I'm feeling you man. I upgraded last year for the first time in 6 years and went with a pro because I wanted the phone to last as long as possible, but it was a close call. I'd be rather upset if I'd gone for a standard 15, just to have this happen a year later. I can understand from a processing point of view, but some warning last year would have been considerate.

While I am very interested in AI or the Apple equivalent, I will not be rushing out to purchase horrendously expensive Apple devices just to run the version of AI later this year. As a consumer I’ve never wasted my money upgrading unnecessarily.
I’ve only ever upgraded devices as and when I needed to rather than when the colour changed.
I’m also 70 so where is the incentive for me to go and buy more up-to-date devices? I have an iPhone 13 pro max and an iPad 12 pro be more than adequately cover my needs and unless they stop working I will not likely upgrade because iOS 18 is due towards the end of this year. I’m quite dependent on both devices given poor eyesight but I still feel that my current devices provide the assistance I require without the need to upgrade.
Appreciate all the videos you provide.

I don't think the _gate_ for Apple Intelligence is the strength of the NPU - rather I think the critical criteria is RAM - at least 8 GB.
The iPhone 14 Pro's NPU is capable of 15.8 TOPS, whereas the M1's NPU is capable of 11 TOPS. The reason the M1 supports Apple Intelligence and the iPhone 14 Pro does not is that the M1 comes with at least 8 GB RAM, whereas the iPhone 14 Pro only comes with 6 GB.
I think all flavors of the iPhone 16 will come with the A18 Bionic SoC, and the A17 will be retired. This is because the A17 is built on TSMC's N3B node which Apple is desperate to retire in favor of the N3E node.
N3B was a stopgap 3nm design custom created for Apple by TSMC when N3E wouldn't be available in time. This means that Apple will be retiring all members of the M3 family SoC since they are all built on N3B also.
N3E is easier to manufacture and is cheaper and produces better yields. It is compatible with TSMC's future 3nm designs like N3P.
Betcha Apple is probably kicking themselves in the pants for being so cheap with RAM - just by providing a few bucks more of RAM in the A16 would've put the 14 Pro in the *compatible* camp.

    • @vernearase3044
      @vernearase3044 3 месяца назад +3

@@citizen3000 Yeah, they start design and prototyping a couple of years before release, and design the hardware to accommodate the software the phone will run at release.
Unfortunately they don't have a crystal ball so they don't know what the OS two years _after_ release will require (four years down the road).
Still, it would be nice if Apple would add a bit of slop to accommodate features that future OSes will require; iPhone RAM sizes are quite minimal when compared with their Android counterparts.

This is might be a long comment, so just bear with me on this one.
Sulphur content, one, I am not upgrading my iPad and my iPhone to the newest version just to get the Apple intelligence because it’s too expensive and plus like you said we are living in a living crisis so I wanna just hold on to my devices and plus I am so used to having my iPad and iPhone, I had special memories and special bond I had with during my using.
Number two, the iPad. I currently have right now is the iPad seven generation that I received from my school counsellor back in 2020 on October 27 at the time it was running iOS 14.1 if I’m not mistaken, this device gave me so much memories during my four years of using it it has a good memories, bad memories, But I also had some emotional memory times as well because this iPad seven has been with me for a very long time since I was 12.
those memories that I had with was very memorable, and I met different new people in my school in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
I even use it most of the times and it has a very good moment.
and plus this is the only iPad I do enjoy and spending time with a lot and I still hold onto it to cherish as a memory until it dies, since my school counsellor give me that, I actually love it a lot.
It reminds me of some people that I miss especially the school counsellor who gave me the iPad seven, she is no longer in my school anymore after the summer of 2023 ended.
but I still hold on the iPad as a memory it was a fun device so I’m not gonna upgrade to any devices for now until my iPad seven fully dies which is I had a very good prediction that it might die by 2026.
And moving onto my iPhone so far I only had it for a year and the iPhone. I’m running on his iPhone XR so it is more likely going to die as well with the iPad seven but this is a pretty fun device and it actually suits me pretty good despite that it has some not so good moments of it because it does have some problems but either way it is a fun device And I had it since 2023 so this phone does bring some memories to the good ones the bad ones and also the emotional ones so it has a similar fluctuate as the iPad seven so I’m in upgrade for now until probably like like the iPhone 12 or something I’m not gonna upgrade to the 15th but the higher rank Once all of the devices are fully dead and the only way you can get is the ones with Apple and then most like I just gonna switch back to android at some point.
So those are my reasons I don’t know enjoy or more like not happy that Apple Intelligence is not coming to my devices and also the reasons why I do not want to upgrade in the first place.

I am the owner of an M2 1 TB iPad Pro, and I am very anxious to see how much Apple intelligence is going to improve Siri , and I look forward to your reviews in your videos because she is a big help with my memory, which is not quite as good as it used to be, and with lists, turning lights off and on with a smart plug, etc. I wonder if you have any ideas about how important RAM is going to be with Apple intelligence. I am seeing mixed messages, however, I’m very glad to have gotten 16 gigs just in case.. thanks for your videos, especially the ones that dissect the uses of Siri.

