I first saw this movie as a 12 year old, I didn't really have the IQ at the time to understand or appreciate the ending the way I can today. This was a seriously underrated movie!
I love how Jack looks at Epps and kind of has that expression of "how the fuck did you survive?" Look on his face. Along with that kind of subtle mocking of "ha ha. You can't do anything now and you know what's going to happen"
Red Dragon Moc it’s not them tho, none of them are. Black dude (Greer) from the crew had a full goatee and this one here was clean shaven. Blond dude is not Dodge, he’s thinner and just does not resemble him other than the hair. Everyone else is obviously not anyone from the original crew, the Captain (Sean) is older and everyone in this scene is way younger, Santos and that long haired dude (Munder) are pretty easy to distinguish and it’s none of these guys in this scene. So yes, your family was right, you are crazy lol
Red Dragon Moc Jack Ferriman (Ferry Man, get it?) uses the gold to doom ships. The end has the only souls he legitimately still had a hold on, the crew of the tug, transferring the gold to a new ship to start the cycle anew.
When i was younger i thought he did it only for gold but then i realized that this man is a demon in disguised...he manipulated human to kill each others so then he can collect their souls for build his own army to destroy humanity i guess...that gold was never there its just a symbol
People want a sequel, but I think it's perfect as standalone, the ending tells you he's going to continue to do the same until the end of time, an endless cycle. It'd have to be a completely different story, and at that point, does it really matter if it's a sequel or just a new movie about a ghost ship?
Why do you think the opening song was Senza Fine, which translates from Italian to English as "without end". It is a subtle nod to the endless nature of this cycle of collecting souls

this gave me chills back when it came out. perfect video and music symbiosis. the slow-mo and camera work along with audio... perfect ending. and a great song discovery for myself.
My most favorite part of this movie was when Murphy was talking to the Captain of the ship in the Captain's quarters. I don't know I just found it real cool that the two ship captains connected.
The Captain of the Antonia graza is obviously not marked as he was able to be in his cabin, and communicate with captain Murphy and let him know who was the source of the trouble on his ship.
I still feel that they should’ve used the actors that played her crew for this scene. It adds so much more dread knowing that they are his for all eternity.
At the time when I was a kid I for sure thought that was the case (I watched it in very bad quality). Man, it would've been perfect if it was them. It feels like such a miss opportunity.

For his crimes ( serial murder torture stalking theft kidnapping). instead of getting dragged into hell Demons offer him a job that he'll collect human souls and send them to hell. He can't do shit to pure souls like this little girl he cant send to hell innocent soul. So he created that gold as illusion to force people to committing crimes so he can leave his mark on them.
You ever get that feeling that because it’s been a while since you’ve seen it so your mind remembers the ending scene a bit differently? I haven’t seen Ghost Ship since I was like 5 or 6 or something and how my mind remembered it before watching this scene again was that I thought her deceased team came back as ghosts for the new ship or something, now working for Ferriman and two of them closed the ambulance door on her, which as an adult I thought meant they were actually taking her to hell instead of saving her. Weird how the mind can change things drastically, especially over something you haven’t seen in like two decades.
I literally just watched this movie again and I swear to god her crew that died were carrying them at the end, legit the same thought you had as I remember as a kid. But I think the last blonde guy kinda made us think that
From the look the Ferriman gave her at the end.. he seems less cocky that he's getting away to do again to more concerned that she saw him escaping. Almost as he's now afraid that she'll track him down, since she was the only human to reject his demonic offer after years of getting his way. As well as looking at her like a serious threat and wondering if modern humans are more likely to fight back against him than their did in previous centuries.
Sadly, the gold was thrown overboard in the middle of the night by a bunch of really drunk crew members who thought it was all just rocks. Ferriman’s career never recovered.
Very nice ending. I actually prefer when the bad guy / people / killer / ghosts win in films, especially when the hero's of the film make it through whole film and finally think they are safe until they are taken out last minute, and with a good twist at end is very good. Makes nice change from almost every film the good guy / guys win and you could predict that right from the start.

