Two legends of the game... Bob Gibson didn't like it when batters crowded *his* plate. Gibson threw at Roberto Clemente one day. Clemente responded with a line drive that hit Gibson and took Gibson out of the game. Gibson never threw at Clemente again.
As a Brewers fan, I remember watching the Stanton Injury live. Absolutely scary. No intent whatsoever, but that still pissed off the Marlins Announcers.
The Brewers pitchers are always hitting opposing hitters and it's never intentional. If you can't pitch inside without hitting someone, quit pitching inside. Then they have the nerve to get pissed off when the other team retaliates. They hit Wilson Contreras of the Cubs almost every game they play each other .
I still dont believe Fiers hit Stanton on purpose... twice... both situations were not in the case to bean someone. Especially the first one he seemed to genuinely feel bad.
@Tyler Randall exactly, especially at that level they’re playing at. Intention means nothing when you’re season gets ended by a fastball to the face. I’m a Mets fan but I was happy for Stanton.
I'm confused. Unwritten rules state that if a batter celebrates to the point of hurting the pitcher's feelings, the pitcher can throw a baseball at someone. What does the batter get to throw at the pitcher if the pitcher celebrates?

When Mike fiers hit Stanton it was an accident. When he did it again on the tigers that was an accident, fiers felt bad when he hit Stanton because it was a season ending injury. The homer was a reason for revenge on the tigers and Yankees when staton got HBP.
You really can't blame Fiers for the severity of Stanton's injury. Even a little leaguer knows to turn away from a pitch that is riding in on you...Stanton literally opened up his stance and turned directly into the pitch, that's why it hit him so squarely in the face.
@@beau8001 not true. Stanton has a closed stance. He opened right up instead of turning towards the back stop. I've been hit by quite a few pitches, always in the backside because i turn the correct way. That was drilled into me as a young kid.

Funny how the first one Baez hit a can of corn. He had zero reason to celebrate because his “hit” was only relevant because of the effort of the other three players who got on for him. Wouldn’t consider it as great of a revenge moment as other ones are. I guess it was cool because of the beef the players had but unless it’s a homerun or something it’s not that great.
