Overlays made with @kangaskdan's help! Thanks Dan!
Challenge Results: docs.google.co...
Chat/Comment Guidelines:
1: Respect each other, do not intentionally cause arguments and diffuse the situation immediately.
2: Please no backseat gaming. If I need help, I will ask the chat for help. A lot of the fun for myself and the viewers is coming up with the strategies on my own and solving problems in my own unique way.
3: Listen to the streamer. If I say stop, I mean stop, and move the discussion on.
4: Please don't reference other creators' in-jokes and running gags on my stream. Just as much as I wouldn't like another creator using my lore, I would find it disrespectful to use other creators' lore.
5: Moderators' and streamer's decisions are final.
The Rules:
1: The timer starts when walking away from Professor Elm after receiving the starter Pokémon.
2: Only the Challenge Pokémon may participate in battle.
3: No items in battle, except Balls from the bag.
4: No evasion-increasing TMs, and no Rest and Sleep Talk TMs until every other option has been exhausted.
5: No intentional uses of glitches or exploits, except the Teleport glitch after the SS Aqua.
6: No Rare Candies until facing Red. Rare Candies will be used in a 3-3-4 pattern.
7: Timer may be paused for breaks in recording, but no inputs may be made when the timer is paused.
8: Save states are permitted in the overworld, but no save states may be used mid-battle.
9: If the challenge Pokémon faints, the previous save state must be reloaded and progress regained.

7 hrs 16 minutes to beat 1st gym? Shuckle has finally been dethroned!
I must give the high praise this channel deserves. Not only is alot of passion and commitment goes into the content, the overall relaxed vibe is amazing. It really helps me sleep after a stressful day to put on one of these videos and relax. If I fall asleep I do rewatch from where I can remember 😅 The chilled vibe really helps me unwind. Thank you and keep up the amazing work :)
Thank you, that's very, very kind of you to say!
I'm glad I can help you unwind, I try and keep everything as relaxed as possible, and I know a lot of people tend to fall asleep with the videos (and quite often the streams) playing in the background. :)
It's either a 100 base attack or you change the level up group to medium slow and give it 90-95 base attack.
Or replace Agility with Wing Attack or Swords Dance. In Gen 4 and onward, Skarmory can use Swords Dance as a TM.
Either way, Gen 2 Skarmony is pretty damn sad.
I don't think Skarmory needs any buffs. It's not meant to be an attacker - it's supposed to be a defensive wall that can annoy the opponent and whittle it down. I guess a buff that makes sense is learning drill peck - it'll give a stronger neutral option than return.
Most kanto regions : deep topics about the channel, the future and life in general
This kanto region : Skarmory - a polished turd - in episode we will discuss ...
Love a good Pokémon rant section.
Skarmory can learn drill Peck via breeding, super fun as a flying type with that move
i loved Skarmory from the start of Gen 2. we quickly learned that in competitive, you had to breed Drill Peck and Whirlwind on it (i know you cant do that in your runs). SkarmBliss was everywhere, and it got even crazier in Gen 3 386. his defense was so valuable back in the pre-PCNY competitive, where you didnt have to deal with Lovely Kiss Nidokings or Growtheons. he was a Toxic and Spikes and Sandstorm menace, some people would use all three and not use Drill Peck at all. it was one of the few things that could stand up to Snorlax for a bit
I was writing my comment as the video was about to start "Wait, Skarmory is a gen 2 pokemon", I feel seen :D
As as Skarmory enjoyer, it's base stats are surprisingly low at only 465. But being a Johto Pokemon this isn't too surprising. If we give it a 10 point boost to HP, Attack, and Sp. Defense up to 495 BST (equal to Corvikight) that would round it out nicely.
Alternatively, it's counterpart Mantine got a +20 HP buff in Gen 7 while Skarmory did not! If we go by that logic we can mirror the HP increase or do +10 HP and +10 Attack.
I'd love to see a buff to Skarmory in the same way that Mantine got its buff.
An extra 10 in Attack and an extra 10 for HP would have gone a LONG way in this one.
I think in a future run, where you mentioned you wanna do team runs, one idea is Skarmory + Blissey (SkarBliss), they are often paired in later generations as they tend to cover each other's lower defense's
I know it’s kind of a given, but if it got buffed to 90 ATK and learned Swords Dance via level up, I think Skarmory could easily be one of the better Gen 2 ‘mons.
Skarmory is the other half to mantine
Skarmory, my favorite Steel/Flying type! Can set up Spikes, spam Agility, and hits with a decent stab boosted Aerial Ace and Steel Wing. It also gains 2 immunities to Ground and Poison, a ton of resistances, and is only weak to Electric and Fire types :)
Never woulda thought to use Sandstorm.
