it's a fantasy escape. suspend your disbelief." There's a lot of junk out there because it is precisely a medium for cotton-candy wish-fufillment, but there's some really good stuff, and a lot of it was in the 80's.
Like as Conor was mentioning, anime love triangles aren't great if there aren't built on anything substantive, but that's basically almost every Mitsuru Adachi series... to a fault often. Although I think the concept of "Miyuki" was clunky and would be cringe today, it was built around a clever triangle where the three people are all trying to considering the best interests of the other people instead of just taking what they want. Or the immortal baseball series "Tough" where the person in the way isn't even there at all but their presence is felt the whole series through. Or the first "Kimagure Orange Road" movie... take the silly rom-com love "triangle" from the series and holy hell, break it apart in the most agonizing way possible.
But as always, the gold standard is Maison Ikkoku. It's not really a love triangle because you know that the focus is on the two main characters, but the tension is maintained as the story progresses over the course of four years, and you get to see how not only the relations progress but how the individual people do as well. There will never been another series like it, it absolutely most be mentioned every time the topic of anime rom-coms comes up.

I remember this comment that I found decades ago about western & jp game dev that somehow can be applied in many media
western dev : makes game as close as possible to reality
jp dev : makes game far away as possible from reality
and this could apply in lot of stuff
While not completely untrue, I find that it goes in waves quite a bit. It's not exclusive to either regions.
Something about Weathering with You and even Suzume that didn't resonate with me as much as Your Name. In Weathering I felt the male mc was almost insufferable and immature even for someone his age. In Suzume the romance felt shoehorned and I didn't feel compelled nor invested in whether the mcs would become a couple or not.
Maybe...watch some of the older stuff. People mentioned NANA, but there was also Bokura ga Ita, the two Ef titles from SHAFT, of course Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata, or Hana yori Dango.
If they're only going to watch the popular stuff or Jump series, of course they won't think the messy romances exist.
Nana and Paradise Kiss are my fav and they are made by the same author Ai Yazawa
If you want a mature romance anime, watch Bloom Into You.
It's a interesting series but not sure if mature is the word, one girl is lesbian and the other seems asexual
@@neociber24 why would that make it a non mature romance anime?
I really wish more people would give Bloom Into You a shot. It just has such a unique approach to a love story and it's so much more than just a romance at the same time. It's just so beautiful 😭
@bidulus1 Read the manga last year. Love what I read, but dear Lord, do I desperately wish for a S2.
@@CrimsonCharan It's actually a crime that they thought they could just do the first season and stop there lol. Same for the Sayaka novels, even if they aren't on the same level as the manga I'd love seeing those animated
Most of, if not all of Shinkai films are more emotionally driven rather than narrative focused.
Like yeah, Shinkai really likes to make twist and turns when it comes to his characters, plots and environmental storytelling. But tbh, the stories are all melodramatic for the sake of keeping the audience engaged emotionally from its visuals rather than what the movies telling you through dialouge.
And it also helps that his beautiful backgrounds (aka every anime background wallpaper) really does captivate the audience and pulls a certain emotion from them when seeing it.
Dont get me wrong, I'm a big Shinkai fan, even before Your Name came out. and all of his movies do fall under the same genre of films that are excessive/theatrical emotionally charged works.
"i want problems to be coming from them and exploring the intricacies of their relationship without all the extra blood shit" - bro just described white album 2 yet they were shitting on minutes prior
We need more Scums Wish
Peach girl and Boys Over Flowers are messy af. It’s the manga/ anime version of 90210 😂
Dude, Peach Girl is a rollercoaster and sooo messy 😂😂😂
Shinkai wasn't planning to make Suzume a traditional romance. Souta was supposed to be a girl. That was given a no, and he made Souta a chair for most of the movie. Suzume is definitely my least favorite of Shinkai but it was still good.
The Channing Tatum "Notebook" variation was Dear John (which had a sadish ending). Same author, and he usually has kind of sad endings.
Yeah, definitely, Suzume is perhaps the weakest Makoto Shinkai film, but it's still enjoyable regardless. Hopefully his next film will be better.
I don't watch romance anime because I can't relate, and it makes me feel bad because it feels like I'm missing out.
