    LUNE // LYRICS
Snow coming down now like December
Burning up in the summer rays
But I’m not stumbling like a pretender
Medicine is flowing through my veins
Heavy eyes, but the tongue won’t stutter
Mouths are moving and this heart is still fluttering
    I’m on my own
You found me in the cold
Now I am wrapped within the warmth of your touch
There’s never a moment that I let slip by in your eyes
Are we growing old and am I melting in the rays of this love?
Never ever gonna let you go
    Don’t let go
    Slow it down now
I cannot remember why I let them chew on my brain
They’ve come and left this town in smoldering embers
But, my dear I’ll die in your rain
Heavy eyes, but the tongue won’t stutter
Mouths are moving and this heart is still fluttering
    I’m on my own
You found me in the cold
Now I am wrapped within the warmth of your touch
There’s never a moment that I let slip by in your eyes
Are we growing old and am I melting in the rays of this love?
Never ever gonna let you go
    Don’t let go
    Do you feel the love?
    Yes I feel the love
Taste it, hold it, feel it, never let it go
    Do you feel the love?
    Yes I feel the love
    Do you feel the love?
    Yes I feel the love
Taste it, hold it, feel it, never let it go
    Do you feel the love?
    Yes I feel the love
    Don’t let go

Truly understand that. Metal is so unique. You don't fall in love with it by memorizing the chorus the first time you listen to it. You fall in love with the little riffs that most people don't really hear, you fall in love with the time changes. Knowing that someone took hours upon hours of their time to sit their and perfect that part is what makes you appreciate it. It's music that outcasts can relate to. It's so beautiful in its own way. It always has something new to offer. For all people who get turned off by heavy riffs and screams out their; GIVE IT A CHANCE! Listen to this album over and over again. I'm telling you art that needs effort from the viewer to understand is that art that you will appreciate in the end.

Spencer opened this song in Melbourne by saying: "We've played a lot of songs about a lot of things tonight, but there's one thing we don't talk about enough and that's love. Everyone loves someone, or has loved someone, so I know you can all feel me on this one, this song is called Lune" and it was fuckin' beautiful.

This is the most important song in my life. On dec 6th, 2019 my grandma died, the next day, my best friend/ roommate committed suicide shortly after returning from his first tour in Iraq, then 31 days later my grandfather passed away. After each one passed I immediately listened to this song. I was worried it would ruin it for me, but that’s the furthest thing from the truth. It does make me emotional, but it helps me think they’re all looking down on us, happy where they’re at. The lyrics “do you feel the love, yes I feel the love, chase it, hold it, feel it, never let it go” are imprinted in my brain forever. And don’t worry grandma, grandpa, and Hayden. I won’t. I love you all of you so much and I miss you more than words can explain. But my memories of all of you keep me going. Thank you periphery. Your music means more to me than you know.

I think of my grandfather, mymother and my aunt who both died of cancer and my grandfather at the old age of 94. My mom died in 2012 when I was 9 to breast cancer. "never gonna let you go" is a line that gets me because I didn't want my mom to give up the fight for cancer looking back at it. She was so strong to have gotten through 4 stages but she didn't make it. You are so strong to have gotten through what you've been though. Music speaks to us in so many ways. Love RUclips threads where it's actually appreciating the music instead of pointing out flaws

    • @FaZeBlumpkin
      @FaZeBlumpkin 8 лет назад +2

If the flaws arent pointed out the artists cant improve. Artists should more than welcome criticism. Doesnt mean they have to like or agree, but I hate the whole why is everyone hating when there are obvious flaws. Because this is touching new directions I dont necessarily fits this bands character. As a different band this would be good and dont get me wrong it's definitely periphery, just the direction is kind of shit. RUclipss like the only place I've seen any positive feedback because most these guys started listening a couple years ago. Obviously there needs to be a new direction but it seems like a lot of band are going the feminine route. Which is annoying, because it seems to me like a trend and not something that the band conceptualized and spent lots of time grinding on. They even said they kinda just did what they felt should be released now which is a little suspicious considering that trend thing I mentioned.

