Uhh, no. That isn't the way it is works. Asystole, also known as flatline, is an example of a “non-shockable heart rhythm”. If a patient has asystole, the way to restart the heartbeat is with chest compressions - ideally in combination with IV medications. The chest compressions will initiate (or HOPEFULLY initiate) a normal electrical rhythm in the heart muscle. An AED isn’t going to do it. Source: Myself. I'm a recently-retired nurse and have four healthcare degrees including a master's in nursing education. I have taught CPR & AED and trained student nurses.
@Michael-gu5kl An AED is a defibrillator. AED is “Automated External Defibrillator” (although it is actually semi-automated). I didn’t say it doesn't restart the heart. It potentially can help with that. The heart muscle functions in a cycle of electrical depolarisation and repolarisation. The manner in which this cycle takes place is called the “rhythm”. There are certain heart rhythms that do not provide adequate blood circulation to sustain life and are therefore associated with cardiac arrest (the stopping of the heart). An example is ventricular fibrillation, commonly called V-fib. The purpose of the AED is to reset the electrical rhythm of the heart muscle to an effective rhythm so the heart muscles can function. It doesn’t always work, but that is the goal.
Bro it’s a show, a DRAMA. They did that to add suspense. Plus you’re retired which means outdated which means you probably aren’t as up to date as you should be on medical advice. But what do I know I’m just a cook 👨🍳
@@nzfirephotography either way it goes Andrea Newman got rid of him because how he acted she or someone else told him to act like that and they recorded it for the show
What happened is the black kid who walked off and slammed the wall, tackled the white guy who was on the floor. Basically imagine uou and your friend fight over the ball, and through contact, your friend just.... drops. Poor kid walked away thinking he killed someone by playing sport. Things happen.
These shows really need to get a medical advisor. The medicine in this is awful and so inaccurate. Also you can’t shock asystole. Where’s the post ROSC care, testing your equipment works is also why you do equipment checks at the start of shift.
Miss Brett, but I'm happy she living her best life with her family in Portland ❤ , hopefully we see her & Matt in the future.

Its a show but i see where you are coming from.
So what is the PURPOSE of having AED or Defibrillators then if they don't restart the heart?

Not disagreeing with you and if a patient is asystole that is NOT GOOD!

@BaziwizZy I can guarantee there isn't a medical based show in America that doesn't have medical advisors...
They do have advisors and I take it you didn't watch the whole episode or you would have KNOWN what happened!
