    Great sound straight off the board. I'm a yank, but I saw the Buzzcocks on their first U.S. tour. The support act was Gang of Four and that September 1980 concert
    stands out as the very first time my friends and I felt connected with what was happening in England. Filthy small club called Mother's ...by the end of the sets the dancefloor was soaked with beer and a few inches deep in broken bottles. I was standing next to Andy Gill from Gang of Four watching Pete Shelley lead the Buzzcocks through their set. Magic. Sweaty. Loud. Fun. Beautiful. Thank you Pete Shelley. Thank you Andy Gill. You have made our lives better.

      Skimming through my vids, it looks like I do have the Buzzcocks show at Mother's in Chicago, but dated September 9, 1979. I believe they only ran in the northeast US in 1980, and more towards thanksgiving time. Could this be the show you were at? ruclips.net/video/VpAz9XAKe6k/видео.html

      You've got it right. Because in September of 1979 the only record by Gang of Four we could get our hands on in the States was the single on "Fast Product" Records, Damaged Goods, Love Like Anthrax and Armalite Rifle. By 1980 they had an LP and more available.
      Wow it's a great clean recording and I can hear some of my pals being loud and stupid in the crowd. THIS WAS A BREAKTHROUGH EVENT FOR WHICH I HAD NO IDEA EXISTED A RECORDING.
      Thank you so much, Fullmetal Archivist.

      I saw Buzzcocks on their first two full U.S. tours - definitely September and then December 1979. We got so many English bands late in their early careers, especially on the West Coast. Buzzcocks, The Clash, Siouxsie and The Banshees etc. all were around for 3 years before they finally made it over to our shores. It was really frustrating as a fan.

    Boy were they ever a phenomenal live band! I'm so fortunate to have seen them at various stages during their career but, not quite this early. They were a magnificent pop band but, their music was a lot more complex and varied than merely pop/love songs...the Krautrock and, even prog elements are outstanding and, what a tremendous rhythm section! John Maher, entirely self taught was all of 18 years old here! Having only begun playing drums not long before joining Buzzcocks in 1976

    Feeling like I'm sixteen again. Went to see them with Joy Division supporting a year after this in November 1979. What a great band. This period and it's music certainly defined me. Feel the same now as I felt then (and I was actually 16 in 1979!). RIP Pete - you will be missed but not forgotten.

    It's hard to fathom this now, but only 18 months separate the first three monumental Buzzcocks albums. This show was about 5 weeks after the release of their second, "Love Bites". They totally nail the songs and slay the hometown crowd here.

      @TheBeatnikbandito Your memory’s failing you. The Alleycats and The Zippers opened for Buzzcocks at Orrin Tucker’s Stardust Ballroom on December 12th 1979, not The Go-Go’s. I was there. John Maher bought two baseball bats that afternoon and demolished his kit at the end of the show.

I got to see them with the Avengers in Orange County here less than 7 years ago...was a bucket list achievement, if ever was. Spectacular recording and wonderfully shared thanx so much (understatement ), really cheers me up too. Don't think I'll ever stop loving this blessed music. • @StevenParrisWard
      @StevenParrisWard 6 лет назад +3

      Checked that. There was in fact a later gig on the 12th of November also at the Apollo with Subway Sect, which was the one I went to. This early one must have been part of the Beating Hearts tour with the Slits. I remember Shelley complained about the new PA and amps at the later one I went to. They had just got the new sound system, which kept cutting out. Diggle kept kicking the preamps to try and make them work. They played exactly the same set and other than the odd cut out in between songs sounded just as good as this performance.