The only romance I would recommend is Kaguya sama love is war. It's actually good and develops it's characters really well.
Oyasumi Punpun, flowers of evil, scum’s wish, boy’s abyss, nana, welcome to the NHK, etc. (these are not all of equal quality). There are a ton of romance manga that describe the situations Connor is describing
My favorite Shinkai still is Garden of Words. Especially as a young adult entering the job market, I relate to the teacher character (career doubts, feeling kind of stuck) and wish I was the student character (someone who has figured out their passion). Minus the weird romance, that was sus as fuq.
Garnt has finally explained why it's so hard for me to get invested in live actors, they feel too fake because you can tell they're just actors, suspension of disbelief and exaggerated emotions make it so much easier to connect to and understand animated characters
Go outside and please talk to actual people
Seriously bruh, this take ain't make any sense.
@@adi-qx8ls when you see a live actor you know it's just an actor, with an animated character the focus is put on the character not the invisible actor behind it
@@TommySkywalker11Conversely you can say, “it’s animated, so I know none of this is real and won’t matter”. Regardless both are fictional.
Suspension of disbelief has never had to do with the emotional core or metaphysical aspect of works but the mechanics instead. you need to go outside
I think the Channing Tatum movie that Connor was talking about is the Vow, which is a film about a girl getting into an accident and she forgets who her husband is, and so he has to help her fall in love with him again. Kind of similar to the Notebook in some ways, so I can see how he'd get confused, but yeah... Not the same film at all.
My favorite romance is Groundhog Day. Philosophically compelling, emotionally resonant, and balances lighthearted humor and dark humor without ever feeling tonally confused
I loved Suzume but yeah, I agree about the romance aspect of it being kind of weak.
it’s not a romance though? she has a crush on souta but that is never reciprocated nor is it ever the focus of the film, i think viewing suzume as a romance movie does its storytelling a massive disservice tbh. it’s an adventure movie, and the main thematic focus is about moving on and growing up rather than on anything romance related.
@@nikua_ I totally agree with you. I'm not saying Suzume is a romance I don't think it is. But, at the same time a big part of growing up is experiencing your first crush and Suzume's attraction towards Souta is a big part of the movie. Even though it isn't the main theme of the movie it could have been developed or fleshed out a little more that's all I'm saying
@@nikua_Where was all this theming around moving on and growing up? I genuinely don’t see any of it. That’s probably part of why I despised the movie. It was beyond boring with relationships that felt forced and uninteresting. The plot also felt rather repetitive going on two separate journeys after one problem was already finished. No stand out animation or music, but a cool concept. I didn’t find the protagonist or her guy friend compelling though on their own. I couldn’t even tell you their arcs since I mentally disengaged.
@@CodeTetsu were you not paying attention? her mother was lost in the 2011 earthquake and was never recovered, suzume never had closure. the entire movie, she’s traveling back to her childhood home, hoping for answers but coming to terms with the truth. she grows up and communicates this feeling to her younger self. all the abandoned locations, all the memories that are lost, the way they have to imagine those who were once there to close the door. closing the door is to achieve closure. to move on, but still keeping their memory alive.
@@nikua_This is just incorrect. They didn’t go back to the original home until they had to retrieve the boy after his sort of sacrifice to be the keystone. So they had a journey that was completely unrelated to the theme, and then the second journey was what gave her the closure. But her wanting to go back for him and go on yet another journey felt tedious and it was for a guy she barely knew. This isn’t even taking into account the random need to include an extra friend to use his car. How she was able to talk to her past self and then have the memory loss for this infinite loop, we don’t know and makes no sense. There was no need for any sort of time travel shenanigans for this plot at all. And her past self forgets anyways so this sort of symbolism is rather hollow and doesn’t mean anything. It’s there for the sake of it.
If you cut almost the first half of the movie and had it just be a special where she goes to her home and reaches closure then it would be way better. The dude she meets is also completely superfluous to her journey and the fate of the world element is silly. This movie was a slog to get through with no real redeeming qualities. It looked okay, no memorable music, a repetitive feeling to the journey, and a nonsensical addition to the plot. You can think the message is pretty if you want, but personally I don’t find the writing all that strong or intriguing. I think her talking to her new mother was probably one of the better scenes I remember and was probably the only thing I loved.
