dude... just mount the slider on the ball and the head on the slider...
in your description you mention your cameras as being sony but in the video you are using cannon. please explain
OMG I just realized you've been making YT tutorials since forever. Thanks for not giving up and teaching so many of us till this day!
oh man.... the algo served this one up because i was looking at slider videos after purchasing a motorized slider. Looking at how old the video was (9 years!) , i didn't understand what if any value there would be in watching this video.
It was still charming to see how youtube was nearly a decade ago and how its content creators went in with eyes wide with excitement about this whole worldwide audience they could now reach.. you were obviously filming this in your room with poor overhead lighting and a not completely rehearsed script... a nice refreshing change to the quite produced stuff online now
Anyway, the point of my post is to say that in spite of this being 9 years ago and in spite of having watched maybe 20 videos on sliders by now, i still learned not 1 or 2 but 3 or more tips on this very basic videography tool and i'm only at 6:25 of a 14:00 video!!!
Now, there are a few things that would probably be done differently today and i'd probably do that (without watching another 20 videos!) like putting the ball head on the tripod and the fluid head on the slider, i think... but all of that only comes from this source and i'm watching the videos to learn for myself, not simply mimic what some guy on the internet said... :) I think the source here is very good advice and insight.
You really should be more popular. I hope your travels in the last decade have been rewarding
This is such an awesome video. Finally a tutorial that is clear and straightforward and doesn't skip any steps. THANKS SO MUCH!!!! =)
Good job with one exception to his comments. Learn your camera well prior to jumping into new equipment.
I learned a lot, thank you for taking the time to make this video for us.
You are very welcome! Thank you for checking it out!
You're like the Mr. Rogers of Easy Sliders. What a world, what a world.
Good pointers. Sliders do provide an excellent extra depth to the intrigue and sophistication of video. I've combined two liquid heads but the ball seems to work well too.
I love Jazzanova! As a beginner, this video was really helpful and the music was great.
A few tips on how to very easily get super smooth movements. Instead of using your hands to push/pull the slider, attach one or several rubber bands around the ball head or someplace else and drag it. This way you get a constant force pulling the camera smoothing motion by a lot, as well as smoothing out the start of the movement (if you don't cut that away in post).
For angled shots, you can fill a pet bottle with water to equal the weight of the camera and tie it to a string that you can run through a small ring or something that you attach to one end of the slider and attach it to for example the ball head. This then acts as a counterweight which prevents the camera from moving. You could even fill the bottle with less or more liquid than the weight of the camera, lens and ball head to make it either lift or lower the camera for you!
very clever indeed
Great tutorial. Thank you thank you, thank you so much!!! I now know what tripod I need, it helpt me trmendously! I was straggle to make a decision for last 3 days and nights untill I've seen your video.
Playing my favorite tune.. !! JAZZANOVA! i know its an old vid.. but just replaced that type of slider.. and just checking what your tips and tricks are...
just wanted to say this video was really helpful. Thanks. and I just noticed that I ordered the exact same ball head and slider off ebay.
Do you have tips for buying video tripod for slider? I found several video tripod with three support part which connect the bottom end of the tripod leg, are they more stable?
I like this camera slider idea. Great review. Thanks for sharing this video.
thank you for this video , i was trying to find this holder for long
Awesome video man. I am just starting to get into sliders and this video really helped me make up my mind on equipment and setting. Also, how to use it properly was really simple and clear. Thanks again!
Great. Simple straightforward tutorial. Thank you for posting.
Some advice for people watching this, get a ball bearing based slider and use a minimum of 24mm(typically even wider is standard) wide angle lens, IS lenses can help with any small vibration. Sliders have been around for awhile, these friction based sliders are something that popped up recently, so Chinese companies can sell you cheap sliders. A lot of what this guy said is not right. The basic info in the beginning was alright, but not when he started talking about lenses. Please don't take this offensively, obviously you can't know everything.
Nicely done.
'The first thing you should get after your camera is definetely a slider!' ... 'First of all if you want to use the slider mount it onto your tripod.'
Nice.
lmao
Thanks so much for video, i just got my first slider, about half the size of yours and was thinking something wasn't right because i couldn't get camera to screw on snug having it face forward, it will only go snug in same direction as the slider itself. I need a ball head so i just ordered the same as yours.
Im going to watch vid again and learn more.
Thanks so much for making a vid i can comprehend.
What are the names of the tripod, the ball head and the slider??? haha
+Charls1994 the slider is a "studio fx" slider, tripod/fluid head is a "w 717" and the ballhead is a "XCSOURCE® Pro ballhead" just my guess
When I pan forward, the track of my dolly is in the way. How do I pan forward with no track in the shot?
OMG thank you so much! I want to do a short film and did not know what I needed to make shots like this. This video helped a ton! Thanks again!
You presented an excellent overview. Thank you.
Good informative, i have digitak slider dsr 120.when i had buy it that time not purchased with its stands now in days not available stand so guide me for its solution,
Old video but hope to make good use of it, buying a slider soon.
wow ,have just joined the class but its really interesting , i want to learn more please
Excellent video. Where can I see more on the proper use of sliders?
Thanks man well done
You might want to use a rubber band or large hair elastic to pull the camera to remove any "pull jerk", and or use a proper video camera mount with a handle,
Thanks, a lot of great info. Onto the next video.....
Thank you for watching :)
Thanks for sharing this video. Exactly what I'd been looking for to use for my canon camera. Once again, thank you.
answered exactly what I needed answered and told prices of equipment...thumbs up =)
Liked your videos on sliders. From the looks of your slider it seems I own the same one. I have been looking for a hand crank to achieve smoother movement. Have you ever come across one that works with this slider?
Great video sir. Thanks a lot.
Hi Josh, I want to shoot vertical tilt shot with my DSLR and slider. please suggest me which item should I buy for this a ballhead, Pistolhead or videohead ?

