Cat, You are a wonderful teacher! Your instructions are very clear and informative. So happy that I happened upon your video. I have a Gelli plate in storage and you have inspired me to bring it out and create once again. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Things have improved since you posted this video. Home made gelli plates are now permanent and do not have to be kept in the refrigerator. Thought I would just throw that out there in case anyone is watching this in 2019.
+carol m So glad you enjoyed it, Carol. IKR? I love how that bowl worked on the gelli plate! Check out your grocery store, where they have the plastic party bowls and platters (the ones they try to make look like crystal, LOL) TFW! :)
Well, darn! I never wanted a Gelli Plate untill now. I can't move in my craft space, which takes up two rooms now. I knew I was saving those empty tape rolls for a reason. Now I know what the reason is. LOL As everything else, you make this look like soo much fun and soo coool! Thank you.
+Mary Ann Gapinski Wow, that's quite a compliment, Mary! Thank you very much! I'm so glad you are enjoying my videos. Thanks for watching and commenting! :)
Thanks for sharing all this information with us. I have this size and I have not started using it yet. I just ordered a smaller one to see if it is easier to use more often. I think the size and space I thought I needed to do a run would be larger and that kept me from going for it sooner. BUT you have so inpired me to do it by these two last videos...Thanks!!!! Evy
AWESOME!! Had my gelli for many years--unused! Can't wait to use it now! Just joined MMM! and i have lots of avery labels--all different sizes!! YES! Now I have a use for them!!! Thank you!
Yayyy! Gel plates are so much fun (and can be very addicting!) Note: if the plate gets too dry while you’re printing on the label sheets, the labels will stick to the plate when you pull the print. I hope you have a ton o’ fun, Renee! 😊😊😊
Thank you for all of the tips. The first time I watched this, it excited me so much that I ran to Amazon to buy a Gelli Plate. I love mine! It's soooo addictive! Now I'm here watching again to pay closer attention to your techniques. I love the way you use *everything* and nothing goes to waste! I'm learning so much from you. :)
Thank you so much, Theresa, for this lovely comment. I'm really happy to have inspired you! Yes, gelli printing is very addicting - I usually print for hours once I start. I'm so glad you found my video helpful. Thanks for watching! 😊
Hi, I learned a lot as well. I think you were very thorough and I appreciate you taking the time to show us step by step how to do this. Thank you for sharing.
That bowl made a really cool print! I love finding objects for using with the gelli plate. This was a good tutorial for beginners, although I enjoyed it too. :)

@@CatHand The gelli plate has been on my wishlist for years. I finally got one...I guess being quarantined in my house for a year was enough to tip the scales of need vs. want...it's therapy now...so much fun.
Excellent video, tx. The homemade Gel plates can be made permanent by using alcohol. There are videos. Also they do not need to be refrigerated. I thought you would like to know. I loved your video!
I don't have a gelliplate jet, but it is on my list to buy! I do already have a brayer, but you can't buy everthing at ones! So my bookcover for the Mixed Media Morsels, will be diffrent. The back I like already and don't want to do anything about that! It was fun to watch, on to part 2 now!
Hi Wanda - you know, you don't have to have a gelli plate to make those labels.... You could put a few drops of paint on that brayer and roll it all over the label sheet several times and when it dries, stamp or doodle on it and you're good to go! 😊
Thank you, ma’am. Very enjoyable. I appreciate the fact that you don’t talk too much about irrelevant things. 👍🏻. And that you use all kinds of paper!😉
+Tanis Conway What a lovely comment, Tanis - thank you! It's wonderful to hear that you were inspired to get your gelli plate out and create! Thanks so much for watching! :)

