HOLLY CRAP! You seriously push that thing to the limit!!! I was nervous it was going to clip that tree on the emergency descent. haha! Now only if we could ride the mavic, I wouldn't need a car anymore...
I respect you so much for this man! Just got my Mavic, and im skeptical about things like this. I am glad there are people like you that take their drone to the limit! Also ignore those people in the comments talking about FAA regulations, because frankly, they know about next to nothing. Cheers Mate!
Great video Chris. The flight was enjoyable but your antics were even more fun. I guess you know that running the battery down that low is going to shorten its life span but it was worth it just to say you did it. The farthest I've gone with the Mavic is 3.5 miles one-way and still had 2-3 bars on the video icon. I did find that when you get a ways out having the antennae pointed at it is critical. On that trip if I moved the controller a half inch off it would lose video.
wow the footage from the mavic looks like its on rails in the sky. I am amazed just watching the horizon... its so perfectly level the whole time! putting the video on 2x speed really shows how incredible it is!! man I want one so bad :D
yeah its actually surreal the amount of horizontal stability in this footage. I am sure some multi million dollar helicopters with hasselblad setups aren't this stable for the amount of time that mavic was..
That was fun! Back in the day we use to do cross country with remote control sailplanes from the back of pickups. No on board camera. No motor after a rubber band launch. Had to find the lift. Ok, I didn't do it personally. But I watched it. I was to poor back then for that stuff. My 14 year old son and me (59) get our 'spark' today!
A few comments about leaving the camera protector on and an overheating issue. DJI has confirmed that enough air gets through the protector that it isn't an issue. In fact they designed so it could be left on for new users so they don't accidentally break the gimbal on landings. On thi particular flight Chris has stated it was 40 F. that day so even at maximum speed it wouldn't overheat.
I live in Henderson but I'm a real estate appraiser that has worked that area for over 20 years. I know the road well. Very nice flight! TO think I'm nervous about flying mine 1.6 miles to my parents house this weekend! Great job guys!
I think Amazon would be interested in this data. Congratulations on the amazing success with this awesome experiment . I can see a new extreme sport where you race across the desert in off road trucks while flying the drone. Then just for kicks allow the other team to shoot at it. DeathDrone RACE! Great Job and what an Adventure.
Chris, you’re a wild man! I think about doing the things you do, but don’t have the nerve to actually do them. Thanks for satisfying my curiosity! Be safe. J
That was one incredible flight. Years ago we made an experimental electric airplane. It was powered by a primary lithium battery. An air time of three minutes was considered superb. Fantastic how far technology has come.
Cracking me up again Chris...I was flying over a lake from a boat to catch the wake boarding. when it low battery I tried to bring it to the boat to catch but soon as the hands went under it would climb. Did this until it said "screw you..I'm going home to land" which was our starting point also in the middle of the lake. by the time I figured out how to cancel it got the "critical low" warning and said "LANDING NOW!" In the middle of the lake from 10 feet. My heart was racing and I was in full panic mode but figured out how to cancel and fly back to the boat but the battery was so low it was having trouble keeping altitude. My buddy had to jump up and grab it and cut his finger on the props. Learned SOOOO much on that flight. Hilarious looking back but scary as hell during this event.
Guys, that was incredible! And you had it all covered so well. You had personal view, being able to see, not just one but Both of you at all times; you had Drone view, pic from the drone covering path flown at all times, from take off to landing; Plus, you even provided the mapped route displayed at all times. Guys, that was fantastic! Very, VERY well done! And, like you said, ALL from ONE battery!!! I hope DJI sent y'all KUDOS for that! You sure deserve it! Excellent advertising for them! Thank you, guys, for the Ride Along! So well executed! (new sub, for shur) Lookin' forward to more excursions! :D :D :D I thoroughly enjoyed that! Again, Thank you!
