    My main issue is I don't feel like they give these bosses enough HP. Apparently people are skipping or almost skipping mechanics week 1? That should never happen. The HP issue I know has been a criticism since Aglaia too, so either that feedback somehow just never reached the devs or they disagree with the criticism for some odd reason. Outside of that, I would have liked Oschon to get his own theme. I know Soken is probably busy with Dawntrail music, but Oschon should not have had the same generic theme the first 2 bosses had.

      This was a reversal from Yoko Taro pitching a fit because the Neir alliance raids were skipping all the mechanics, like the first one should be quicker to plow through, but they added a bunch of HP because of him. Now its like they went the opposite direction. Fully unimpressed with the last boss here, though. Also was thoroughly unimpressed with the last raid boss, was expecting more and they didn't deliver with Athena, I think I would have liked it better if there was a boss that actually summoned gods individually, the amalgamation boss was mid at best.

      SE started leaning into pre-designing content early since stormblood, so the feedback for things like eureka, criterion, or alliance raids doesn't actually get implemented until the 3rd installment of them
      I guess for this one they thought the difficulty was fine

  • @ExiaLupus
    @ExiaLupus Год назад +45

    Didn't Nier have several three party splits, at least in the first two raids? I thought those were pretty good.
    This alliance raid series however only has one occasion where the groups are encouraged to split, that being one of Halone's mechanics in Euphrosyne.

    • @Soliwre
      @Soliwre Год назад +3

      Second boss of Copied Factory has a raid split that functionally just means groups can't Raise each other while doing slightly different mechanics. I'm not sure what happens if a group wipes on their platform.
      First boss of Puppet's Bunker has each group kind of doing their own thing, but there's not really anything you can mess up that affects other groups other than full wiping and having stack AoEs drop on other groups.
      Second boss of Puppet's Bunker has the raid split between three bosses with lasers you can aim at other groups if you're feeling like a little mid raid PvP.
      Third boss of Paradigm's Breach has groups split up for that little hacking mini-fight.
      But yeah, I think he means stuff like Thunder God's Dusk Blade where if each group doesn't do their thing it can wipe everyone? So everyone, or at least 6/8 of each group, has to be competent to clear.

    One thing I surely noticed, is that the theme when fighting the last boss of the 24 man raid, is a leitmotif of the EW's 8 man raid. I think it was Pandæmonium where you fight the warden. Given on what was revealed by the end of the raid, and if you did the optional sidequests in Elpis, the music is thematically on point, problem is, not a lot of people caught that probably, so that's maybe the reason why it did not "hit" people.

    • @Gee-xb7rt
      @Gee-xb7rt Год назад +6

      Soken does leitmotif really well, but I don't think it made end boss here, the whole end boss design was meh. I would have preferred them summon gods individually, maybe two or three at a time. That would have felt more like an end boss. Athena didn't fell like end boss either, so oh well.

      This is the first comment I emphatically disagree with. First off, it's thematic for them to recycle the other mechanics, since it's literally all 12 bosses combined into one entity. But they combined the mechanics so that you'd have to do 2 at once most times, which makes for a unique challenge. It's basically asking you to remember what each mechanic did while also worrying about anoither mechanic at the same time. It also has a new mechanic in the form of lining up several donut/cleave AoEs and forcing you to memorize what order they come out in.

    I also had a more minor gripe on the visual standpoint: why are almost all of the Twelve just "regular humans"? Nald'thal was the only one that felt like he had a really creative design, and then the rest were pretty bog-standard. Personally, I found the last two raids, Euphrosyne and Thalia, to be relatively uninspiring in terms of mechanics.
    They seemed to rely heavily on visuals, and even the progression inside Thalia felt odd.
    Between the 1st boss and the 3rd boss, you only walk a few meters through these small areas with nothing but visuals.
    I found the overall progression of the Thalia raid to be the most unevenly designed I've ever seen.
    Even the final boss is just a recycling of the 3D skeleton from Eden 12, and they haven't done anything better in terms of design; it feels like they simply copied the conceptual design from the E12 fight.
    Ultima the High Seraph had a similar system in phase 1, but the rest of the fight was unique.
    Here, nothing feels unique; it's all recycled. Most of the mechanics feel tired, and the developers have cluttered the screen with unnecessary icons and directional arrows, making it seem like they think we're children who need hand-holding to cross the street.
    I'm sorry, but this raid design was subpar.
    The mechanics rarely lead to any challenging moments, and from a mechanical perspective, it was all just recycling.
    If the game continues with this excessive recycling and imperceptible difficulty, it will become increasingly mediocre, even though it's not mediocre yet (but it's heading in that direction).