Thanks for another great video! I've been thinking about getting a Gelli plate for a while now, I loved seeing how many different ways to use them. Definitely going on my wish list!
+laura85elizabeth Oh, well, you're in for a treat with a new gelli plate, for sure! So glad you enjoyed this video (Part 2 is uploading right now.) Thanks for watching and also for your sweet comment! :)
Now days, there ARE recipes for Permanent, Non-Molding Without Refrigeration. I’ve made one and am really enjoying it. The addition of Glycerin to the recipe in place of half of the water makes it possible. Look into it it’s very effective and very cost friendly and I am having a blast learning to use mine
You'll have lots of fun, Diane! I will tell you, just like I have told others, gelli printing takes a little getting used to. You'll figure out how much paint to use by trial and error. Also, don’t be surprised if your first prints don’t turn out exactly like you wanted them to - and whatever you do, don't give up. Start by using colors in the same color families and you’ll get better prints that don't look muddy. Keep layering until you're happy with them, and remember that the ones you really don't like will look great, torn into smaller pieces for collage! Happy creating!! 😊
Thanks for this. So many of the videos assume some knowledge. I've hardly used my gelli plate but now I feel I know where to start. ps the imprint from the bowl is brilliant
+Anne-Marie Stevenson Oh, that's wonderful to hear, Anne-Marie! I'm so glad my video was helpful to you. Yes, get out that gelli plate and start using it. And believe me, the more you use it, the easier it becomes and the more fun you will have. :)
Cat Hand, it’s just arrived today (21st December) so I’m going to get it out and PLAY! Thanks so much for the inspiration! All the very best for Christmas and the coming year.
Ah ha! You're either in Georgia or Florida! You have that Southern accent going AND you used some paper with "Publix" printed on it. I just moved (well, six months ago, actually) from Decatur, GA to Tacoma, WA. I miss "Publix" subs! Ha ha! I love your videos and your fun Southern charm.
Cat! I just got a gelli plate! I am so excited to see you do your thing with a gelli plate! I am off to experiment. Thank you for all the great ideas! Sending a big ole hug your way!
Tammy Brackett Yay! I’m so happy for you, Tammy! Just remember that it takes a little getting used to - if you’re like me and most (if not all) others, you won’t like a lot of your first prints. But don’t be discouraged, just keep on layering until you’re happy with the outcome. My best advice is to start by choosing colors from the same color family, i.e., yellows with oranges and reds - blues with yellows and greens, etc. When those are dry, you can layer on some of the opposite colors. I hope you have a blast experimenting with your gelli plate - it’s SOOO much fun! 😊😊😊 P.S. Even the prints you just can’t get to look right, really look amazing when torn into small pieces. 😉
Another great video! Lots of useful tips. I love gelli printing! My favourite household tool to use is an orange or onion bag mesh. I embellished a gelli print for the upcoming hashtag event. :)

Oh my word...YOU my dear are the BEST I've seen on RUclips for Gelli printing. I LOVE LOVE LOVE your style. Exactly what I'm aiming for😍 I do love how you sped it up but really explained at the beginning👌 and the music you chose👍 I can't wait to watch more of your videos. Makes me want to unsubcribe from the others. You have totally inspired me and I will share you with my friends. Keep up the great work!!
Thanks, Casey - I'm glad you found it helpful! That is a Dylusions stencil called Triangles - it's older and kinda hard to find now. Thank you for watching and commenting. 🙂
Thanks for this video! It came at the perfect time as I just made my own permanent plate a couple of days ago. Now I have some great ideas thanks to your video. Suzette xx
+PaperScissorsGlue Yay! You are about to have so much fun using a gelli plate!! I'm so glad you enjoyed my video (Part 2 is uploading right now.) Thanks so much for watching and commenting, Suzette! :)
For the first demo -green with bubble wrap on label sheet, can you then run that sheet of labels through your printer to have regular printing on top? not sure if this would leave paint residue in the copier, though.
This is really interesting and helpful. I have seen a lot of Gelli prints but I've never done them so you showing us the basics helps. It looks like I would love it. I liked that purple one that was one of your first. I always say this but I love your color choices, I was coaching you along when you had the purple, light green and were debating on the third color, I was hear saying dark blue, dark blue and you did it.:> They look so sharp together. Ooh, I like that last red one, it looks like fireworks.
+Lottie Faith Oh my goodness, you would DEFINITELY love it! I'm so glad you enjoyed this video (Part 2 is uploading right now) See, if you were coaching me on the colors, you must not be too bad at it yourself! LOL I guess it's true about great minds thinking alike... ;-) Funny you should say that about fireworks... I thought the one I was stamping off with the bottom of the bowl looked like fireworks, too! Be sure to check out what I did with that in the second part. TFW! :)
Thanks, Rita! The foam stamps I showed in this video are very old and no longer available, although sometimes they can be found on eBay and at garage sales. Also you can try Joggles.com for more current foam stamps. 😊
I’m sorry, but I don’t remember where I got the circle stencil - I’ve had it for a very long time. I buy acrylic paints at craft stores and online at Amazon. Thanks for watching! 😊
Thank you for your kind words. 😊 Yes, you can gel print on fabrics, but you would probably want to stabilize your fabric first. You can see how that's done in this video from Gelli Arts: www.youtube.com/ watch?v=07onkGDK4cA
+Carmen Hofmann Thanks, Carmen. 😊 I don't do very much stamping, but I think Jennifer McGuire Ink shows a great Mirror Stamping technique on her channel. Thanks for watching! 😊
have you ever run those labels thru your printer after printing on them with paint? I have used copy paper (printer paper), white tissue, dried baby wipes, music book pages, graph paper, notebook lined paper, ... but never thought of using labels! thank you.
No, I don’t use the painted labels in my printer - I use them to create with. 😊 Here’s a video with a couple of ideas: ruclips.net/video/pqYPfYHcqoo/видео.html
Thank you so much for another wonderful video, Cat! I was thinking about buying a Gelli Plate. Your video was very informative. Could you tell me what size plate you are using, and what size (inches) brayer? Thank you so much. I always look forward to seeing your videos and how wonderful everything turns out!
+Julie Katz Hi Julie, thanks for your nice comment. I was using an 8x10 inch gelli plate and a 4 inch soft rubber brayer by Speedball. I'm really pleased that you are enjoying my videos and look forward to seeing them. Thank you so much for watching! :)
I've been wanting to try Gelli plate printing for quite some time. Thank you for sharing your tips and inspiration! I loved the prints made with the bottom of the plastic bowl from the grocery store. What size Gelli plate are you using in the video?
Cat..GREAT ideas!! do you feel that the 6x6 or the 12x12 stencils are more useful???? I enjoy your work...have watched a lot! I now have an 8x10 AND a 5x7 gelli plates and other goodies and spending way too much money!
Thanks, Lani. I like both, equally. I know that's probably not much help to you, but it just depends on what I'm creating as to which size I use. Yeah, I know stuff costs way too much, so just go easy and purchase a little at a time and you'll do fine. 🙂
Hi! In the beginning of your video you said you had leftover print from a magazine and text. Do images from these transfer to the Gelli plate to pick up?
Hi Tina! The words and images can transfer to the gelli plate, and they do sometimes lift onto my prints. Gelli printing is really fun, kinda like that box o’ chocolates… you never know what you’re gonna get! 😃
Cat, You are a wonderful teacher! Your instructions are very clear and informative. So happy that I happened upon your video. I have a Gelli plate in storage and you have inspired me to bring it out and create once again. Thank you for sharing your talent.