Nice test. I can't view the video or listen to the audio right at this moment, so forgive me if you covered this: What was the wind speed and direction relative to your flight direction? And I wonder if you'd get different results at different speeds (i.e., a measure of efficiency)? I've noticed that flying the Mavic in Sport mode at higher speeds really sucks down the battery.
Finally got to listen to your video, where you did talk about the wind speed and that it was a tailwind and you were in Sport mode. Awesome that the Mavic handled so well in those conditions. Good test report!
When doing this, you can change your home point, should have two options, radio location or drone location, just find an open area, set it real quick, and keep flying. That way, should it return to home, it doesn't go ALL the way back to where you started from.
My guess is you were flying in Sport Mode to achieve over 40 mph, correct? Have you ever received a "battery over discharge" warning while flying full speed forward in sport mode? I just got this warning the other day.
Was on the fence about phantom 4 or mavic pro purchase. No debate now! Thanks for an awesome vid, not sure I'd have the balls to pull this off on a + $1000 investment. You guys rock!
Awesome video Chris - Love my Mavic - thanks for sharing this experiment - I can't believe how far you flew - I've talked about doing that with my Mavic but now I know the results - was neat to see it doing 43MPH as well - so cool - I don't usually run in Sport mode (too nerve wracking :) - Subbed to see more drone vids
is it possible the batery consuming higher when you are far away from your radio, i mean coz mavic long range can be around 7km .3.5km going and 3.5km backing.
You know you can change the Critical Battery Level so it doesn't Auto-Land when it gets to 10%? Change the settings next time you attempt this. Then you won't have to worry about it coming down when you don't want it to. But, keep an eye on the Battery level though and bring it down before it gets to 2-3%
You said the bad comments would be coming but to be totally honest I think that the way you did it although risky was better than a lot of other ways I’ve seen it done. Most of the clips for distance tests are done with no planning. Wind isn’t factored in and certainly no VLOS. You did break a few regulations but to be honest I feel like what u did was less risky than many others I’ve seen. You weren’t flying over crowds of people. You maintained VLOS for the most part. You took note of wind speed and direction and adjusted accordingly. I suppose u forgot that at critical battery 10 % that it will auto land. But I enjoyed this video greatly!!! I don’t think u put anyone in danger here🙂 not even little mavic.
When i first seen this video i thought y'all was just random guys playing with the drones but I see that y'all professionals and I love your videos random guys playing with the drones but I see that you're professionals my favorite one is when y'all was shooting some type of gun at the drones and you said in the meantime I have a fixer upper also the tug-of-war drones.
I was wondering if you could have preprogrammed that trip with waypoints and just followed it? You should make a video of doing that next. Just kinda follow the drone as it makes its programmed flight. You are giving me sooo many ideas man!!😃
I understand well your ... soooo light and windy jitters Chris, was caffeine free? Interesting mission. A pity that you didn't also well adjusted your footage exposures, both from air and from the car, terribly dark, exposure easily adjustable, in automatic or in manual setting. The right wheel adjusts the exposure time also during the recording. I understand well that the priority of your mission was different, but it was also very easy to consider this point without difficulty, just with the histogram overlayed on the screen you can see exposition errors and compensate.
Chris Rollins, i am from São Paulo Brazil and i am watching some videos from Mavic in order to decide if I going to buy it! but I have no doubt after your video!
Wow, you was almost my neighbor!! I am living close to Morumbi Shop. I am planning doing the same flight as yours above Marginal Pinheiros road (which follows the river) but, first I need to buy my Mavic. At end of April I intend to go to Massachusetts and I'd to buy it at Amazon and ask to shipped it there. Do you have any indication to buy it?