    Tbh, I was really looking forward to this Araid, and while the first two fights were pretty good, the third and last fight were pretty mid. Though, honestly, all of Endwalker has felt pretty mid and more like a placeholder/filler expansion, then a full expansion like Heavensward, Stormsblood, and Shadowbringers. 6.0 story was pretty good, though it was a bit slow getting going, but it finished off pretty well, however, then we get into the patch story and it quickly became a snoozefest. Plus, no EX trial questline like the Warring Triad, relic wep is just a tome weapon, raid tier is pretty mid, criterion was kind of a bust, no exploratory zone like Eureka, and while the Araid started off decently strong, it did finish on a pretty mid note. I'm praying that the reason Endwalker has felt this way was because of FF16 and because they are going all out on 7.0, I know that is major copium, but I can dream lol.

      It's not major copium, it's a logical conclusion to reach. Remember, EW was delayed for a while because of both Covid and FF16 development (there was a significant content drought at the end of ShB, FF only saw healthy numbers because of WoW refugees), and we know that FF16 development started around StB. The team was split to the detriment of both games, even with getting outside help from other studios, FF16 also ended up being delayed. Most criticisms about EW are fair though, and I agree with this last alliance tier specifically.
      They shouldn't have that probably with Dawntrail, but we'll see if they deliver. Personally I still have content to do since I unsubbed after EW initial launch, and only recently subbed back.

    I don't think there is anything wrong with the Myths of the Realm alliance raids, specifically Thaleia. I think the content repetition and subsequent content drought (which most people aren't even affected by, but they just like to repeat the opinions of their favorite streamers that have played for years) is exaggerating the minor issues with this raid and is giving content creators a free video idea that causes mild drama and gets them a ton of views (Good for them, make that bread)
    People whine and moan about the lack of difficulty in this alliance raid and compare it to other Araids difficulty and mechs and I'm just wondering, what difficulty are you expecting in an instance with 24 fucking people in it, usually more than half being able to revive other players and damage the boss away from mechanics. Most other Araids have entirely too many add rooms were you just mindlessly kill mobs and sigh until you make it to the next boss. The multi-alliance mechs have never been that interesting to me and I find it more fun to just have all 24 players going up against some thematic, huge boss like a fight straight out of an anime.
    I've seen people talk about the nier raid mechs in this comment section and the splitting up parts of it, but it's literally just a small group of players doing a brain dead rotation on a miniboss that hits the tank like a wet noodle and does pathetic aoes or an occasional stack marker. The music carries the nier raid series because there is nothing mechanically going on during these fights. The final nier raid is probably one of the best araids in the game, don't get me wrong, but Puppets Bunker and Copied Factory are worse than what the Myths of the Realm raids are being accused of.
    Araids are not the place for a challenge, if you want to experience difficult content there is plenty to choose from. There's not a single challenging araid in this game and that's fine, it's literally normal mode content.
    To me these fights are all about the story and they lose an immense amount of value when you take that away. The gods playfully challenging you to a fight, indulging in their chance to enjoy a fight with THE hero and their allies is a great story, even more so when you find out what they've been plotting beyond wanting to fight and secrets that have long since been hidden to us like the Watcher.
    FFXIV brain rot has kicked into overdrive with the community because we've had so many amazing vocal songs this expac that people can't appreciate the few instrumental themes that are truly stellar. The Flamenco-esque theme of Thaleia matches the energy of the other two raid themes wonderfully and makes me feel like I'm in some grand combat festival. Eulogia's theme is a beautiful ending for the story. No crazy vocals, just a bittersweet requiem for the gods as they spend their last moments as corporeal entities battling their beloved children before giving their lifeforce back to the world and being able to return to the lifestream to see their own loved ones once more.
    TLDR: 90% of yall don't even do hard content so why does it matter if the Araid isn't difficult. It's about the theatrics and the story, not about making you worry about reaction time or causing a body check snowball into a wipe. Go do extremes, unreals, savage and ultimates if you want something mechanically challenging. Just have fun and fight a god for the 12th time today.

He's right the raids look like that had alot of work put into visuals and theme but that's it. The mechanics are same cookie cutter bullshit we've gotten all expansion. It's just not fun to have a clear handed to you on a silver platter there's not been a single bit of engaging mid level or below content in this game the entire expansion. No one is ask them to give us ultimate in alliance raid form, we si.ply would just like to use 1 of the 2 braincells we have left to actually try. And if you hit me with well it was hard for me idk what to tell you I feel asleep during parts of the raid and still didn't die cause nothing threatened you which is crazy considering these are quite literally our governing gods of land and creation but if you like the way the game is now good for you I guess your opinions is the only one that matters 🤔

      You just said if people want a challenge , there’s plenty of content to choose from. No , there isn’t lmao. If you can’t see how bad this alliance design is, maybe you are the kind of person they make it for. Do mint get me wrong , soken always delivers, and the art /design team always delivers, but really need to step it up, it’s like they designed the fight for toddlers. There’s no deviation from any patterns, everything is the exact same EVERY TIME . Then what’s worse, they made the item lvl requirement 625, and I feel like they designed the whole fight around people who are ilvl625 who Re just going to mash buttons. You say to just enjoy the fight and have fun , HOW?? The majority of the people who are complaining are able to spot the design elements and their flaws, any other person can’t see past the visual flare. The coolest and most interesting fight was the water goddess, her arena her deism was so breathtaking , but man, they give you like a whole 15 seconds to react to mechanics. Then when her serpents come out, she does the exact same pattern with the snake cleaves every- single-time , no mixing it up. If you don’t see a problem with this , then you are the problem.

