I don't mind watching this series over and over. Best everything. My only beef is, I share the emperor's outrage and want to see their grand wedding too!
Loved this whole series. The acting is great, and the actors are well matched, the storyline is impressive and fast-moving. What really makes it great is the emotions in the male leads eyes.Very, very well done, not all actors can get the emotions needed in their eyes.
I agree, his eyes are very expressive. One of the things I love about this drama. He doesn’t have to say anything. You can totally see how he’s feelings from his eyes
My favorite moment was watching the subtle emotions on Leo Wu's face as he's having that arrowhead removed. The love on his face shifts for a micro-second into despair when he asks her if her lover gave her the necklace she's using to pull out the arrow. Her answer, "Someone I like gave it to me", dismays him, until she adds: she has good taste". Then his expression instantly shifts back to enraptured. That's genuis acting.

This is admittedly the pivotal role of Zhao Lusi that transformed her to true stardom. While this was at its streaming peak, she got "trapped" by a problematic production of a promising youth drama that had its original director back out, poor production design, demanding deadlines, questionable casting, and hoards of shippers out for blood. Starting from ground zero, her connections and generous participation had made that project a phenomenal success . Congratulations baby girl. I look forward to your successes 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Zhizheng is so gentle to shaoshang, I can't help but wish I can find someone like him in this life. I also learn so much from how Zhizheng love Shaoshang, passionately loving his loved one.
It's always the little things we do for those we love that we remember that give us warmth in the harshness of reality. The warmed blanket, late nite snacks, playing the flute, spending forbidden time in the dead of nite together and the looks of love passed between them will be memories they will cherish together as harsh reality and the cruelties of life try to tear them apart. The memory of Ling Buyi first setting his cold eyes on Niao Niao and his heart and eyes melting and knowing Niao Niao is THE ONE. It reminds me of a similar scene on Love In The Flames Of War. The ML falling in love at first sight...the FL taking her time. Ling Buyi is the best example of an ML who knows his job duty and just destroys anyone who threatens his beloved Niao Niao but shows nothing but stubborn tenderness towards her. He sets the bar high and i'm glad. Let this couple set the example for other dramas on what a healthy, loving relationship should be like. There needs to be a Season 2 with their bada$$ kids and Niao Niao in full battle armor being the bada$$ battle queen she is.

Why is there no sound during a lot of the scenes in the drama? It suddenly goes silent for quite a few minutes. Even inthis scene her flute playing has no sound. Why...? 😢
Stuff posted on RUclips usually has sound gaps, where music is playing or even gaps where the dialog drops out altogether. Usually this is for copyrights reasons and to make actual copying of the shows less attractive. I had to have this on DVD and my aunt gave both seasons to me for Christmas.
I know most if the affection in the drama was the way they looked at each other, but i really wish there was more then that kind. Only disappointment of this drama. I must say though, this threw me for a loop. To those that have not watched it, just wait
Well. Ya'll forced it. I now am sitting, twiddling my thumbs, waiting for a copy of the whole thing to arrive from apparently China (don't know why I'm surprised, it IS a Chinese show and it's not like all American shows are available everywhere) and now I'm just mildly annoyed I have only brief clips to watch until then. Anyone know just how hard Mandarin is to learn? I'm likely too dim to get to clear reading level, but conversational would make this sudden huge wash of shows I enjoy easier. I already can understand 4 languages in spoken form, so here's hoping. (It's gonna be a long slog of studying because while I'm grateful for subtitles, I'm 100% sure I'm missing subtleties here.)