    • @MikeDrops94
      @MikeDrops94 8 лет назад +28

To your first point, I'd say that bands could not give a dusty fuck about youtube comments and the opinions within them.
To your second point, about the "feminine route", I know you are entitled to your opinion, but that couldn't sound more ridiculous. If you think this is too feminine or whatever you could even mean by that, then maybe it says a lot more about your near sighted perception than it does to the actual music. If melody and harmony and orchestral style metal is seen as girly for you, then you obviously aren't a periphery fan.

    • @FaZeBlumpkin
      @FaZeBlumpkin 8 лет назад +3

Maybe I should have been more clear. Spencer. You hear it all the time and usually I disagree. I like spencer. But not in this album. Hes singing like a metrosexual pop artist. Epecially with the sighs and grunts and whines at the end of certain parts that have always kind have been there but this time around its all I can hear. And its not a bad thing per se but not what I want to hear in periphery. The instrumentals were great but I feel like they were kind of there to complment spencers singing. I feel kind of like this is the spencer show in a way, hes so much more prominent and the focus, and id love that if he wasn't singing like a bitch. About the second thing they actually do go through the comments here and on other social media, and sometimes youll even get a reply. Does that mean they take all the criticism on here? No, in fact I guarantee they ignore most of it but dont tell me they havent gotten some good points from people online

    • @MikeDrops94
      @MikeDrops94 8 лет назад +13

Well like I said, totally cool for you to have a differing opinion. I just think you're being a bit dramatic about the vocals. Plenty of sweet and badass bands have vocals with what you would call a "whiny" falsetto style, Northlane or sometimes Erra even. It's just the clean style of metal, it's not nonsense he's hitting serious notes that only Periphery can keep up with. The dude has the range of an 88 key piano and you are calling him metro for it, when Periphery has done this since they switch to Spencer.
Also every comment on the internet is to be taken with a grain of salt. No matter the context, it's the internet.

    • @arick6601
      @arick6601 8 лет назад +4

+douglas hitchens flaws are relative. If you think it's a flaw so be it. But you forget the most important thing; you are not in Periphery. What you see as a flaw the band may see as a strength. I have been jamming this band since they started and I jammed bulb's songs before that and I can honestly say they have come a long way. The reason you may have preferred Spencer's vocals in the earlier stuff was because he was mostly imitating Casey's style and even singing a lot of the material Casey wrote. There's a reason why Spencer was added and I think this band would not be close to what they are now without him. He is as much of Periphery as Misha, Mark, Matt, and Jake are.(not to sure about Nolly at this point) Not trying to start a fight, just stating my opinion just as you are.

This song honestly applies to circumstances in my life pretty accurately. Back in December I was homeless after getting laid off from work. One night a gentleman found me nearly frozen to death walking down the street delerious with hypothermia. After helping me receive medical attention and whatnot, he decided to introduce me to a young lady he was friends with at a party. Hearing of my predicament, she offered to let me live with her for a while. About a year later that young lady and I are engaged and expecting a baby, she quite literally saved my life. I've no doubt I would have either died from exposure or offed myself had I not met her and had a reason to keep going.

Folks, as long as you are not in a toxic relationship, dont let it go. Talk about what feels wrong with your partner, what you would like to change, try, forget, even if it seems foolish, or out of reach.
If you are truly where you belong, your calling will find it's way, and you will be loved for what you are.

Juggernaut was Spencer's first time to really express himself and his talents, but within the constraints of maintaining a theme and specific feel for the concept. Spencer does not, wait, he is *incapable* of crooning. It's physically impossible for him it seems. What he habitually does though is use a really distracting, conspicuous, slightly raspy, emo-ish (forgive the term) head voice in the stanzas of most Periphery songs. He excels in the high notes though.

Fuck...... I am and Idiot. The first time I heard periphery (keep in mind this was when I was in my phase of being a huge fan of dudes like drake and wiz Khalifa) I was like "wtf is this shit? It just sounds like a bunch of screaming and sounds" but I kept listening cus my friend told me they are good. And God was he right! I started listening to periphery when juggernaut first came out and at the time you could call me a Virgin to metal. Yeah i listened to Metallica, but really I didn't know much about metal. My friend who I worked with who was an amazing musician on both drums and guitar introduced me to periphery and at first I couldn't stand it. But for some reason I kept listening and i can honestly say to this day they have changed my whole outlook on music as and art-form, as and industry, as a genre, as I listened to p2 on repeat for a week in my car I slowly fell in love. That's the thing about metal, it's not pop! As obvious as that sounds it's amazing how people don't

