      This comment allways bothers me cause certainly it is not Floor saying Enter Luca, is Tuomas and that piece from Enter Sandman is the last in a whole sequence of inserted parts of well known musical pieces that Tuomas chose to interweave in his composition as a small review of the history of music so it is not Empuu it is Tuomas again. And i also find it sad as a music lover that many of the younger generation only recognise the reference to Metallica while among several of the ones before that there is this point where the music and drums with the orchestral track behind them re-enter the fray playing very recogniseable part of Bach's symphony in D minor Toccata and Fugue. Which brings us to a pet theory of mine. I am 51 years old and like many kids in Europe that were born in the 70s and grew through 70s and 80s i watched on tv among others a French cartoon called "There Was Once...Man" it handled history from forming of Earth to first sea creatures then dinosaurs then mankind and history of it from paleo era to modern. Tuomas said often he wanted become a biologist as a kid as did Floor. So it is not far fetched that he may have watched same cartoon. And the intro and outro theme to it was Bach's symphony in D Minor Toccata And Fugue. ....for those who grew with it that piece on a subconscious lvl became the soundtrack to evolution and as it is a very characteristic piece by Bach for it's musical era i guess why Tuomas chose it.

    • @Klojum
      @Klojum Год назад +8

      @@galadballcrusher8182 Dude... You're overthinking this way too much. Yes I could have picked other lines or more lines uttered by the same or the other band members. I just find this combo of lines funny. I'm also about 10 years older than you, so I do know about Metallica as well as other music related stuff. My connection with the Sandman riff is simply strong, yet I'm not overlooking or denying all the other intrinsic little details that Tuomas and Marko have put into this masterpiece song. I guess I'm just too lazy to type all of them every single time the GSOE video comes along.

    • @galadballcrusher8182
      @galadballcrusher8182 Год назад +1

      @@Klojum well my problem with the comment is that i see it copy pasted a lot which makes it a meme which also makes it the easy way for some kids copy pasting it to sound witty. And i don't think i overthink it at least about my pet theory given i wanted become biologist as kid too, i may project but similar interests, and minds think alike so if he did watch indeed that cartoon he may remembered and got inspired to opt for this piece among so many of that era of classical music, besides the outro of the cartoon showed man launching to the stars as earth was getting torn apart with plenty nukes etc. Fits the song about that ratkind message eh?

    • @athlonen
      @athlonen Год назад +1

      @@galadballcrusher8182 Your reasoning as to why the younger kids only recognize Enter Sandman is the very reason why Tuomas inserted those pieces of songs into the song to begin with. If he basically wrote about the history and evolution of this universe, he wisely decided to include the evolution of music as well, from the first recording made (the Gregorian chants of Dies Irae), through Socatta in D, Tocatta and Fugue in D Minor, through to dueling banjos, to Enter Sandman, to EDM dance beats. That's 400 years of music that people probably didn't know, that they start to realize every time a new person sees this performance.

Thuomas is a great composer, but such name is so self-confident.' And damn, that was jaw-breaking! To realise, the song is not the greatrst show itself, but it is about the Greatrst show on Eart - the whole life on it. There is a reason this song is called "the greatest show on earth". I still want to hear the first written version of this. Tuomas once said, that it was about 90 min long and the process of cutting it down to what it is now was very difficult for him. I can't remember them ever making an 'empty' song catering what sells to the masses. And the way they can bring out the best from each of their members is just incredible. I feel you. The first time I listened to this song was at a time of struggle, stuck in an office job in a foreign country, slowly isolating myself and getting depressed just because I did not know where I was and where I go. I felt I lived a life not suited to me. So I sold my flat, bought a boat, quit my job and started all over again. And exactly at this time I discovered that song.
    It gave me so much power, so much joy, so many tears realizing that I am literally part of nthe greatest show on earth, even in my ordinariness. When I look at the sunset now, when I see a beautiful plant, I see much more. There truly is so much beauty in this randomness. I am NOT AFRAID to live! I am NOT AFRAID to change, to do something new, to walk a different path, even to start building a new path in life few have wandered before. After all, it's my show, it's our show, It's the greatest show on earth!

    The title of the issue is taken from a 2009 book by evolutionary biologist and atheist writer Richard Dawkins, about the evidence for biological evolution. Dawkins also contributes to the album. Holopainen explained to HMV in March 2015: "I wrote him a letter a little over a year ago and explained what ideas we had for this album, mainly about evolution. Since one of the songs goes straight to one of his books, it felt like a perfect match to try and recite him on the album. A few weeks later, he sent me an email accepting the invitation."
    "Later in 2014, we recorded his parts at Hats Off Studios, Oxford. This is a huge honour for us, as Dawkins is one of our greatest heroes and his writings have been a huge inspiration for the album."