Wow, excellent video! You're excellent at explaining it all, never seen someone present a review so well :D
Great stuff, Josh!! Thanks…it was exactly what I was looking for.
Hi Josh thank you for the explanations on techniques with this device. I have just purchased a similar slider and had been wondering about the best method to move the carriage.
I have a 6foot long 2foot wide aquarium which I plan to turn into a reef aquarium, I want to film it from the top, how can I set that up? I want it to be directly from the top I can't have it be from the side looking down, any tips or videos explaining it?
thenks for the video, i what to buy a good tripod for video and can support the slider this one that you use on the video you think is the best option i want something cheap and the best posible. thanks for your help
What about the flex problems on a long slider on single tripod?
Does the slider wobble at all on the tripod when the camera gets near the ends?
thank you so much for this! The detail and instructions on this video was incredible and super informative. I am wondering if you might have any advice on the best way to use one of these for cake shots? I make cake decorating tutorials and I just want to add that touch of professionalism to my videos. Thanks for your time! 🙏 new subber
Thanks so much! I actually haven't shot cakes with a slider yet! But I might make a tutorial on how to shoot cooking shots for ya :)
Thanks Josh, great info and well done!
yea i would also like to find similar tripod that one looks steady my last tripod and release plate was plastic and had a bit of movement, would you be able to give us the name or model of Tripod possibly, Thanks
Just bought my first slider, although it's just a kamerar slider (with the wheels). My question is just on what is a good speed to slide the camera? Should it be slow or fast? Or does it matter? Plus what do you think about having the camera on a slight angle to the left or right as you slide the camera.....do you think it might give the effect of a longer slide?
Love the brazilian music on the background
Hey man I need help. Would the type of ball head depend on the type of tripod you're using? Because there are lots of different ball heads in B&H and I don't want to get one and end up sending it back cause it's the wrong one. I have the Magnus VT-4000 tripod, what ball head do I need to get - can you send links? Thanks!
I love the song you played after the intro
Thank you so much for the video. Very informative. I am an upcoming video guy and want to purchase a slider. This is my first slider tutorial I have watched and am imprtessed. Good work. thank you

so so helpful
Wow watching many of your videos. you looked so much different now !
Hi Josh! Thanks a lot for very inspiring video! Great realisation, professional commentary!
Brand name?
Which Canon model did you use ?
great helped!!
great video I learned from it thank you very much keep up i will subscribe
What length of the slider is most useful??
One thing you can do to make your slides smoother, switch the head on the tripod to the top of the slider and put the ball head on the tripod.
That's how I was always taught, you should never put the slider directly on the fluid head
Very interesting.
do you have a link to the tripod?
thanks
What tripod does he use? I have a friend that's looking for a good ball based tripod
Thanks for this. I had no flippin' idea what a slider even was, but it was recently recommended for me to do some video work. P.S. You're super cute
What tripod and what ball-head is that ?

thanx in advance!
Hello! I have a question. I have a manfrotto fluid ball head and ball head tripod, similar to the video. I have an Ikan slider as well. I was debating weather to get a ball head like yours or a cheap fluid head. For 20 extra US dollars, I could get a Magnus VPH-10. Do you think I should get the fluid head or ball head to put on my slider? Thanks!
thanks for your time bro, learn a lot of good stuff
would this be compatible with a Dolica Tripod?
I have canon p1000. Is it possible with this slider
Wht abt centering the frame, how does it work on centering the frame, and wht abt focus if we approach forward movement of the camera, how does it work
Hey man, thanks for sharing! I have a slider of the same size but my tripod it's not strong enough. I really like the one you're using 'cause it seems to be super steady. If you use the slider horizontally and place the camera at the very end, it will remain perfectly stable? thanks a lot for any feedback
Great video, thank you.
thanks for the video..alot of useful information here.
Hi there can inuse it for panasonic hc x1 camcorder please thanks
Great video
Thanks so much!
thanks for this video man...really appreciate it!
How would you clean the tracks of the slider just incase some sand gets in your slider?
The tracks are removable so you can take it out and clean it separately.
thank you
Excellent video thanks, can you please send me a link which ball head you were using, there are tons and i don't want to get the wrong one. thanks