I’m very new to this Art Hun thank you for posting your video up I’m sure it will help me a lot
My pleasure, Therese! 😊
Can you spray water on the second print to get a watercolor effect? Love the video. Thanks so much.
+Anna-Laura Hocker I have not tried that - but my thinkinig is tht the paint dries too quickly. Sounds like a good experiment, though! :)
Awesome video Cathy. I'll watch Part 2 ASAP. I can't wait until we can get together and play. :-)
+Laurie Richardson Haley Thanks so much Laurie. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Oh, I know! I can't wait either!! :)

My pleasure! Thank you for watching and taking the time to leave me a comment! 😊
Great Video..best beginner video i've seen..where did you get stencil used at 17:38. Thanks
Thanks, Casey - I'm glad you found it helpful! That is a Dylusions stencil called Triangles - it's older and kinda hard to find now. Thank you for watching and commenting. 🙂
Love watching you create 🥰
I’m not sure, either - never tried that...
I'm going to luv this! thanks for sharing.
+BohoDiva You are very welcome! Thanks for watching! 😊

I Love your techniques.
+Angel Morgan Thank you so much, Angel - I appreciate you watching and commenting. 😊
Cat that's so awesome 😎 I really love ❤️ the bowls mark and the balled up tissue paper. Just amazing thank you so much
Great! One question. Is it possible to apply the gel plate, with the colors, to a canvas?
I haven’t ever tried that, but go for it! It would be a fun thing to experiment with. 😊
I really want to do this!!
And you really SHOULD!! Lol TFW! 😊
TFW! :)
This is so incredibly useful!
Thank you Cat! Im going
Thank you Fiona - I'm so glad you found this video to be helpful. Thanks for watching and commenting! 😊
Hello- can you share where you purchased your foam stamps? Love your video.
Thanks, Rita! The foam stamps I showed in this video are very old and no longer available, although sometimes they can be found on eBay and at garage sales. Also you can try Joggles.com for more current foam stamps. 😊
MAY i ask were you got your circle stencil at i can't wait to try this out and were you get your paint from
I’m sorry, but I don’t remember where I got the circle stencil - I’ve had it for a very long time. I buy acrylic paints at craft stores and online at Amazon. Thanks for watching! 😊
Some gorgeous prints there!
❤ really useful for a beginner as myself
Thanks, Julie - I’m so glad it was helpful! 😊
I don't know why, but I find Cat Hand's voice is like an invitation to do art. Can Gelli Print be used to print textile (such as t-shirts)?
Thank you for your kind words. 😊 Yes, you can gel print on fabrics, but you would
probably want to stabilize your fabric first. You can see how that's done in this
video from Gelli Arts: www.youtube.com/
watch?v=07onkGDK4cA
Can you please show Reverse stampin, too? thank you so much for Sharing. greetings from Munich Germany
Thank you Cat lovely prints
Thanks Christine! In this video, I was using an 8x10 gelli plate. Get ready for lots of fun! :) TFW!
Cat Hand N
Cat..GREAT ideas!!
do you feel that the 6x6 or the 12x12 stencils are more useful???? I enjoy your work...have watched a lot! I now have an 8x10 AND a 5x7 gelli plates and other goodies and spending way too much money!
Thanks, Lani. I like both, equally. I know that's probably not much help to you, but it just depends on what I'm creating as to which size I use. Yeah, I know stuff costs way too much, so just go easy and purchase a little at a time and you'll do fine. 🙂
Hello and thanks for your video.
Can you tell me which sort of paint you are using? Is it Acrylic?
Hi Sue - you’re very welcome! Yes, I’m using acrylic paints. Thanks so much for watching and commenting! 😊
Cat Hand Thank you for replying. I have recently got myself a geli plate, let the mess begin lol.
😂 For sure!
Fantastic video! I really enjoyed this. 😊
Thanks so much for watching and commenting! 😊
