My favorite part of that episode is Apollo's voice cracking when he sees the tunnel, "I'm... I'm going through it!" Can really feel the panic he's fighting back.

    14 and a half years.
That's when this episode first played, at least for those of us watching on Sci-Fi.
And to this day, I still remember how I was almost literally on the edge of my sofa watching this, and holding my breath as Apollo flew through the trench.
When he popped out practically on the doorstep of the mining facility, located his target, and dumb-dropped them on timers to fly away, I waited.
Then, that glorious explosion, and the first few notes of 'Wander My Friends'.
All those memories came back watching this.
BTW, if you're reading this and haven't yet found the video with the translation from Gaelic/Irish to English of 'Wander My Friends', do yourself a favor; find it and watch it.
The lyrics will hit even harder.
Now if you'll excuse me, I gotta wipe my eyes.

@@jaredloveless I actually disagree but I respect your opinion! To me the first few seasons are more accessible, the episodes more enjoyable as standalones and easier to digest (although still very gritty).
For me the final 2 seasons represent a change of pace but still a staggeringly brilliant show, for me it's actually the last couple of seasons that elevate Battlestar to my favourite TV show of all time.
It's much more about the mystery of cosmic forces at play, a questioning of spirituality, a comment and reflection of how time and age affect us all, the ones we love and even the things we love (Galactica) and how precious the gift of life is. It also creates really fascinating questions of how friendships and allys can shift and how it's possible to be an outcast within your own people (Cylon Civil War) especially when a religion or spirituality is involved. The reveal of how the cylons came into being and the explanation of who the final 5 cylons are is one of the best reveals/story conclusions in Sci fi history to me, it all joins together so beautifully and there is a confirmation of a spiritual/cosmic element all along with the storyline of Kara Thrace. The ending is the most satisfying and fulfilling of any show I've ever watched.
I dunno man I can't even put into words how brilliant the final couple of series were I think they are actually more standout than the first two, though I'll admit the early series are easier to digest and more fun! I finished my 4th watch-through of BSG a couple of months ago and I was just blown away by what an enjoyable and genuinely reflective experience it was for me.
So yeah I get where you're coming from, respect your opinion, but to me it's perfect! My favourite show of all time hands down.

Just a small clarification of the note at the end there:
The only requests for Battlescape episodes that will be considered are those provided by Patreon supporters. If you have pledged to support Spacedock on Patreon for any amount, you may post your requests on the Patreon feed. Battlescape will at first not upload nearly as often as regular Spacedock, so it may take a while for your request to be reached, but I will do everything in my power to make sure it is fulfilled.
I apologize for having to block off Battlescape requests to non-patrons, this is mainly due to the fact that it takes me several weeks to finish an episode of Battlescape, and the main Spacedock show has to be prioritized. I simply would not be able to respond to a request list as massive as the list for the main Spacedock series with this longer production time.
I'm sorry if this has led to non-patrons feeling excluded from the new series, but please rest assured that your requests for standard Spacedock episodes will continue to be read and considered.
    Thank you.

@@Pwnstared I mean, most other vessels would be fracked, but a battlestar has so much flak they don't even need to aim to stop most missile strikes, they just make a massive field of shrapnel and explosions and call it a day.

@@megan00b8 The downside of the battlestar is to put up this flak field, they have to sacrifice almost all their offensive capability.

    • @megan00b8
      @megan00b8 4 года назад +1

@@Debbiebabe69 Not necessarily, the Jupiter class battlestar has multiple sets of weaponry that can be split up into two main groups: broadside flak batteries and topside heavy artillery. While the heavy artillery can give a nice boost to the flak field when using proper munitions the smaller batteries can keep it pretty solid as well. The field can be also somewhat directed as the flak batteries (quite obviously) have a wide firing angle, and so it can be concentrated more to provide better protection against single opponent or spread wider if the attackers come from multiple directions. And while the flak guns hurt small vessels quite badly, you're not really giving up much firepower if you use only the main artillery against something with better armour like basestars.

Cylon Strategy is based on electronic Warfare disableling ennemy systems and surbmerging the enemy in count. This is why the Cylon Bases are mostly equiped with missiles while Colonials Battlestars have missiles, guns and Flaks. This is a "Computer thinking".
Colonials have the adaptability and creative thinking. So with not so much they can out smart the opponent. This battle is one exemple... But the first one making the run possible is another, the Cylon colony battle is a great exemple of bold move but the very most clever, courageous and Outstanding one is the New Caprica Battle with the "Adama move". Jumping Right in the atmospher, launch vipers then rejump out.

Given the nature of their jump drives, Sol could be 12 or 12,000,000 light years from Kobol and it would take the same amount of time to get there. The trick is knowing where it is and accounting for stellar drift and the differences in stellar velocities. (It's possible that after 150,000 years, Kobol is now at the other end of the Milkyway)

I loved the episode, it was gripping and with great action, but on second viewing I had to come away thinking they really overthought the tactics here. With no Basestar support the raiders on their own were no real match for the Galactica and it's Vipers. The Galactica could have just jumped into range of the asteroid, launched it's Vipers and totally overwhelmed the Raiders in short order and then taken it's time at the refinery, lol. Of course that would have made a less exciting episode ;)

Another ship to look at that i haven't heard talked about a whole heck of a lot that might be worth checking out would be the Glorious Heritage Class heavy cruiser of the commonwealth. Andromeda TV series.

A fighter strike following a interception mission running through a tunnel, with a following mop up? Sounds like a number of Ace Combat missions

So Galactica has 40 Vipers and 21 pilots, 20 with Starbucks out of action. 7 Vipers are used in Strike One and 12 in Strike Two. So that’s the 19 Vipers mentioned near the start, but shouldn’t there be another pilot left over to make up to 20?

Okay video but the numbers are incorrect. Strike 1 has 36 Vipers - Baltar in his 5-1 is referring to both forces not just the interceptors and he is off a bit - it's 4-1. Watch the episode carefully, the flags on the various forces have the counts on them. For example the force sent after Deacon says 90+. Strike 1's flag says 36 and Strike 2's says 12. And yes getting accurate Viper numbers is a challenge on NuBSG for the entire series. Other than that nicely done!

I'm still puzzled why they felt a need to revamp the show, characters and the journey home? Wasn't Lorne Green - Adama, the Galactica, Apollo, etc... good enough?
