Colonial One appears to have a design homage to the Boeing 747. It’s got that signature “hump” that the 747 has, and is clearly based on Air Force One, being the seat of the President on long voyages or emergency procedures.
Yea I think it is a scifi version of a modern commercial aircraft, notice there are no sleeping cabins, as noted when Rosalins takes it over and converts seating areas to a sleeping quarters and office.
Man, the pilot of the ship was incredibly lucky. Not only did he survive the destruction of the colonies, but he also suddenly became the pilot of the President’s personal ship.

He left BSG after the miniseries and went to SG-1 where he was commander of the Prometheus until its destruction.

@@frederalbacon Huh, I guess that explains why he never shows up again. Wish he could’ve stuck around, but (although I haven’t seen much of Stargate,) I’d guess that’s an upgrade in prominence. Good for him. :)
Did that guy survive Zarek and Gaeta’s coup? I’m pretty sure the former would’ve kept him permanently quiet after he turned the Quorum into Swiss cheese.
It's easy to forget that Colonial One, while it gained great status as the political center of the fleet, was an unremarkable middling ship before the war. An extraordinary situation put it in an extraordinary position, much like the former Education Secretary herself.

Been playing Deadlock, and man was it fun to give three of these guys cover from Cylons. Got tense as hell when some missiles hit one, but so awesome to see them jump out of the area.
These buggers are cute as hell yet fit really well when surrounded by the rest of the Colonial fleet.

I always wondered why the stbd flight pod was never converted back to a functional state to house C1 in battle situation, seems to me it would be better to protect it that way then to have it jump alone.
Lack of manpower and resources. The flight pod had been converted to a museum before the war and Adama had no way to refit it to working capacity. Remember Galatica was half manned at the start of the war and by the end whole sections of the Battlestar were deserted and abandoned.
They used it to house refugees, I agree though it would have made sense.
Free cargo space for refugees and whatever you might need space for.

Don't forget about the gym meeting place from end of season 3 to 4 where the Final Four met with each other with the code"1701 D." Can't think of anywhere else I've heard that one from???
It can hold 500 People in Emergency Situations. Which is amazing given that the ship is VERY Small and can land in either of the Galactica's Hanger Bays. Considering that the Galactica's Crew is 2800 to 5000 the Galactica should be able to hold 50 Thousand Civilians (Even though Tigh said it was impossible or at least impractical)

If you look at the miniseries it’s actually a massive ship, considering we only ever see one level of it.

I've always wondered about the history of that ring ship in battlestar galactica. It looks extremely old when compared to the other ships in the flee.
I think they might actually be some form of intakes for planetary landings, like on raptors.
@@yourfriend8052 The ring ship is the solitary craft in the fleet with a rotating ring. I'm also curious about it. Almost willing to bet someone had salvaged/stolen it from an orbital museum collection of historic craft days before the Cylon attack, & the impromptu crew decided: "What the hell!" And took on refugees.

The Zephyr (ring ship) is an old cruise liner with a rotating gravity section, as older ships couldn’t afford artificial gravity plating.

I remember in the beginning Adama and Laura Roslin didn't get along very well as Adama didn't take kindly to taking orders or being given orders by her as he argued with his son saying 'You are taking orders from a School teacher' and it was like that between them for a while till they gained mutual respect for each other.

Space Above and Beyond? It seems to me to be a space as well as
atmosphere enabled fighter that resembles a hybrid between Babylon 5's
SA-43 Starfury and Stargate SG1's F-302 Interceptor.

I just saw the video you did on the Executor-Class Super Star Destroyer, phenomenal work covering a terrifying and amazing ship. But I can think of one even scarier............the Eclipse-Class Super Star Destroyer. I mean, it's a TINY bit smaller than the Executor, but it's a huge and overwhelming ship. Would be worth an episode here :)

They make it clear that the cylons can disable networked technology and that's why the old battlestars and vipers were effective, but the rest of the fleet looks pretty modern so wouldn't they be networked, and even if they were un-networked some of them would still need networking to function properly so couldn't the cylons just target those ships?
Likely, the civilian vessels had a less militaristic version of the CNP. That's if they had some variant of it at all. There may have been networked computers on each ship, but I doubt they were as connected as the military vessels were.

