KELANTAN, MALAYSIA - If you’re looking for amazing Malaysian food, Kelantan is a state that’s unique, cultural, and has some of the best food in Malaysia.
During trips to Kuala Lumpur over the years, I had tried a number of Kelantanese dishes, but that only increased my desire to eventually visit the source, to visit Kelantan, Malaysia. Finally, this was our chance, and we went on a Malaysian food tour of Kelantan, around Kota Bharu.
Here’s all the amazing food we ate in this video:
Nasi Kerabu Panji - Without a doubt, one of the Malaysian foods you don’t want to miss when you visit Kelantan is nasi kerabu, rice salad, but it’s so much more than that. It’s a breakfast dish and we first started at Nasi Kerabu Panji, a local favorite spot. You get blue rice, topped with salad and side dishes, drizzled in budu fermented fish sauce, and topped with you choice of main mean. It was extraordinary.
Price - About 8 MYR ($1.96) per plate
Jijah's Nasi Kerabu - Since nasi kerabu is one of the top Malaysian foods of the state of Kelantan, we decided to have two nasi kerabu’s back to back, but totally different styles and even different colors of rice. Jijah's Nasi Kerabu specializes in grilled goat, and it was incredible, highly recommended when you visit Kelantan, Malaysia.
Price - 4.50 MYR ($1.10) per plate
Siti Khadijah Market - One of the top attractions in Kota Bharu is Siti Khadijah Market, a beautiful colorful market where you can buy all the ingredients from Kelantan and there’s also an amazing cooked food section. Laksam - 3.50 MYR ($0.86) per bowl - I had a bowl of laksam, a Kelantan Malaysian food version of laksa. Akok - 1 MYR ($0.24) for 2 - Later we also tried akok, a popular and local Kelantanese dessert.
D'Umi Nasi Ulam - Another Malaysian food you don’t want to miss eating in Kelantan is nasi ulam, rice with raw vegetables, and a mix of dishes, all eaten specifically with budu - fermented anchovy sauce. This restaurant was amazing, a huge mix of dishes, friendly owner, and delicious food. Of course, we couldn’t resist the tempoyak - fermented durian paste.
Kak Jah Ayam Percik Bulatan Lemal - Finally to end this Malaysian street food tour of Kelantan, we had some ayam percik, a coconut milk barbecue sauce dish that originates in Kelantan. We barely arrived in time, but luckily got the last few skewers.
Ayam percik - 16 MYR ($3.93) per big skewer
Kelantan is an amazing state in Malaysia to eat Malaysian street food and I thoroughly enjoyed my visit, the incredible food, and friendly people.

Im a Malaysian Indian, kelantan food is my favourite... nasi kerabu is to die for.
My wife and I are flying to Malaysia in four weeks, and my mouth is watering in anticipation of tasting the incredible food. Thank you to you guys for such a fabulous video. Love to Malaysia.
Malaysia is my FAVORITE COUNTRY in the entire world to travel to. This is why.
@Kay Flip I think Thailand and Singapore does better marketing than our tourism guys. Glad you recognized beyond the marketing.

So colorful. I love the Muslim people my heart hurts how they are viewed in the US, when I was in Albania and Kosova they were all so sweet.
would u be a muslim?
Says the Muslim lol
That's because Malaysian Muslim aren't Arabs.
No offense but arabs have this violent nature, maybe its because of their past. However they made the middle east an interesting place to live in (to me)

Stupid people would say that, it's the people not the religion.
I lived in UK for 5 months and lost 10kg there. When i came back to Malaysia, i gained back my 10kg. Now I live in Japan for a year and already lost 10kg. I think i will gain back my 10kg when i comeback to Malaysia in April. I’ve travelling around 20 countries, but to be honest, south-east asian food (malaysia, indonesia, india, thailand, etc etc) is the best.
I’m a proud Malaysian. :)
Both the UK and Japan have very different foods than the ones you were raised on, and the amount of coconut and coconut milk/cream used in Malaysia adds a lot of calories. I make Thai curries and if I do it too often I start gaining weight.
Little Dikkins yeah totally true! Japanese food is so healthy and i really like sushi. Just enjoying my japanese food before going back :)
Me too, proud Malaysian!

@Ron D. be quiet child
@Ron D.I feel ashamed that a grown man shows so much ignorance and has to disturb a woderful foodvlogpage with nonsense and sexists and racist comment. First of all my daughter is a young wonderful woman, second of all you asume all europeans are white?? There are very few situations the colour of the skin matters and here it most definately doesn´t. Comments like yours brings shame to black men. Instead you should be proud and be a good role model and also adult enough to know when to be quiet.

what is so strange about women working alongside men??? we work alongside women all the time in lots of work places .
@@billyblooboy Strange? Well I didn't say strange, what I mean is, in most of the places or cultures women does the house work..but here I see both the genders working equally outside..I see gender equality man.
In the UK women go to work like men do and do the house work when they come home .And the men help too .I suppose in non western cultures women are meant to know their place a lot more and generally by force and against their real desires to be more independent and free to choose what they can do .So I suppose you are kind of right I just forgot that so many women still live lives where they must live under oppression or suffer the consequences so yes on reflection you are correct .I guess I was just not thinking on the same plain as you were .

If any of you are thinking about visiting Kota Bharu (KB) for holiday or shopping or whatever... let me give you a pro tip, don't go there during any of the Malaysia Public Holiday. Kelantanese got a culture of working outside Kelantan called "merantau". They will usually return to their hometown during the long public holiday. Making nearly 1 Million cars entering Kota Bharu in span of 2-3 days during that short period of time. The traffic will be hell. You could be stuck on the road for nearly 4-5 hours. Visit KB during any other period of time, you will be fine.

"Let's taste each other.." - Mark Wiens 2019
That was food heaven right there! You're probably aware Mark, but just in case you're not, the pickled garlic is a game changer in gaeng hung ley. It absolutely takes the dish to another level
I’d love to see more of you cooking some of the dishes you try Mark, seeing as you go to the markets where all the ingredients are sold. Love your videos! Keep up your great work. 😀