Side note since I didn’t see it mentioned. The movie they were talking about Channing Tatum is the Vow
I mean I thought yesterday wo utatte did a good job at like capturing the "realistic part of romance"
White album 2
Imagine school life, but it's actually good. None of the characters are bad people, they really like each other romantically and platonically, but they are absolute idiots about handling romance and end scarring each other because of it.
The tsundere literally gets called out for being a tsundere because how the hell is the guy supposed to know his feelings are reciprocated? the cutesy girl fucks their trio dynamic by confessing first because she's afraid of being left out, the guy tip toes around the other 2 to keep their relationship the way it is and ends up cheating as a result because he REALLY likes the tsundere.
Raw and effective with an ending that leaves every party scarred including yourself. It's the moment you pick up the visual novel to read the remaining 80% of the story.
As far as realistic romance with realistic character and fuck ups white album 2 is goated. The actual best love triangle dynamic imo
After the rain
Not actually a romance, it's an unrealistic crush and is treated maturely by the show. the underlying romance is a tool to explore the main duo and find what they actually need. Really refreshing and nice even though the premise of a high schooler crushing hardcore on a salary man with a kid would suggest otherwise.
Tsuki ga kirei
Only actual romance of the 3 i cited, it is a realistic romance anime on first love. Very fluffy and slow burn (the plot advances very quickly unlike many other romance anime out there though), bland even you could say, nothing spectacular or over the top drama.
Garnt needs to rewatch golden time. I used to think it was peak romance when it aired - but upon revisiting it much later I started to realise how terrible Koko and Banri are as people. They are both owners of some very shitty character traits in which accumulates in what a functioning person would identify as a toxic relationship.
for me, Shinkai's Ghiblie attempted is Children Who Chase Lost Voices. romance movie, sense and sensiblility.
A thing I like about Makoto Shinkai and explains a lot of his faults is that he’s not a trained animator or story teller. He’s a video game developer that self taught himself how to make anime so he’s slowly gets more refined each project.
Like even when you rewatch Your Name you see a lot of things that should be cut or the love story being underdeveloped.
Suzume to me is him finally nailing the narrative, but still struggling with the romance aspect.

garnt is literally me omg
I personally loved Suzume. It is in my top 5 movies of the last year. I also don't think it is, at least primarly, a romance. I think it deals more with a loss of a loved one (Suzume's mother), the mythological aspect & the aftermath of the 2011 earthquake aspect. I don't think there is even an actual romance since it's just Suzume having a crush on Souta.
Suzume was supposed to be a romance but shinkai thought Eh been there done that I don't care if my fans want more of that I wanna to other things and decided to make a ghibli film
You can see a Makoto Shinkai movie coming from miles away. And I kinda agree with Grant with his views on Shinkais movies. He has certain motifs you'll find in every movie; a mess of train tracks, a beautiful shot of sunrise and others I can't remember for the life of me but my point stands that he makes a very particular style of movie which feels emotional regardless of the plot. I don't wanna get technical with plot or the lack there of and what not but hear me out, Just watch his movies with no expectations and you'll find yourself weeping by the end. So yea if you want depression watch his movies
P.S. I feel like my views are way too similar to his as 12:07. I stopped watching western romance shows coz they just feel completely unrealistic but depicted by real actors which just makes it iffy. Whereas for Anime, ik it's unrealistic but it's also in an unrealistic world so anything is possible
Try watching Blue Valentine and see if you will still feel the same way,it's a messy romance movie.
@@mjjjuly I'll give it a watch and get back to you
But that makes no sense because suspension of disbelief is relative to the mechanics of a fictional world, not the metaphysical aspects of it.
oyasumi punpun: *allow me to introduce myself*
I'm just tired of romance based stories where the over-arching plot line is the protagonist character(s) *in the process* of trying to get together or being in the early stage of a relationship and you get all the miscommunication mishaps, or worse, the will they won't they trope. I don't mind complicated love stories with established characters but I'd love to see more of positive well established relationships where the conflicts are surrounding the supporting cast, the outer environment etc. and the relationship itself is fine. Maybe exploring how the couple handles challenge together in a healthy way. idk I like being able to be happy for the characters I'm getting attached to rather than constantly wondering if they actually like each other or if they will be happy (unless it's really obviously a show where I wouldn't expect that).