The proper term would have been star system, but semantics. Pretty much everyone knows what he means. Besides almost every single Sci-fi franchise and those who talk about them make that mistake.
I interpret "star system" to mean a system of stars, not a star and its non-star satellites. In "Solar system," we use the adjective form of the star's name to refer to its system, and I don't know why that should be any different in a less specific reference-- i.e., stellar system.

Defiant is only the official name, because Starfleet felt the real name was too long to paint on the ship's hull. But, really what else do you name a ship thats basically a set of guns with a couple of overpowered engine strapped to them, created specifically to kill Borg?

Why the Hell would you scuttle a fleet when you reached your destination?
Maddog3060 it's pretty clearly explained in the finale to that series. It has a deep and meaningful purpose that is best appreciated if you've watched the whole series but it was absolutely necessary to do so. They are trying to break the cycle of humans and finding cylons which then kill humans and then they evolve and invent machines that kill them and so on. A true fresh break of the cycle and a new beginning. but that's just the surface you'll have to watch it yourself to fully understand.

Why are the Cylons an empire? I thought they were this collective AI. Also, what does Newtonian and 'semi-Newtonian' mean?
The Cylon Empire only existed in the original series, where the Cylons had been conquering their way across the galaxy before colliding with the Twelve Colonies. They were of non human origin.
I think Spacedock got the 2 shows' Cylons confused. The reboot Cylons were at the most an *Alliance,* since they presumably were both of Graystone Industries manufacture at the time of the First Cylon War, & knockoffs by other companies. The episodes featuring the Cylon society made it very clear that they'd been set up as a democracy;...tho this had eroded somewhat after the Ones/Cavils had staged their coup against the Five. The lead Cavil may have been a dictator, but that still doesn't make them an empire.

why wouldn’t they send the Secretary of Space Defense or Space Navy or some of the Admiralty to the decommissioning ceremony of the storied Battlestar Galactica?

Why do you think Adama was on the ship? And she was there to celebrate it's opening as a museum.
It wasn't so much about the decommissioning as about inaugurating the old warship as a museum commemorating the (First) Cylon War. The museum would be educational to future generations. Hence, the Secretary of Education.
Also, if Colonial One were permanently berthed in Galactica's only functional flight bay, how were Vipers supposed to land; & Raptors supposed to launch & land? Major structural changes had been made to the decommissioned flight deck & launch bays; & Adama simply didn't have the manpower nor the materials to restore the pod to operational status!
@@cathyvickers9063 - that makes sense… but still seems like some military higher-ups would’ve been present. I always thought they chose to make Roslin the Secretary of Education because that’s one of the position least likely to command respect from the military, and perhaps most likely to be occupied by a woman 🤷🏻♂️
and yea, I thought they’d just dock Colonial One in the museum-ified flight pod… all they’d need is the docking gantry thing, right? it would’ve made the views from the ship much less interesting, though.

Love BSG but I've always wondered why there was any in system traffic to survive the cylon holocaust. If it's all in one solar system and they have FTL why not jump straight from BSG back to Caprica?
The cylons prioritized military and planetary targets. Thus effectively disarming and annihilating the military and command and population centers. Any in system traffic would then be easily picked off one by one. It's why in the pilot immediately following the attack a lone raider jumps c1 with a single missile and it only survives due to Lee's involvement. Additionally its whybonly a a few raiders went after Galactica with nukes. It was moping up duty

I'm NOT a fan of this version of the GALACTICA, (or the Cylon designs)... However, I do like the design of the Colonial One. Good job on the presentation of the Colonial One!! :-)
To be honest, they should of buried those ships on the moon or another planet; not send them on a one way viking funeral pyre into the sun.
Or at least leave a few Raptors with all of the tech data and records of what happened on the dark side of the moon. You know so DON'T HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS BS AGAIN! Seriously, they know this is a cycle that has happened at least 3 times, maybe give your descendants a chance to figure that out *before* they make the same mistake?