that will be an impressive flight! I used to drive that road everyday going to school! Please send me the video :) What do you mean by "indication"? I have a link you can use to purchase the Mavic click.dji.com/AL4U55QvpKhmREbv9Kk?pm=link Im not sure it will give a discount, but DJI includes free shipping on all there orders!
thank man! for this video i left it in 108p at 24 fps because i knew it would be small on the screen regardless. Usually i leave it in 2.7k at 24 fps though
Do do you have your part 107? Because if I recall correctly it only ok to fly from a car in sparsely populated areas. But there are some other restrictions as well. But either way, impressive flight.
Gat App Technologies I have my part 107 and the law does state that you cannot operate a UAS From a moving vehicle unless it’s in a sparsely populated area
Chris, do you have a reason for flying in "Sport" mode? I thought that drains the battery faster. Was it because you were in a car that needed to go faster than 30 MPH? If you hit the power button one time I think it silences the lower battery warning. I think you would have gotten 5-6 more minutes in reg "P-mode"
TekSone in p mode (position) the mavic fly's only up to 15mph I believe but in s (sport) it fly's up to 40mph so he will have to have it on to be able to stay with the car and also get there faster
Did you disable return home? I was expecting that thing to book to where you started when battery was low. Doesn't that thing have manual mode? That should always be available for you to take control.
so when return home engages, you have about 5 seconds to cancel it. it did pop up on my screen, and I cancelled it. i was in gps mode for the flight, and when it started the emergency land, i could move it foreword back and left right, but not up. So i was able to dodge the trees, but not regain altitude.
Hey Man, I recently purchased a Phantom 4, really fun to fly. I cannot imagine trying that, I'll be too afraid I fly into a plane or something... What is that in your drone video, something was kind of in the way all the time...? Safe flying mate
Pieter Smuts ah! The mavic comes with a clear, dome shaped cover to protect the camera when transporting it. I left it on for the flight, just in case of a crash, i thought it might give it a little protection! But it causes that weird glare, and ruins the shot 😬
It has vents and DJI themselves recommend flying it with the cover. Besides, it doesn'ttake a genius to realize that they wouldn't have made it transparent if it isn't intended to be used during flight or recording.
AlphaOne F.C.G you would be surprised how many covers for optics and stuff in general are transparent, that does not mean anything. it is not the first time when dji's left hand does not know what it's right hand is doing.
Noticed how your ending altitude was negative? The Mavic compensated very well for the altitude change. I'm curious, how were you trying to cancel auto-land? Did the Mavic auto navigated between the trees to find a good jsmding spot or did you take control?
+SPIRALMOZFAN thanks for watching. The negative altitude was, i believe, the elevation of the city where i landed was lower than that of where i took off. To cancel, there is a cancel auto land icon on the screen, but it would not activate. And i manually avoided the trees at the end.
Chris Rollins thx man, keep up the good work. Now I'm worried and have to figure out the auto-land overrride sequence on the remote. I knew how to on my P3S but haven't read how to on the Mavic. I love that little guy!
Yeah the stress levels came through :) - Keep it up man look forward to seeing more. Hoping to get our hands on a Mavic very soon! We are using a phantom 3 pro currently.
You guys kill me. Answer me one question which I find quite worrying. How come Tim was always aware of where the Mavic was at all times when you didn’t. ? Tim was driving the damn car too! Chris you need to get ya eyes checked brother. Lol. Great vid though guys! Keep em coming. Was nice to see something different. Well done. Steve.
it, and you, are funny. lol. the stuff you do. however I have thought of this, I just don't see the reason now. great video. have a p3pro. just got my mavic yesterday. can't wait. keep up the funny, and good videos
You parked like an asshole.
Aside from that, what an awesome vid!
Parking lot: *EMPTY*
@@GhostFromThe10 he means in the road shoulder when they landed the drone
HOLLY CRAP! You seriously push that thing to the limit!!! I was nervous it was going to clip that tree on the emergency descent. haha! Now only if we could ride the mavic, I wouldn't need a car anymore...
HAHAHA dude, we actually said that very same thing!