I'm kind of with Connor on this one, although some anime romance is good for a bit of escapism. I really think he should try watching Richard Linklater's Before trilogy. Such a realistic portrayal of a relationship evolving over time
Did we forget about City of Angels? That ending
Maybe he could try How Do We Relationship? it's a manga tho and it revolves around college students... adults basically?
But why did none of them mention Garden of Words? And the light novel that followed was INFINITELY more intense once you see behind all the curtains and inside the heads of all the characters.
This channel is how i know about newer stuff im a surface layer fan im only watching 1 atm (undead unluck) i read the manga years ago and ive been loving it so far.
You want a love triangle? White Album 2
Messy romance I can think of?
Rumbling Hearts
I dug the way that "Sing Yesterday For Me" dealt with its central romance/love triangle.
Suzume is great. It's my 2nd favourite Shinkai film behind Your Name.
But why? I personally don’t understand what’s supposed to be good about it
what is remembered about Voice of a distant Star is that he made it himself on his computer
there is a parody about the game Goodbye Volcano High called Snoot Game. visual light novel game, its a living in real life simulator with the expectation of dinosaur people and 4 different endings. A must play personally
If you want problems stemming from a love triangle white album 2 is a perfect example of that
The real problem is that Connor's rules are childish and he is missing out for two reasons:
1. He won't accept highschool romance, even though it can be actually meaningful and profound anime and manga like Scum's wish, Ichigo 100% and Bloom into you.
2. He won't read manga, where the majority of good dramatic and mature romance is. Connor would go crazy reading Inio Asano.
Connor is literally describing the plot of the TV show you're the worst. If he's looking for a movie that does a realistic love triangle he should watch past lives
Look... I just want a romance where they get together in episode 3 like in Chivalry of a Failed Knight. I'm tired of animes ending when them not getting together or they only get one kiss in the last episode
Check out Horimiya, they get together pretty early

So basically connor wants to read NTR hentai, a messy relationship and a loveless marriage.
Best strawman doesn't exist:
Voice of a Distant Star was made as an amateur project. How the f does Joey not know this? He wrote it himself, made everything but the soundtrack and voice overs himself. The fact they don’t factor that in is criminal.
I personally prefer anime romance (It’s my fav genre.) I think part of that is because with real actors well, obviously you might recognise them from other movies right? And I kind of can’t get into it because of that, whereas with anime these characters are all unique for every series and brand new. Yeah, some may look identical to another series but they are still COMPLETELY different people.
Now that I think about it, Connor is kinda spitting facts.
On the other hand, I get what Garnt is saying at the end with the higher suspension of disbelief in anime.

tbh I don't really get the complaint about 5 centimetres per second not having a plot. (Obviously it does but) The idea that the plot is 'weak' or 'bad' because there is not necessarily a lot happening in the moment seems really bizarre. A plot is bad if it is difficult to follow, this is definitely not the case with 5 centimetres per second. The purpose of a plot is to allow the creators to explore the ideas and evoke the emotions that they want to. The plots of 5cps do this well; there is no reason at all to complain about them imo.
If he wants an unhappy triangle he needs to watch Chihayafuru
this vid made me realised why i liked the general vibe of Uchiage Hanabi so much but the actual movie itself was such a sleeper. I liked the music, the atmosphere, and the general emotion it was trying to convey but the movie was so boring and there was no plot like at all
Shinkai just knows what makes a story popular and has really shaped all his movies to cater to what appeals to popular mainstream audiences. It’s a formula which is why all his films feel the same.
prime example of romance going horribly wrong 500 days of summer and blue valentine. both phenomenal films and also super sad
Rumbling hearts is very messy, kinda old but still decent. Although I would rather play the visual novel whenever it gets translated to English.
Nana is actually a great show to watch and since they keep mentioning golden time because they're college students well nana is as well a college student
Someone should go tell Connor to watch Paradise Kiss

If you want the romance that goes bad, you are looking for Blue Valentine
The Garden of Words is no.1 it’s plenty messy if you ask me because it’s not about a traditional romance.
