Well. At least gamefreak gave kabutops a rock move in gen 2. Also, I find it funny that in gen 1, it learns absorb. But cannot learn the TM for mega drain. But it learns mega drain via level up in gen 2, and can learn the TM for giga drain
Kabutops really lost ground from losing swords dance from TM Speaking of perhaps a series idea can be how will Pokémon do in crystal if it could be forwarded from gen 1 (eg in this case you can teach body slam and swords dance as they are TMs) I'd also be interested in seeing what the theoretical best run would be where you can set your type, stats, level up group, moveset etc Edit 2: TIL you lose a heart if you edit your comment. Makes sense I guess
I love that idea! I'll try and figure out some way of incorporating a Gen 1 Move Tutor for all the missing TMs in Gen 2. It could take me a while to do, but I reckon it could be a very interesting series.
@@Squidgy it's probably a bit lazy but you might be able to add them to a poke mart inventory for 1 pokedollar. The move tutor would be more in line with your way of doing things and it might even serve as groundwork for a move reminder if you chose to go down that route
I thinknfor more sets maybe the following: -Wigglytuff and Clefable because they're both bulky Moon Stone Normal types -Nidoking and Nidoqueen because, well, ya -Scizor and Steelix for the metal coat Evolutions -Dragonite and Tyranitar as the Pseudolegends, maybe throw in Kingdra since it's a dragon -if you do Dragonite last you can then segue into the Elite 4 Aces from both Gens (Lance's Dragonite was done so just Lapras, Xatu, Houndoom, Crobat, Machamp, Gengar) -That could segue into all non accounted for trade evolutions -Trade Evolutions could segue into the Poliwag and Slowbpke split evolution lines. -those can segue into stone Evolutions Soooo many options!
@Squidgy oh then flip it right round! -Poli's and Slow twins -Then trade evolutions -the Elite 4 starting with their trades and ending with Dragonite -moving into pseudolegends -metal coat Evolutions -The Nido couple and other moon stone friends in clefable and wigglytuff etc -then stone evolutions ending with the Eevelutions
Furret VS Raticate (Early game normal types). Fearow VS Pidgeot VS Noctowl. Slowking VS slowbro. Hitmon trio (lee VS Chan VS Top). Dragonite vs Tyranitar (pseudo’s). And for the early bugs perhaps a tag team gen 1 (beedrill+butterfree) VS Gen 2 (ariados+ledian).
That's a very good idea! We're starting the regular Eeevelution videos next month, but once they've had their time to shine, I'll definitely be doing the Gen I and Gen II Eeveelutions in their own groups.
I like that idea! I've already got Slowking vs Slowpoke in the schedule, so it'll have to be a split versus, but I'm absolutely going to compare the two at the end of the Politoed video.
As I was about to suggest you comparing the comparable pokemon from Gen 1 and 2 to each other and you mentioned you would! Maybe you can compare the version exclusives to one another as well so like arcanine to ninetails and those comparisons like that.
What about Pokemon that evolve via stones like: Eeveelutions, Arcanine/Ninetales, Victreebel/Vileplume, Sunflora/Bellossom, Cloyster/Starmie/Poliwrath. Trade evolutions would be good as would non stone item evolutions like: Scizor, Steelix, & Kingdra
A good 2 pokemon rivals can be heracross and pinsir. Scizor can be added to them to make it a trio as i always remember the episode where heracross fights scizor and wins
It would be a weird combo but, how about Dunsparce vs Gligar for the single stage series? When I was a little kid, I was convinced Dunspace evolved into gligar. I think it's because they have similar tails, at least to little kid me.
Because neither of them evolve, they wouldn't be fitting for this series, but I like the idea of doing Dudunsparce and Gliscor as a versus pair of backports!
although his time was good i was expecting something crazy from kabutops considering its really high base attack defense and decently high speed but his move set just is not the greatest which probably held him back
@@Squidgy which is just so disappointing, kabutops has really really high potential with stab rock slide and things like waterfall, it’s so unfortunate it’s held back like that and in turn learns moves like absorb and mega drain, which makes literally no sense
Kabutops was always my favorite fossil pick in gen 1. I would get upset when I made it all the way to Cinnabar and they give me Omanyte and not Kabuto 😅
I never had the chance to pick the fossils until FRLG, but I'd always pick Kabuto over Omastar, even though Omastar is the better mon until later generations!
Ideally, wouldn't you want to name all of your Pokemon the same thing? Like make it a single letter or something like that so that text speed always goes at the same rate for every run. The time added from the extra letters which need to be rendered and displayed multiple times in every battle can really add up over the course of the challenge.
Absolutely not. Part of the fun of doing the challenges is to give each Pokémon their own personality. Yes, there is a little bit of time to be saved by naming Pokémon a single character, but the benefits are far, far outweighed by the costs.
I can’t be the only one to never use the fossils as a kid, you’re telling me I have to level this thing with a trash moveset? Nah. Crobat and Starmie go brrrrr
I have been screwed over far too many times by Rollout to risk it these days - you commit for up to five turns, and if you miss, you're often taking a reset
I was trying to figure out what "End of the Line" meant, and the only other video with that title was Omastar. Is that a side series just for fossils or does it have some special significance?
Why on earth would we use Rollout - a move which starts off incredibly weak, has only 90% accuracy, and locks you in for five turns when we have other moves which are super effective and 100% accurate against all of Lance's Pokémon? The healing loop at the end is a hell of a lot quicker than using Rollout, waiting for it to build, and hoping that the RNG goes out way.
Great run!
My recommendation for a pairing for these challenges would be Persian and Raichu as Tom and Jerry :D