    Ivalice is easily the best alliance raid, although Final Fantasy Tactics was my favorite FF game, so I'm sure there's a bias. That said, the EW alliance raid was probably my second favorite series as a whole. Not because they did anything special, or particularly raised the bar. I just hated Crystal Tower, Void Ark, and Nier. A lot. I wasn't impressed or blown away by anything in this newest wing of the raid, but if it comes up in a roulette in an expansion or two, I'm not going to be upset about it like I am with the other 3.
    That said, I also kind of hope for more from the game in general, and EW has felt like a pretty big letdown. I know they're afraid of making things too hard for casuals, but at some point you have to ask people to do SOMETHING, or the vast majority of the game will become so boring it'll kill itself with kindness.

  • @VideogamesPang

    I used to love doing Alliance Raids day 1, all the chaos and wipes as everyone learns the mechanics together. Myths is so easy that you no longer wipe even day 1 on a full blind run. Yeah, it's a pretty raid, but that doesn't make it fun, especially when you go back for repeat runs. I avoid doing these raids as much as possible because they are SO fucking BORING.
    It is even more boring than dungeons because your contribution is so tiny and there is no risk of failure because there's 6 healers. When people were doing old raids for moogle tomes before the patch, doing Dun Scaith or Orbonne or even Paradigm's Breach, the quality in fight design is like night and day between Myths raids. It's not just Thaleia, they are all super weak and dull. Aglaia was okay at first but has been ruined by overgearing.
    When I try to talk to people about this they all either insist that Alliance Raids have always been like this, or they say that it's better like this because it's faster and less effort. That's so fucking sad that people see content in this game as just a chore and not meant to be fun, or are happy to overlook boring gameplay for pretty visuals.
    TBH if content continues like this I feel like I might quit. I don't want to play a game where I actively avoid doing the daily content because it's all so soul crushingly boring.

    I disagree on Yorha not having party mechanics, but I'll only argue that the party mechanics was hidden inside stage mechanics. Copied factory had the split stage fight with all 3 parties dealing with different floor mechanics. Puppets Bunker had the mech fight split where you could murder the other alliance with a laser. Paradigms Breach had....hacking pew pew, right? So there was still an essence of that then, but there was no heavy mechanics based on alliance, which was very disappointing. However, the challenge of some of the fights made it entertaining at least. Red dress, Hanz and Gret, couple others. I think Yorha was mainly fun for Nier fans, but it wasn't memorable.
    But Myths of the Realm has steadily gotten worse for me, out of the whole Azeyma, Nald'Thal, Halone are the only engaging fights, and none of them had party mechanics, the fights were just fun.
    Meanwhile, Ivalice and even Shadow of Mhach had several fights where the party was dragged into different dimension to handle mechanics or split up on different sections of the platforms to stand on a button that conjured a shield.
    Like 24 mans aren't punishing nor engaging anymore, and I think thats the biggest issue.

    People upset that the last boss uses mechanics from all the twelve is why story skippers shouldn't have opinions on the game design. It would be way lamer if it didn't.
    Overall I do think the raid is still too tame, but its much better than Aglaia and Euphrosyne. I don't necessarily want to wipe in alliance raids, but there's a sweet spot where you can have engaging mechanics without risk of everyone dying and have to do a fight over again. Punishments for failing mechanics could be more stuff like bleeds or cleansable debuffs so that healers can get more things to do, status effects like confusion, sleep, stun, knockbacks, stuff that causes you to lose uptime without actually killing you can still feel bad, and imo even feels worse than just getting a vuln stack. Especially if you're a tank when you can take 2 or 3 vulns before you start to feel anything.
    Also nothing like Ozma or Cid is a major bummer. I thought Puppet's Bunker "fixed" issues with this style of fight by forcing alliances to separate at the start, dunno why they didn't try to do something like that.