    The snow coming down now
Like December, burning up in the summer rays
But I'm not stumbling, like a pretender
    Medicine flowing through my veins
Heavy eyes but the tongue won't stutter
Mouths are moving and this heart's still fluttering
    I'm on my own
You found me in the cold,
Now I am wrapped within the warmth of your touch
There's never a moment that I'd let slip by, in your eyes
    Are we growing old
And am I melting in the rays of this love?
Never ever gonna let you go
    Don't let go
    Never gonna let you go
    Slow it down now
    I cannot remember
Why I let them chew on my brain
They've come and left this town
    In smouldering embers
But, my dear, I'll die in your rain
Heavy eyes but the tongue won't stutter
Mouths are moving and this heart's still fluttering
    I'm on my own
You found me in the cold,
Now I am wrapped within the warmth of your touch
There's never a moment that I'd let slip by in your eyes
    Are we growing old
And am I melting in the rays of this love?
Never ever gonna let you go
    Don't let go
    Do you feel the love?
    Yes, I feel the love
Chase it, hold it, feel it, never let it go
    Do you feel the love?
    Yes, I feel the love
    Do you feel the love?
    Yes, I feel the love

I remember listening to this song a couple years ago on my way home from college. I was taking public transportation and at one stop an elderly man and his wheelchair-bound wife boarded. After the driver secured her into place the husband reclined her chair backwards a little bit so she could lay back. She looked sedated and maybe even a little disoriented. The whole trip he had his hand gripped to hers and, at one point, leaned in and kissed her on her head. Warmed me right on up seeing that especially with this song playing while doing so.

Coming here to the comment section really shows how powerful of a song this is. Everyone coming here sharing a story of a pretty hard setback or life altering tragedy, and how this song helped them power through it. Music that has 100% raw emotion in every note, strummed, sang, or hit. It seems like there’s not enough of that in mainstream music today. Things like THIS is what deserves to be heard and blasted loud by everyone.

I have a strange interpretation of this song and I know it’s not what’s intended but I’ll share anyway. I see it as a continuation of Flatline, someone has attempted to kill themselves and is coming out of a coma. But upon returning to consciousness the person sees all their friends who really care about the person. The person feels such an intense feeling of love from all of their friends and family that they decide to try to live on, get help, and never hurt themselves again.

Hey man, hang in there. I went through it too a couple of years ago. My ex was my best friend and found out she had been having an affair. It fucking crushed me and still fucks me up a little to think about it. But just keep going, man. Music was a really big part of me working through things. The band Woods of Ypres was the band that really hit home for me during all that shit. But things started to feel a little better day by day as time passes. Just do what you do and do the things that make you happy. Things will work out for the better in the end (at least that's what they tell me). One of the shitty things about it was that its thought that dudes, especially bearded and tattooed metal dudes, cant get their heart broken. But trust me, man. There are lots of us out there. So like another commenter said, just ask if you ever need advice or want to get shit off your chest.