Elemental Birds (Zapdos et al) Vs the Legendary Hounds (Suicune et al)
Politoad & Poliwrath vs Sunflora & Bellossom
I suggest using the poison types Team Rocket loves so much as a duo/trio, with Weezing, Arbok, and/or Crobat
Kabutops really lost ground from losing swords dance from TM

OMG bedrill with sword dance
The hitmon trio and the slowking and slowbro duo
Slowking and Slowbro? 👀
@@Squidgy yeah one one strong on defense and the other one on sp defense and the slowking can be Malik 😂
It might have already been recorded, and the Slowking's name might have been Malik!
@@Squidgy thanks mate means a lot and love the content
Could do Arcanine v. Houndoom, Raichu v. Furret, Gyarados v. Quagsire v. Starmie. Maybe an Eeveeloution tournament.

Always preferred Kabutops over Omastar, but man, him losing out on Swords Dance really hurt his overall time
Fire Dogs:Arcanine and Houndoom

I absolutely want to see that trio do a run together.
All the early route birds from all the different generations!
Raticate vs alolan rat vs linoone vs obstagoon!
You run an Eeveelution series and separate them from Gen 1 and Gen 2 to make two separate runs. That would be fun 😃
That's a very good idea!
We're starting the regular Eeevelution videos next month, but once they've had their time to shine, I'll definitely be doing the Gen I and Gen II Eeveelutions in their own groups.
Who's King of the Rock? The happy, dancing, clapfrog Politoed vs the wise and thoughtfull Slowking.
I like that idea! I've already got Slowking vs Slowpoke in the schedule, so it'll have to be a split versus, but I'm absolutely going to compare the two at the end of the Politoed video.
Skipbloom vs Vilplume vs bellosom might work….grass flying vs grass poison vs pure grass
As I was about to suggest you comparing the comparable pokemon from Gen 1 and 2 to each other and you mentioned you would!

Would love to see richu vs azumarill the gen 1 mascot vs gen 2 pika clone

Gen 1 starters, Gen 2 starters, the pseudo legendaries Kingdra, Dragonite and Tyranitar, and why not throw Aerodactyl for the full fossil trio!
A good 2 pokemon rivals can be heracross and pinsir. Scizor can be added to them to make it a trio as i always remember the episode where heracross fights scizor and wins
I love this idea for a trio, but it wouldn't work out for the End of the Line series because Heracross and Pinsir don't evolve :(
Maybe they don’t evolve but all 3 have base stat total of 500 so they are equal 🙂it can be a fair run

Gym leader combos could be fun duo/trios. Primape and Poliwrath?
That's a fantastic idea, and it's gone onto the list!
What an absolutely dreadful level up learnset :0
It is truly horrific!
Suggestion for Trio, Houndour, Qwilfish and Skiploom
although his time was good i was expecting something crazy from kabutops considering its really high base attack defense and decently high speed but his move set just is not the greatest which probably held him back
Kabutops' big issue is the learnset - it doesn't have anything great to utilise its best stats!

When you have rollout on the moveset are you not just tempted to use it more? Especially against Lance.
I have been screwed over far too many times by Rollout to risk it these days - you commit for up to five turns, and if you miss, you're often taking a reset
Scizor meganium and dragonite
You probably can do another leaderboard for first stage & middle stage pokemon.
That's absolutely part of the plan! The middle stages are starting in January, and the first stages are happening later on next year!
Still my favourite Pokémon, regardless of the result.
Squidgy if no one else has said it what about the Hitmon trio?
The Hitmons are gonna get their main runs first, but in the new year, we'll get to doing those as a trio!
Too bad Kabutops only gets access to a decent rock move so late on. How does it not learn Rock Slide..
Rock Slide would have done so much to help Kabutops!
I was trying to figure out what "End of the Line" meant, and the only other video with that title was Omastar. Is that a side series just for fossils or does it have some special significance?
Hey! It'll become a lot clearer in the next video in the series - it's for the Pokémon who are at the end of an evolutionary line :)
I dunno why you aren't using Rollout against Lance.

Why does Kabutops learn Mega Drain via level up? lol
I asked myself the same thing when I looked at the learnset!
I think it’s a thematic choice from its Pokédex entry. “Kabutops slices its prey apart and sucks out the fluids”
Anime Team Rocket Trio.
Weezing - James
Arbok - Jessie
Persian - Meowth
trio runs sound fun :)