The music is beautiful, both the instrumental and the vocal. Everyone worked their hardest (like they always do) to produce an experience for us. And, I think, an experience for them. Can you imagine how they all must feel when the perform this utter masterpiece? We are so privileged to have them, to know that they are in this world, in this time. I understand why most people suggest the Tampere-Version. And yes, the synced fireworks and the use of the flute by Troy suits me also better, don't know why he used an E-Guitar with the e-bow in Wembley. (Which still sounds great). But also they fire all the fireworks at the end of Tampere, for me the Wembley-Version has a more emotional ending, so I recommend to do both versions.
    To this reaction: really enjoyed it, because of how you reacted to the music parts and changes within the song. Keep up the good work 💖

    This song just never cease to blow my mind. How it starts slow and softly with just the keys, then Troy joins in and makes me feel like i'm sitting outside a celtic village watching when the fairies starts to dance in the evening mist , and then BOOM!, the whole band goes full throttle and the epic ride through the history of the earth is in full motion..., until the ride is over and it gets all peaceful again. Only Tuomas and NW can make a song, or rather an experience, named The greatest show on earth that totally lives up to the name.

    Great reaction my friend! A 20 minute journey through the evolution of Earth and it's life. The final quote from Richard Dawkins is so inspirational. You nailed how uplifting this song is. That just by existing we are special and meaningful. When I saw them live last May in Boston the end of the setlist was so inspirational and uplifting. Ghost Love Score, Last Ride of the Day, The Greatest Show on Earth, and Ad Astra for the outro. I have never left a show so inspired to go out and live my life to the fullest and to treasure my time here. Note that Ad Astra (8th movement from 30 minute orchestral piece All the Works of Nature which Adorn the World) contains a spoken word section from Carl Sagan's Pale Blue Dot that is as impactful as Richard Dawkins words are in The Understanding section of this song (outro).
    Nice catch on the Enter the Sandman riff (Tuomas is a big fan and during an exchange year in high school his host American family took him to a Metallica concert where he fell in love with heavy metal, huge thanks to that family). It was at teh end of a section of the song dedicated to the evolution of music. The section includes short excerpts from Dies Irae, Minuet in G major by Christian Petzold, Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565 by Johann Sebastian Bach and a Tibetan chant sung by male parts of the choir with the enter the Sandman riff.
    I'll leave it to others to explain all the evolutionary references in the lyrics but know that this song takes it's title from one of Richard Dawkins books whose writings inspired this song and the title of the album, Endless Forms Most Beautiful comes from Charles Darwin's On origin of Species quote that you heard read by Dawkins right at the end of the song. Evolution and life truly are The Greatest Show on Earth.

    Nightwish with Floor opened up my eyes too. I've been a big music fans since a teenager in the early 1980's; and when I discovered Nightwish during the pandemic, it was an amazing journey. They are one of only 4-5 bands that I can play daily, and not get sick of. While I now own every album the band has done, the ones with Floor on vocals get 99% of the playback. And the line up versions with Marco and Floor is the best for me. The new bassist is doing a kick ass job; but it is so very hard to replace a singer like Marco, plus the fact that he and Floor harmonize so well together.

    It's not a song, it's an experience. One you won't likely forget! It gets into the soul, of what it is to be human, what to make of our time here, and we are one. I love that part, with floor seemly arms out to infinity saying "We are one, we are universe.." And the final cry sometime, way in the future I hope, is that "We were here!"
    Pare that with Ad Astra from disk 2 of Human II Nature.. well I won't spoil that for you as you might do that one on the future but so good, so deep... not ashamed to say they both have brought tears to my eyes. I could gush on more, but Opus Perfectum indeed Nightwish. TY soooo much for this reaction, this piece of art is part of my being now.
    Inspirational is a great way to say it. I wish more could see and understand the message. I feel a deep connection to all when I.. not hear but FEEL this. We ARE one, let's treat each other like it. One small act of kindness and understanding at a time, that's all it takes.

    I always shed a tear whenever I see this performance and listen to this track on my playlist.
    Humans have been just a small part of the time this earth has existed, and yet we feel so special. In every day life we forget that we are actually here instead of the countless others that never came into this world, and yet we complain and fear going back to the state that the majority will ever be, meaning not alive.
    It is a very powerful, emotional and thought provoking song, as it should be.

I would give everything I have to have a look inside Tuomas' brain for just 5 min, man it must be crazy in there. The amount of times nightwish made me cry is probably higher than there are stars in the universe by now and i honestly feel like i've changed/grown since i discvered this beautiful band bc of them.. My favorite song since the 70s has been Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" until this song came in 2015 on Nightwish's 8th album. Since then it has been the absolute number one for me.
    Similarly, this Tampere 2015 performance is the most preferred, although Wembley 2015 is also really good. And of course I've seen it performed by Nightwish in 2022, their last tour.
    They perform a few versions of it of different lengths, depending on whether the song is the closing song or in the middle of the concert. Now on the 2021-23 tour it wasn't the closing song, so a short version of it.
    Do you notice at the end, before the band members leave the stage, both Marko and Floor point towards Tuomas as if to say to the audience "there's the man who made this song for you".
    He is a well-respected musician, also within his own band.
    I remember when there was an interview after the last album was announced and three NW musicians were there. The two were sitting on the couch and Tuomas was in the armchair. The interviewer asked about the meaning of a new song and at first it seemed that Tuomas did not answer, but then he started to explain the song. When those two other NW members realized that Tuomas was really going to explain the song in more depth, they first straightened their backs and then leaned forward, their eyes straight towards Tuomas. Probably still not breathing and if the ears could be turned forward, this would probably have happened to them. 😂
    That tells you what kind of position Tuomas has even within the band.
    Another reaction video creator once said that if the music world was the Marvel Universe, then NW musicians would be its superheroes. I think that was a beautifully expressed thought.