Wow, Periphery managed to make another totally original album. There are a few gems and I’m really about it. The Opener ‘The Price Is Wrong” is probably the weakest song on the album and it still slays. It’s heavy, straightforward, and brutal. Spencer’s harsh’s stand out as does the drummer and a great guitar solo. Next, Motormouth. This song has some serious grooves in the beginning, has a PI vibe to it. Catchy too. There is a very brutal part with a guitar descending down notes that are at odds with each other. It’s brutal and well done. Later in the song there is a massive breakdown. Very PI indeed. Ending is super killer. They show off their musicianship here. Then, one of the best songs, Marigold. This is very Alpha Omega sounding. Brooding beginning, with some driving bass. Listen to Matt on that china. Spencer shines here. Super catchy and melodic. Spencer screams “I guess I’ll just leave things they way they areeeee….” and it assaults your senses. Very Pink Floyd ish outro here. Great with headphones. Then another GEM on this album.
‘The Way The News Goes” is this albums musical pinnacle. This has Mark written all over it. Just before halfway through the song with some amazing clean harmonies, there are a few happy blast beats and then some great technical guitar work. Very bouncy. Listen to just after "we're shining and it shows", this AWESOME stocatto guitar piece that gets layered the second and third time stands out as a unique part on this album. Very Alpha ish with a little PII and something totally PIII. Soul wrenching piano outro. Wow.
Then, the best song ON THIS ALBUM: REMAIN INDOORS. Who is this? Devin Townsend? Super progressive. Backing ah’s ("I'm holding position, AHHH") , background palm muted notes, big thick chords, some electronic faint bouncing thing that eventually comes through as an outer space dripping wet and well reflected synth keys. We haven’t heard something quite like this from Periphery. More string later in this song too, something they have started adding. More space noises, but somehow they keep it all coherent and not sloppy or choppy. Towards the end I get some Dream Theater vibes. This has Misha’s B6 progression here. I hear Korn (yes believe or not), as well as The Contortionist here, too.
Then we come to one of the heavier songs Periphery has done in Habitual Line Stepper. We really haven’t heard Periphery make a brutal song in this same fashion. Well, some parts are familiar, very PI sounding, but also some newer exploration of guitar in the beginning before the heavy hits. We get even more Violin or Viola here. Some concerto stuff going on. Marigold uses a very similar string interlude like this song. This is a very dark and emotional song with an atmosphere. Warning and tragedy are at large. The ending is brutal. There is a electric key synth similar to the one noted before that plays at the same time Spencer goes BLEH as my head is being pounded in by that machine gun firing guitar and drum work.
Flatline is another GEM. HUGE beginning. This is the 2nd best song on the album. PII vibes, Alpha vibes. SO catchy. Wow. As catchy as Alpha, 22 Faces, and Scarlet. Even Erised or Have A Blast like. Super chill break, cleans, lots of reverb. Very uplifting. I wish Spencer had one more chance to really belt out “SLEEP NOW AND CARRY ON ANOTHER NIGHT..” in harmony over the original chorus because it’s a very emotional part of the song. Heavy sludging to end the song. Top notch.
Absolomb is next with it’s HUGE Tesseract like bass line opening. There is some strange time signature stuff that is going on here with how the guitars play together with everyone. Spencer suddenly comes in over this. This is a PI song that is PII inspired. Long drawn out notes by Spencer. Less staccato. Long driving notes. Really becomes great. Almost Incubus like (2:19), but with serious Periphery flavor. It’s a PI song made in P3 era, with nods to PII. More strings, here, a seriously rare TOP NOTCH stringed and piano interlude thing. I would listen to an entire minimalistic album like this. Beautiful. Movie soundtrack like. These guys are gods.
Catch Fire. Many people’s favorite song. I find PI, PIII, Tesseract, RHCP, and some more poppy 80’s thing going on. Bass stands out. This song is super creative. Periphery is showing they can play very progressive ROCK music here, that is actually worth listening to. This stuff is good. They could make a progressive jazz punk like bands next and it would slay. Superb atmosphere towards the end. Cleans, layers of cleans. Spencer shows off.
Prayer Position is straight off PII with vocal improvement. You can hear Spencer’s voice GRATE together with a floating quality when he screams “ON MY THROAT…TURN IT ALL OFF”. This song features a huge riff. Spencer also sounds possessed “throw it down in a hole…EEYAHHHHH”. Them comes the odd harmonic noises that sound like they used the metal fretting as the tapping location instead of the fret. Sounds like space demons are in my room.
Lastly, Lune. At almost eight minutes long we have a journey of a song. Very airy, atmospheric beginning. Synths. Percussion gently comes in. Patience. It will pay off big time. Boom, we groove, with some beautiful bass and key harmonies going on. A super cool ambience here. Amazing musicianship. The band shows such comprehension today of how to create dynamics. Yes Spencer is found with more high cleans. But it comes off as inspiring instead of annoying. Super catchy and super emotional halfway through. More strings in the background. Blended very well. This is a BALLAD folks. The first "never gunna let you go" almost hits, but backs off and fades away, leaving us crestfallen.
But, as I said, patience. Heavy drums, strings, ok half time "I'm on my own...I am wrapped in the warmth of your touch...are we growing old am...never ever gunna let you go..DON'T LET GOOOOOO!" ..and then this absolute PERFECT hook of “Do you feel the love? Yes I feel the love, taste it, hold it, feel it, never let it go” ....wait is this Periphery?! Yes it is. Am I ok with this? I think I am. I am. Yep I am loving this. Guitars back off and hit hard in an inspiring march towards the close of the song and album. This is anthem-y. This is new ground here for Periphery. This is progressive as there are almost elements of bands dating back to the 1970’s.
This album is top notch. PII/I (in in my case, A/O) may still be the beloved of this band, but this album shows that Periphery can stay the same and yet hit new sounds, expand their musicianship and creativity, and explore other genres.

