  • Recently at the Jamaica 60 celebration many people would have seen the aerial drone light show. This was done by using hundreds of unmanned aerial vehicles called Drones. Drones are not new to Jamaica, however, their use is becoming increasingly popular for work and play.
Partner at DunnCox, Kelly Akin discussed the regulations surrounding their use and penalties that one could face if not operated properly, on this episode of The Legal Landscape on The Edge 105 FM.

This was very informative... We are in Jamaica vacationing at 1 of your resorts. I attempted to launch my drone, but it would not allow me. That's what led me to you. Big respect from Baltimore, Maryland USA.

Deep sigh. Mankind seems not to understand that they’re temporary.

I’m confused. I’m taking a trip to Jamaica with my wife next month, and I do plan to fly my drones. So, at one point in this video, at 5:04 the person says there’s no permit required for recreational drone flying. Then later, I think at the 6:20 mark, she says drones cannot be flown over public or private property without permission, and she added from the “owner”. So I’m confused, who is the owner of public property? According to my travel agent the resort where we’ll be staying doesn’t allow drone flights, but apparently it’s ok to take off and land near it. Because there’s several beautiful videos of it on RUclips. Couples Tower Isle. I saw the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority website and there’s an email address to request a permit . So does this meet the requirements of “permission”? I mean, there’s lots of aerial drone videos from all over Jamaica so apparently it’s a very popular thing to do. I just don’t want to break some law, rules, regulations, etc.