I bred one with drill peck was one of my favorite flying types
4:51 A rare instance of the secondary effect of Icy Wind from the CPU not occurring
Imagine waiting until level 37 to get fury attack…
Even Pidgeot has a better movepool
Still baffles me that the tangela video is much shorter than this. Actually insane
Skarmory great design & great Pokemon for competitive usage but unfortunately no good attacking moves without breeding hurts it in-game wise. Being version exclusive & found after Blackthorne City really hurt. In the wild in Gen 2 it was found in the low 20s level wise I think but to keep on par with the rest of the game it needed a 20 level grind. Not only that but it was: rare, hard to catch, & could flee
I loved this design so much as a kid, and still think it's one of the best. However, even back then, I realized quite quickly it was not very good, and ended up only using it to eat some big hits.
I guess a better move set would go a long way to improve it... I don't know how it fairs in the new generations, but it's stabs kinda suck anyway... Ah, what a shame.
Idk why but for some reason I remember Skarmory being better than it actually is. At least I thought so lol. Such a neat design but sadly very limited.
The stall strategy was well thought out! I am waiting to see when and if you will have to make that annoying decision of getting a pokemon to lvl 100 😅 Let's hope it wont have to come to that on these non evolving types!
There's absolutely going to be a Pokémon who needs to get to level 100!
Wobbuffet is one who potentially needs to get that high, but it all depends on how quickly we get through the game. If we get to Red at the low 60s, we can beat him without the grind. If not, we have to go all the way up to 100.
I love this bird it very cool and it great
I don't think it would have made that much of a difference time wise. But if Skarmory got a little power moves, or even Wing Attack it feels like it would have done a lot better. The number of times it missed out on a knock out.
Wing Attack would be a very, very helpful addition!
I wonder how a combo of agility, curse, and return would have performed against red. To this day, i still wish gamefreak would of given jasmine a skarmory
I was considering that strategy, but dismissed it because of the high paralysis chance combined with Charm on Pikachu! In hindsight, though, I reckon it would've made for a smoother Red fight.
If Jasmine had a Skarmory as well as a Steelix, I reckon I'd cry doing the runs :D
@@Squidgy it would make her pretty tough with those defensive walls.
honestly I would change the level up group. It isn't powerful enough to warrant the slow group or has any other payoff like magikarp. maybe medium fast is too good, but medium or medium slow? it would probably be a lot stronger due to a higher level
That's probably all Skarmory needs to be a much stronger Pokémon - going into the league about 5 levels higher would've made all the difference!
Skarmory would probably do better with the medium slow group
Good news for you Squidgy, the magnemite line has the ability magnet pull, so you can trap and eliminate all skarmorys starting from gen 3!
Remind me never to have a Mangemite on my team in Gen 3! I don't want any Skarmory being pulled towards me!
@@Squidgy😂😂 that lets us know how much you can’t stand Skarmory
Base 150 attack and a faster growth rate would help I'd imagine. Maybe Brave Bird as well, also Meteor Mash. Seems reasonable.
Been watching squidgy for some time…. What does he mean when he says “the first thing we do in Kanto is the last thing we do in Johto”? Is there a rare candy at the end of Johto?
Hey!
That's a bit of a holdover from the old edit style - we pick up two Rare Candies before getting on the boat to Kanto - one in Mount Mortar, and one in the Whirl Islands.
You should do scizor next might actually be a challenge
My schedule's fully booked until January now, but I've put Scizor in the first available slot for the new year :)
@@Squidgy looking forward to your future runs I really liked the skarmory run
Gold Beak to hold at the beginning.😉
Squidgy: 🙄 0:50
🤣🤣🤣
Yeah 6 1/2 months until that April Fool's video to catch me off guard. 😁🤣
Fantastic competitive pokemon, but in-game doesn't favor defense.
I know you are talking from the perspective of single Pokémon runs but hearing you talk about how lacking Skarm is and asking for buffs is really weird. It has been an ou staple in every generation except ss. You would even get called out for using it in combination with Blissey because a defensive Skarmbliss core was that strong.
I love how different ways of playing show off each Pokémon's strengths and weaknesses!
Some Pokémon with high attack and high speed are built for speedrunning the game, whereas some defensive Pokémon are very much built for competitive gameplay.
Move set for gen 2 should of learnt drill peck
Skarm is my second favourite Pokémon but unfortunately its stat spread is not suitable for the solo run format. It's a shame drill peck is an egg move
Not looking forward to seeing the two charizard
Edit: I would improve skarmory (in the solo run context - it's done well in competitive and casual imo) by replacing peck with drill peck for that extra base power and give it the medium fast level up group
Skarmory definitely needs something to give it a chance in Generation 2. It's just got nothing going for it after the first couple of gyms, and the endgame is a slog!
Drill Peck in generation 2 would make Skarmory so much better :)