Nick Johnson This isn't about just me. It's about everyone in the world who isn't Nick Johnson.
The rules of formatting were invented so that writing is easy to read and understand. _Especially_ long messages with hundreds of words. There's a reason that "walls of text" are universally despised on the internet.
It takes a lot less effort for the writer to follow the basic rules of grammar and paragraph formatting, than for the reader to navigate a lazy and incompetent writer's wall of text. You disrespect the reader by sharing your thoughts with writing that is a struggle to read.
Most importantly, you disrespect yourself by creating TL;DR walls of text that nobody wants to read. It costs absolutely nothing for me or anyone else to skip your comment. But it took you thousands of times more effort and energy to write it. You sell yourself short more than anyone else.
Why do you think Tyler Maldonado's response to everything you wrote was a simple and sarcastic, "ok?"
Your writing is objectively bad. Stop making excuses and trying to make it about how I feel. You learned better than this in school. They teach everyone how to write properly for a good reason. Improve yourself.

    • @nsjohn130
      @nsjohn130 8 лет назад +14

+Eincrou Skip over it next time. And just fyi, it's not hard to read a wall of text. And if it is particularly hard for you, consider this practice. You're choosing to be difficult to prove some point. This is about you. You've made it about you. If you don't like my comment then click down, but don't waste my time commenting as my email alerts me. Did your email alert you when I wrote that comment? No, it didn't. You could have passed on by it if it upset you so much.

It's been over a year since this album was released but only just had a chance to listen. Personally, this sing could have not been discovered at a better time for me, just after I suffered my first heartbreak. I don't think i've ever listened to a more perfect piece of music which conveys my exact emotions in this present moment. Meeting you guys was also a pleasure and a dream come true so i really hope periphery sees this comment:
To Misha: Thank you for messing up your own hair as we took a photo together as i said mine was fucked up, you made me feel a lot better. Also thank you for giving me your last guitar pic, it was a great honour sir.
To Jake: Thank you for giving me back the high 5 i gave you.
To Matt: We didn't really get a chance to meet but thank you for laying down those awesome grooves!
To Nolly: Thanks for making me look like an idiot and correcting me when i thought your bass was a 4 string instead of 5
To Mark: It was awesome talking to you about riffs and giving me the inspiration to keep going, also the photos came out awesome
To Spencer: Thanks for saying goodbye back to me as i said bye, and thank you for keeping the band down
To Periphery: Thank you for being all that you are, your music is a soundtrack to my life in which i can slip into a different persona with each one.
DO YOU FEEL THE LOVE? ........YES I FEEL THE LOVE.
    Forever a fan
    Your Truly

@@cescabhi so across a few of their albums there are lyrical and sometimes musical moments which repeat across the albums span, in Periphery II, there was the "somewhere in time" theme that was in Muramasa, Ragnarok and Masamune, the Juggernaut albums are absolutely littered with musical and lyrical moments that repeat, in Periphery III, a musical moment is repeated in The Way The News Goes..., Absolomb and Lune, and the same for Periphery 4 in the songs listed above, looking back on my old comment I can't remember where something repeats in Satellites that was in Reptile and Garden in the Bones, the lyrical and musical theme in them being the, "The Claim we stake, a land within our wake" in Garden, and "The claim they stake the land from us they take" in Reptile, sharing common lyrics and lyrical melody

Metal is very complex music. With all that Javin Maillet said below in his post plus various guitar tunings played on 6,7,8 and even 9 string guitars, octave stacks, abrupt melody changes, seemingly impossible speed at times...... The best metal I listen to had to be acquired, like a fine whiskey on the rocks or even beer. Few people liked the taste of beer when they first tried it and now LOVE the stuff. The best muscians,, hand, hands down, come from heavy metal. Periphery is an exceedingly rare gathering of talent and chemistry, RARELY seen. Introduce yourself to them slowly with patience, and you will experience why Heavy Metal is the most amazing of all forms of music.
    Peace

There's absolutely no need for anyone to dislike this song. Not saying everyone should love it.