    Normally I agree but I've never disagreed so much.
    First, what is he talking about with a-raids having party mechs? Standing on separate platforms? 3 different stacks? Killing adds? I'm confused with this whole concept. Nier had multiple battles where you were separated by party, hell PB had 2 of em. I'm so confused on this concept and how it makes things so better when I'm still trying to figure out what party mechs existed in ivalice, void ark and CT.
    Second, for me I do not understand how having "party" mechs which make 0 sense in the first place, make the fights better? I don't see how having to fight the 3 different pillars in halone makes the fight better. I don't see how standing on three different platforms changes the fight so drastically that it makes it good. I'm not following how these things magically make alliance raids have this essence that does a 180° on how the game and fight feels.
    Third, Ivalice felt like shit to me so to say it was the best raid series blows my mind. You have bosses that have a 3 minute long add phase for the first boss and that's it. You have bosses you can't even tank and randomly throw you up in the air while taking no damage. So many NON party mechs that one person can just kill the whole party (Clock boss), the list goes on. Orbonne was great but the other two? Idk, shit just seems weird.

      Not only with FF16, but Yoshi-P has decided to hand over FF14 to news developers with a fresh perspective.
      All 24-man raids from The Twelve have been designed solely by these new developers, as well as all the trials, and it's quite evident.
      Honestly, it's downright mediocre.
      Especially since Yoshi-P clearly believes that the game's future lies in a brainless simplification of the gameplay.
      Look at the difficulty of FF16 and all the unnecessary icons in the game; they've done the exact same thing in the new raid with huge directional arrows that tell you where to stand with zero risk, and with AoEs that don't even deal 10% of your HP in damage.

      It was going to happen sooner or later where Square Enix would get greedy and hard siphon FFXIV resources to gamble on other projects. It's just really obvious now.

    maybe they are saving the good stuff for new Expac.. i think this 24 man was Meh at best... like filler 24 man. felt short and boring. rushed.. maybe they are saving resources/mechs for the next one. LETS HOPE.

    Honestly, both 24 man and the new EX is quite disappointing, Dawntrail better be great, otherwise, FFXIV will be going into a downward spiral.

      You can’t say the ost for the new ex was a let down because tht shit was banging and made prog tailorable lol
      What was disappointing about it to you?
      The only thing about it that bothers me is meteors mechanic will be frustrating in pf.

    • @Verpal
      @Verpal Год назад +5

      @@aeolussvichi7680 I didn't say anything about OST though.
      I think most of their mechanic is lazy, unfun and uninspiring, if we are only playing FFXIV for OST, just turn on RUclips and listen to FFXIV music, no need to interact with the game.
      There is one or two boss that are decent, for example Llymlaen does have a few party trick, but I expect more than this in a X.5 patch.

      @@Verpal I was referring to the ex trial since you included it in your disappointment.
      To me that trial was good as any other with a good mix of mechanics that all seem fair other than the meteors as you can’t brute force past it and one person can wipe the whole group lol.
      And ost in that fight made prog to me not as much of an ordeal.
      As for the 24 man, it honestly wasn’t any better or worse than the previous ones. It’s good on the first run through and quickly becomes a weekly chore after.

    • @Verpal

      @@aeolussvichi7680 Generally speaking, if a EX trial have to resort to OST to make it ''less of an ordeal'' instead of just being fun to prog on its own right, something had gone wrong.

      @aeolussvichi7680 Год назад

      @@Verpal id agree with you normally but a lot of the frustration comes from other people which is normally the case for of prog with a mechanic like the meteors.
      But with a dedicated group it’s not too bad when you can get tht good coordination and communication.
      I’m just thinking of of groups where’s always that chaos factor and with one person able to wipe s group can get annoying. At least the first few months.

    Endwalker bad! Updoots to the left! On a more serious note, I personally hated Ivalice. Bosses had interesting mechanics but the story put me to sleep, I could not give two shits that it was an homage to FFT, it introduced characters nobody liked, and had zero bearing on the msq. Same could be said for Nier. The 12 at least expanded on the lore of the gods, linking their dialogue all the way back to characters found in Elpis and gave people a reason to be excited about an alliance raid storyline for once.
    I also think Arthars focuses too much on mechanics for a piece of the content that is meant to be practically facerolled; Alliance raids never were meant to be hard or require team coordination to that extent, its just a fun casual adventure to do once a week and get some nice gear or glam. And finally, lest we forget, when Squeenix DID put in party mechanics like Nald'thal in Aglaia, people bitched constantly about how dare they make a mechanic where a single person could ruin a whole boss. Can't have it both ways.

      All the Araids except the Crystal Tower Series have no barring on the MSQ. As a rule, side content is very rarely mentioned in the MSQ aside from maybe one or two lines, because they assume players aren't going to do it even if it is popular content.
      Also, the lore was barely expanded, and (spoilers) with the gods gone it barely matters. They were characters that were set up to be discarded and it is obvious from the start that is what was going to happen. It made all the gods, as characters, feel flat and pointless. The religion is the only thing that is important to the world at this point, but we didn't get any information about the religion, so all we've learned is 'the ffxiv dev team is using ancients as a catch all for shit they want an easy explanation for.'