Will typing to Siri finally be useful and make sense. If we’re going down this new and improved route, I expect to be able to paste text into Siri and even set up shortcuts that will prompt Siri and paste text in automatically. Right now you can’t paste it just quits out, cannot even prompt Siri from a shortcut

Great videos and giving what I think objective opinions. I absolutely agree with the idea that Apple needs to increase sales and this is the only way as cameras, hardware in general and quality are up to date for years. Those who are about to buy the new 16s out of US will be waiting for new advantages for, at least, 5/6 months or more, while their new iPhones are ageing and older ones running iOS as good as if they had the new device. However, Pixels cost much less or decrease their prices quicker and they have great picture software, excellent performance and AI tools across the OS.

I worry about the support for other languages, even in the future… I’m Portuguese, and to this day, Siri cannot yet speak nor understand the European version of the language (even though speech to text works quite well in things like WhatsApp). This definitely motivates me to upgrade devices. I am not one to ever do that quickly. I work in tech and know how it goes. I rather get a big amount of development for my money instead of a feature here and a feature there, but the partition of the chip is definitely motivating. Additionally I am more comfortable with this framework than ChatGPT. Honestly, I may finally spring for a Mac. I had only been using Apple for phone and tablets and accessing iCloud over a Windows PC. These features may very well be enough to get me to full Apple ecosystem.

I've been a lifelong Samsung user and have grown tired of the Android ecosystem. Though I'm a power user with my phone (S22U) I hardly every use customization or multitasking. I've worked on an iPad for my work now for a couple of years and I really enjoy it and find it easy to use. So here is the thing... I need to now upgrade my phone and almost walked out of the store over the weekend with a iPhone 15 Pro Max. But a friend of mine (Apple user) told me that even though the 15 Pro Max is a great phone that I should wait for the 16 Pro Max that is coming out in a few months. So... I'm now waiting.
The only thing that turns me off from Apple is that it seems incredibly expensive to switch to the Apple Ecosystem. I unfortunately need the top of the range handset for my work which is expensive and a watch costs half as much as a phone for example. I'm really just hoping that I'm making a good choice and that I'll easily adapt to the Apple world later on this year. I'm very much excited but also quite nervous.

I am very convinced of innovation by competition.
X wouldn't be so good, if Y would be trash and vice versa.
So it's always cool to see what's over there on the other side of the fence, to get inspiration.
Google made a perfect move with the Pixels 8 last year (I simply love my Pixel)
I had an iPhone 15Pro Max in my hands for a weekend a half year ago and that iPhone honestly felt like an old 2018 device from a UX point of view. It was stable but it had nothing really new that I didn't know the past five years.
*But honestly in the WWDC24 two weeks ago, Apple made a perfect return.* I have to admit, I want to excperience the AI and everything on iOS18 asap.
And of course I'm looking forward to competitions return next year.
(I'm working in a tech company. We have many devices to test issues and of course I use them often for my personal curiosity)

I have been waiting for this video from you. I like how you put concepts and the like in ways I absorb better.
That being said, I’m going to need to rewatch this several times to make sense of it in my brain.
I’m excited about Apple Intelligence. I am always slow or behind the throng of other people learning new Apple tools etc.
These improvements will likely help me considerably once I can understand how to implement them. I have some cognitive issues so at times I just don’t get things. I’m excited to try things a couple at a time.
One thing I’m frustrated about is that we’ve been hearing about all these changes and improvements and then there’s the ohhhh dang part where we’ve learn that a lot of it won’t be available until several months and up to a year. So, no those features won’t be happening that soon. I was thinking that September seems so far away and I was so impatient and excited !
Now I feel like a balloon deflating. Who knows what Android will come up with by the time Apple releases it all by. However the main thing for me is that I feel duped. By the creators who have been touting all this and this is the first I’ve heard about a lot of it not coming for up to a year! Not telling us that seems like baiting for more viewers and for me it worked.
I understand some of that is about marketing things.
I hope this has made sense and you aren’t feeling offended because you are only a itty bitty part of what I’m frustrated about.
Or did I miss hear something?
Apple- come on. If you’re going to talk about releasing all of this and then drop the bomb that it won’t all be happening until possibly next year 2025. What a disappointment imho.
    Carry on! You’re my fav!

    • @ProperHonestTech
      @ProperHonestTech  3 месяца назад +2

Perhaps I've misunderstood your comment, but I don't feel like my video has been 'baiting' for views. The AI features are coming to compatible devices, some later on this year, some over the course of the 12 month period from Sep 24 to Sep 25, as Apple see fit. It's kind of impossible to fit that in a thumbnail and title, but that's why it's not mentioned there, and instead I discuss it in the video.
For what it's worth, I share your frustration. In fact, being a UK resident, I 'technically' have to wait even longer, as this is being rolled out in US English first. Thankfully, it's easy for me to work around this.
Essentially, most of the new features of iOS 18 should be available on all devices on day 1 of the release in September. The AI rollout will be much slower. Frustrating? Sure. But Apple are being cautious here. I think the boom of OpenAI and Gemini has forced Apple to produce something much quicker than they'd planned, and they want to ensure it works well at scale before deploying globally, and including all features. I kind of get that.