The entire movie itself is a skillfully written modern horror adaptation of the Ancient Greek Myth of Charon, the Ferryman (Notice the similarities with the name of the main antagonist, _Jack Ferriman?_ ) whom brought the unfortunate Dead across the river Styx to the underworld realm of Hades... The gold is symbolic of the coins placed on top of the deceased eyes in Ancient Greek funerals to indicate the fare paid to Charon to transport the souls to the Underworld...
So it means the gold is imaginary? I mean, that guy makes people see gold so they can get crazy and kill eachother for gold that doesnt even exist? Because it was supposed the gold had to sink with the ship right?

Desmond plays a very good bad guy. It's a shame they hardly cast him as one. I also loved him in Wrong Turn. The original one. Not that disaster of a reboot they tried to make.
The gold was loosely valued at $200-$300 million dollars That's, current market, about 36,000 pounds of gold. Gonna need a lot of crates and a lot of guys to get that on.
It really pisses me off they never did a part 2!!! So in the end the crew somehow got the gold from the other ship, and Ferryman is gonna continue his dark work. Everytime I see this ending I just keep thinking what's going to happen.
I don't know how did that dude survived from the explosion that Epps detonate to sink the ship and free all of those spirits to go up into the light but there's no possible way he's like a god, an immortal or anything like that he has no power here. God can stop him from trying to collect those souls that's what he said.

To solve this issue... The Crew putting the gold aboard the ship is the demon's original crew from start. Everyone in the sunkin ship is free from the demon. So start off from scratch lol.. Sucks dont it
Jack not control all of Epps former teammates as not all commited sin.just Dogde (who shot Jack, thus commited a murder, even tha later cannot die as he is a demon) and Greer (who cheated on his fiancee)
I don't see how they could have since the boat sank. I'm trying to figure it out. I'm guessing she was saved by a different ship, but at first the captain kinda looked like the one from the Ghost Ship, but wherever they took her the people would have recognized him and the ship too, so maybe the denom guy somehow jumped on the new ship and just manifested the gold? I'm a little confused.
You mean you don't get how an obviously imortal demon from hell who - among other things - controlled the dead, corrupted the living and literally kept a shipwreck afloat - managed to get a few cursed boxes of gold from the bottom of the sea (granted they even actually exist and aren't just play a supernatural trick for his schemes)?
I mean the dude's a demon, so he probably used his demon powers to transfer the crates. Besides, the gold probably isn't even real in the first place. He mainly just uses it to lure greedy humans into the ship for soul reaping.
I think the take-away is that the gold IS real gold - but it’s cursed by Ferryman with REALLY dark greed-inducing magic. It makes kinda dark men get REALLY dark, greedy, and murderous. So much so that they’ll murder hundreds to thousands of people over it (including themselves - to them, they do so to cut down on how much of the gold will need to be evenly split among them. But it’s really so that Ferryman can mark and claim ownership of the ones he uses to kill the people and trap their souls.) But yeah, the chosen crew kills all the passengers and traps all their brutally and painfully murdered souls in a capsule (the ship,) to be delivered to Hell (though I don’t know for sure if it’s Hell, or some other terrible and dark after “life” - not necessarily affiliated with Abrahamic religions’ mythologies.)
I think this movie is underrated despite not having best reviews but still good one. There has been debate of the end if the last two crew loading up the gold were two of Epps crew or not (think it was just two similar looking members). And on a personal note, it introduced me to Mudvayne 👍🏻
I believe this movie became underrated because of it's end, I mean the part when the ship is exploded. It is show a happy end with fairytale vibes and the soundtrack in that part reinforce this if you get me. So, this made it moved away from it's horror idea and original proposal.

The movie wasn't scary but because of this 30sec scene in the ending it tied up the entire movie up in a nice bow, concluding that he cant be stopped and the cycle of death will continue once again.
I honestly think the last guy carrying the chest of gold is Dutch. Remember the scene where Ferriman says to Dutch,that if you kill someone your going to hell. Well even know Ferriman was already dead,Dutch’s intention was to kill him. From the look the Ferriman gave her at the end.. he seems less cocky that he's getting away to do again to more concerned that she saw him escaping.
Almost as he's now afraid that she'll track him down, since she was the only human to reject his demonic offer after years of getting his way. As well as looking at her like a serious threat and wondering if modern humans are more likely to fight back against him than their did in previous centuries.
Sadly, the gold was thrown overboard in the middle of the night by a bunch of really drunk crew members who thought it was all just rocks. Ferriman’s career never recovered.