The Notebook with Channing Tatum lmao
Does school days count as a love triangle? 💀
I guess but in the VN you can go out with different girls so Love Hexagon?
Try out white album 2, imagine school life but without about a bunch of deranged teens.
It's literally just a better, more palatable version of school days with characters who make bad decision not because they're idiots, rotten or petty, but because they have feelings and that's too much for them to handle rationally.
@@pougetguillaume4632 im currently playing School Days HQ and now i am interested in White Album2. i plan to buy it once i get every ending in school days HQ
I liked all of the makoto shinkai movies. But suzume struck me as a littlw bit wierd.
Dont get me wrong, in his movies as joey said its more or less always about that collection of emptions.
But neither in your name or in weathering with you its explicitly STATED that its about love and everything. Like obviously it is, but it wasnt like "look at me, its a romance movie!".
Ans then in suzume, at least in the german version there is a scene where she says something like "i dont fear this. I fesr a world without him and want to do everything to save him!". And somehow that wierded me out more than it probably should have. Simply because of the way its stated.
I can't wait for 'Raise wa tanin ga II' anime .... the couple there is so messy and incredibly refreshing to see hhehehe
To be quite honest watching Connor and Joey giving their opinions about Shinkai Makoto films, I can understand japanese people not liking this podcast.
They have trash taste, amirite.
@@OskarXCI I mean you don’t have to like the films, but to disrespect an amazing director by saying he only does the same movie time and time again it’s totally out of place. It proves that maybe they are indeed too old for anime
@@JajajaaIt’s not out of place at all. If it feels repetitive then it feel repetitive. What else are you supposed to say? You think they’re great and varied, but others don’t have to. They aren’t threatening him or saying he should quit, they just don’t like his formula.
Conner would get a kick out of Blue Valentine then. The whole movie is the downward spiral and eventual breaking out a couple’s marriage. It’s very messy and not happy at all. Right up his alley.
I'm commenting before I even watched the video however I can't help but feel that the title is just explaining school days
I'm the basic bitch who likes Toradora and Chuunibyou
Fun fact: Shinkai actually didnt want to add the romance the higher ups made him do it.
Bloom into you and Kase San are my favourite romance anime/manga and that's probably cause I have a soft spot for yuri lol
Voice of a distant star now there's a name i completely forgot, I've got it on DVD, or to be more specific it was an extra of this Anime series i bought, there's a reason i forgot about it, up to that point I'd never seen tragedy Anime, bought this girl is a mecha series (forgot the name) expected girl get's used to having mechanical parts, instead death left, right and center, saw Voice of a distant star included, more tragedy, gah thanks guys for that trip down memory lane, i wanna forget again.
As an avid romance anime watcher, we definitely need less of the tropes. Also, I kind of agree with Garnt about real actors giving suspension of belief or whatever, but I’m more in between with Joey.
How I met your mother is an American sitcom but is a great romance for Connor considering the ending.
After rewatching it last year I noticed they were foreshadowing mothers death early as season 1. I personally never had a problem with mothers dead and though it was nicely done bittersweet ending. Getting back togehter with Robin was a mistake though.
@@Jepze158 Yeah. Him going back to Robin and Robin and Barney being divorced was a really bad decision on the writers part. Also Tracy being barely in the last season sucked. We should have seen her more in the show.
I think net ju no susume give an interesting view on romance
always love connor's takes
Sounds like a skill issue, Connor. /s
Kidding aside, I personally love both anime and Western romances. I mean, I have watched a decent amount of romance dramas and romcoms from both sides. (Though a lot of recent Western romcoms are just meh to me with a few exceptions)
I just simply love the romance genre. The times when I do dislike a romance anime or movie/series depends on whether I liked it or not.
Hell yeah, I love The Notebook, glad someone put some respect on its name.
A Walk to Remember was better than the Notebook
Also, Garnt is 100% right about Golden Time.
Shinkai wanted to tell a love story between 2 girls in suzume. But the publishers were against it. Therefore he lost interest in the love story part of the movie.
I wonder what Connor thinks of Kimi ga Nozomu Eien/Rumbling Hearts...
