Gary moore, What can you say. You don't see many Guitarists like him today. He can excite you in one breathe and drive you to tears in another breathe. Earth is a colder place without you on it. He is probably jammin in heaven with Phil Lynot. Timeless music he has soul and blues. Almost up there with Neal Schon a true legend RIP
Early 2010, Brighton, Friday night , with some friends. Been on the pier, walked the Lanes. Downstairs bar, heard some amazing licks. Asked the doorman who was playing? He said Gary Moore. THE Gary Moore. Let me straight in (fuck the queue). Pushed to the front. There he was. He played Cold Day In Hell, Oh Pretty Woman, Still Got The Blues. Right in front on me, two feet away. Whole gig was just me and him as far as I can see. At the end he did that thing where they shake hands with the fans. When he shook my hand it felt like it was for about 3 minutes. Then he exited stage right. One of the best nights of my life. 10 months later I heard he had died. Not many men can truly be called a Legend. To this man I say it with the utmost respect. We will never see his like again.
4 years since I wrote that comment. 11 years since the night I shook his hand. Been watching these vids, Friday night February. Gary is STILL the Man. I stand by what I said, that we will never see his like again in the new world.
I am going to elaborate on this. Gary's hero was Peter Green. Pete gave Gary his Gibson. Gary recorded a tribute album Blues For Greenie. Gary was using that guitar then night I saw him. After watching him play that set I shoke hands with him. The hand of Gary Moore that had been playing on Peter Green's guitar. That's how significant that event was for me. Eleven years later I am back to comment on this. When you refer to a man as your Hero, this kind of significance, a decade later
For those of you who criticise Gary, well you pick up a guitar make the sound hes making in the video...go on then lets see you do it you dont have to have a music degree to work out that this man is a genius and one greatest guitarist alive today...
All that tone on a LP without gimmicks, a true tone monster. Once of the heaviest groves, period, just merciless, as music should be ;-) I'm glad there are this many quality recording of him for those that missed him when he was still with us. Like so many before him his music lives on.
Gary is simply on fire here. Epic, epic tone. Whole album was brilliant. Sadly missed. RIP or crank those Marshalls up to 11, Gary. Heaven won't mind one bit...!!!
This was actually the first Gary Moore song I ever heard and I've been a big fan ever since. Got to see him live twice which was amazing. So sad he's no longer with us - he was better than some who have had much greater commercial success.....
This was also the first Gary Moore song that i had ever and like you, I also had the pleasure of seeing him live twice, first in London and then in my home city of Bristol. I was devastated when I heard of his death. :-(
I'd meant to look up this video before. It's such a great song, played by the one of best. I'm glad he had a successful solo career, but saddened there will be no more new music from him.
I am a big fan of Thin Lizzy and I really enjoy Gary's work, hardrock and blues-sides! But I gotta say this song would really fit like a intro song to a TV-show like Jay Leno, David Letterman or Conan O'Brian.. and I mean that in a good way! :)
