Awesome Gabe! Thank you for teaching us how to stitch a leather patch on a hat. And teaching us the things you use to do this. Please, please, please keep making videos. I am subscribed and all in. I just started my business and don't even have hats yet, but it is something I really want to do. Kepp up the great work!
Thank you, Marcos! Business has been nuts lately and I’ve been slacking on videos, but I have a new one coming out soon! If I can do it, you can 1000%!
What do you think would be better for longevity on apparel like sweaters and such?? Stitching or heat pressing? What material for leather or fake leather would you recommend for washing?? Thanks! Great video :)
Hey Gabe, excellent work! We are not that far from Sikeston, MO! We currently laser engrave our own patches and heat-press them onto the caps. But after a few failures, we are looking into sewing them on. How long does it take you to hand-stitch one of these? I know a sewing machine is an option, but it looks fairly difficult to operate actually! Thanks!!!
Hey! That’s awesome!! Depending on the size of the patch, it takes me about 6 minutes per hat. Probably around 10 minutes when I first started and a lot more pricked fingers 😅🙃
2 questions - what bonding agent are you using for the non-stitched one in this video? Have you tried the hydbond? I am super struggling with getting it to fully bond on the edges and would love any pointers if you've been successful. Thanks!
I actually have a video about to come out about which adhesive I use for placing patches on hats soon! Really wanting to try hydbond now that I have a flat heat press for the leather. I will make a video about that as well!
I bought a camo hat with a leather patch and I found out that the person on wears real tree PRINT camo. Is there a way to remove the patch and sew it to a new hat by hand?
In the vid, the hat is being flailed around a lot. It's not clear to me what pattern you are doing, are you going forward one hole on the top, and skipping one on the bottom?
so you mentioned you also have a 360 IQ hat press. What do you prefer? Hand stitching the patches or heat pressing them. I like the fastness of the heat press idea just don’t know if I want to purchase one just yet? Just got my glowforge pro a few months ago and have been using the S-18 all purpose cement from RH adhesive for applying leather or ultrasuede hat patches. I do like the idea of the 360 IQ. What to do.. stick with the cement application or just get the hat press.. or start stitching them like what you do which looks super clean!
Great video and I was 1st thumbs up! Curious if you can share estimate of cost of 1 stitched hat, and average sale price of 1 stitched hat for customer? Also, does your laser cut the leather holes I’m assuming? THANK YOU!
All hats are not made the same so pricing will vary, anywhere from $6 to $16 cost! I actually just matched my prices with the first 5 companies I googled for leather patch hats ha. Laser cuts the holes, wish I learned that earlier!
I'm getting into this out here in GA. Some folks want the stitching look and others don't care. Would it be easier to just stitch around the patch, then press the patch on (I have a hotronix 360iq hat press and use HydBond as my bonder)
Stich around it like with the laser engraver? Personally, I'd rather bond hats allllll day than stitch them as far as saving time and still having a great bond!
Great video! Did you ever get a chance to order some Hydbond?
Thank you! I haven’t yet, but just got my first shirt heat press and can finally attach your product myself! I’m pumped!
Motivation! Im going to work harder!

Shot on my iPhone at 3am 😂 I’m sorry for the quality, folks
Nice video buddy, All the best for you business, Cheers from Venezuela. 🤓👍🏻
Thank you!!
What size are the holes you are precutting for the thread to go through.
Great video. Keep up the good work !
Thank you!!
How did you start the stitch??
Awesome video, thank you!
How big do you cut the stitch holes with the laser?!
Nice video, where do you order your hats?

Thanks! Great video :)
I've done the trial and error for leather bonded onto sweaters and such...doesn't take long to find out its just not great for washing
What kind of needle was used?

Our customers have had great success with Hydbond. May want to give it a try.
Loved the video
Thank you!
Thread or needle? 😁 Thanks for the video.
How do you push the holes through the hat? Especially on the seam down the middle?
I use a needle on a leather awl. I shave down the bottom of the needle for an easier distance for my hands to pop the holes in quicker!
Hey thanks for sharing! Do you think this process works on the softer mesh trucker hats?
It does, but it takes a little more time to stitch 🙃
Is this possible without pre cut holes?
Yes! I stamped all the holes for a year with leather tools!
Buy a thousand dollar post bed with a roller wheel and reducing gear. Never look back .

Good video and a what is the thickness of your leather
Thank you! I order 3-5oz leather!

Who makes your patches, What are the prices for the patches?
How did you get the stitches already on the hat?
Laser engraved into the patch itself, but started out punching the hole myself.
@@GabeMakes thats cool!!!
Where do I go to, to get my design made into patch? Thank you or explain the patch making process appreciate it.
I use my laser to make my patches. :D
Really cool video! how thick is that wax thread you use? 1mm?
Thank you! I get mine from amazon and its 1mm! Takes about 390 hats to use up a whole roll. Don't ask how I know hahaha

what type of needle do you use to go through the hats
I use a pack of all purpose needles from hobby lobby! lol only found use for the thinner middle one in the pack though
Why don't you use a sewing awl?

On your patches how do you get the pattern for the sewing cut out
I dont make the patches, but they just build the pattern into the design in adobe I believe.

@blake What are your thoughts on using the hydbond? I am going my patches on now with leather cement.
Sent you an email about getting patched with stitch holes but never got a reply!