Very nice ending. I actually prefer when the bad guy / people / killer / ghosts win in films, especially when the hero's of the film make it through whole film and finally think they are safe until they are taken out last minute, and with a good twist at end is very good. Makes nice change from almost every film the good guy / guys win and you could predict that right from the start.

The gold is symbolic of the coins placed on top of the deceased eyes in Ancient Greek funerals to indicate the fare paid to Charon to transport the souls to the Underworld...

It really pisses me off they never did a part 2!!! So in the end the crew somehow got the gold from the other ship, and Ferryman is gonna continue his dark work. Everytime I see this ending I just keep thinking what's going to happen.

I don't know how did that dude survived from the explosion that Epps detonate to sink the ship and free all of those spirits to go up into the light but there's no possible way he's like a god, an immortal or anything like that he has no power here. God can stop him from trying to collect those souls that's what he said.

I don't see how they could have since the boat sank. I'm trying to figure it out. I'm guessing she was saved by a different ship, but at first the captain kinda looked like the one from the Ghost Ship, but wherever they took her the people would have recognized him and the ship too, so maybe the denom guy somehow jumped on the new ship and just manifested the gold? I'm a little confused.
You mean you don't get how an obviously imortal demon from hell who - among other things - controlled the dead, corrupted the living and literally kept a shipwreck afloat - managed to get a few cursed boxes of gold from the bottom of the sea (granted they even actually exist and aren't just play a supernatural trick for his schemes)?
It’s a demon who works for Lucifer. Lucifer grants his minions powers that no mortal can even begin to comprehend.
I mean the dude's a demon, so he probably used his demon powers to transfer the crates. Besides, the gold probably isn't even real in the first place. He mainly just uses it to lure greedy humans into the ship for soul reaping.
I think the take-away is that the gold IS real gold - but it’s cursed by Ferryman with REALLY dark greed-inducing magic. It makes kinda dark men get REALLY dark, greedy, and murderous. So much so that they’ll murder hundreds to thousands of people over it (including themselves - to them, they do so to cut down on how much of the gold will need to be evenly split among them. But it’s really so that Ferryman can mark and claim ownership of the ones he uses to kill the people and trap their souls.) But yeah, the chosen crew kills all the passengers and traps all their brutally and painfully murdered souls in a capsule (the ship,) to be delivered to Hell (though I don’t know for sure if it’s Hell, or some other terrible and dark after “life” - not necessarily affiliated with Abrahamic religions’ mythologies.)

I think this movie is underrated despite not having best reviews but still good one. There has been debate of the end if the last two crew loading up the gold were two of Epps crew or not (think it was just two similar looking members). And on a personal note, it introduced me to Mudvayne 👍🏻
I believe this movie became underrated because of it's end, I mean the part when the ship is exploded. It is show a happy end with fairytale vibes and the soundtrack in that part reinforce this if you get me. So, this made it moved away from it's horror idea and original proposal.
What got me tripping in this scene is that the dude with the blonde hair looks *alot* like dodge....

I'm just glad Epps survived and Katie made it to heaven. That's the important point.
The movie wasn't scary but because of this 30sec scene in the ending it tied up the entire movie up in a nice bow, concluding that he cant be stopped and the cycle of death will continue once again.
I honestly think the last guy carrying the chest of gold is Dutch.
Remember the scene where Ferriman says to Dutch,that if you kill someone your going to hell.
Well even know Ferriman was already dead,Dutch’s intention was to kill him.
So I take it his soul was marked...I don’t think any of the other crew members on Murphy’s ship did anything else sinful enough to get marked unless you want to include Attempted adultry from Greer if that even counts?
It doesn’t need a part 2 what it needs is a remake. It needs to be done well with kinda the same twist ending.