i drive that road every day. Nice Job!
really?! how about that! we should film together sometime!
Dude, you are nuts. Thanks for doing this stuff so we don't have to!

Great vid! Just a heads up, you might want to set RTH to RTM so your mavic doesn't try to fly back to the starting point.

thanks! yalls content is amazing btw!

Chris thanks again. I have searched for quit some time for the answer and you gave it to me in one paragraph. I appreciate it.

Dude, hands down this was awesome.. I think I will try it now !!
Risky, Crazy and plain Amazing! Hats off tya. What an adventure.
I thought i was the only one that got the 'DRONE SHAKES' good one MR.Rollins
Dude that was awesome to watch, 13 miles with a tail wind , crazy distance, it's a wicked machine.. I'm in the air as soon as weather permits
Incredible. That little drone fought crazy winds like a champ. Awesome capture.
A few comments about leaving the camera protector on and an overheating issue. DJI has confirmed that enough air gets through the protector that it isn't an issue. That was a very daring flight, Great Job! I'm subscribed to see what else you come up with. Good Luck and be safe!
Great job , greatings from Poland.

Damn, that was intense at the end!
Cool dude...you have pushed it to the limit, I dont think I'll be brave enough to do the same as you've done.....two thumbs up....
I bet he didn't really see it all the time and had to pretend to in order to prevent FAA fines. Haha
That was one incredible flight. Years ago we made an experimental electric airplane. It was powered by a primary lithium battery. An air time of three minutes was considered superb. Fantastic how far technology has come.
Great especially with the wind conditions!

One word!!!! AWSOOOOOOOOOOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Loving all the mavic videos - great to see some 'real life' emotion when trying out the capabilities - thank you!
Man, I was starting at the battery life the whole time, panicking like it was my drone! lol Well done man, well done.
Bro your videos are freaking hilarious, thank you for what you do!

the wind was blowing to the south east, at 20 mph, gusting at 40 mph.
Finally got to listen to your video, where you did talk about the wind speed and that it was a tailwind and you were in Sport mode. Awesome that the Mavic handled so well in those conditions. Good test report!
I got sweaty palms just watching this.
Fantastic team effort. Felt like I was with you the whole way. Nerve racking near the end ;>)
+Bikes & Drones haha thanks! Im still shocked it we t that far
7:45 was worth to watch the whole video haha. But yeah, great video and idea Chris
good quality vids, should be more popular. Good luck man
thank you!
The commentary during that landing! LMAO!
Nearly 13 miles of flying!! Most impressive!
thank you!
you guys hit the record!
Great vid, balls of steel!
Amazing flying. I just got mine last week. Have a few flights in but nothing like this, lol. The mavic has proven to be a beast.
thank you! yes its an awesome machine, I just hit 100 flights, and Im still blown away by what it can do!
When doing this, you can change your home point, should have two options, radio location or drone location, just find an open area, set it real quick, and keep flying. That way, should it return to home, it doesn't go ALL the way back to where you started from.
Mavic legends the both of you !!! well done
Nice vid. Enjoyed it. It really covered some distance!!
thanks! I couldn't believe it
great thats all we need more people doing this its not a toy
Cool undertaking. Enjoyed that.
This was so cool! Well done! Still figuring out how you interupted the auto landing, but you did. Super!
My guess is you were flying in Sport Mode to achieve over 40 mph, correct? Have you ever received a "battery over discharge" warning while flying full speed forward in sport mode? I just got this warning the other day.
Glad to know I'm not the only one who gets the shakes before flying.
Mohammed Alkhadher don't worry I get them all the time.
Congrats from BMW home city Munich ! Thia is really a marvellous and thrilling video !!

Your video made me nervous!!! Awesome distance... Congratulations (Sylvain, Montréal, Canada)
Was on the fence about phantom 4 or mavic pro purchase. No debate now! Thanks for an awesome vid, not sure I'd have the balls to pull this off on a + $1000 investment. You guys rock!

you had to choose your home point as your current position. you could lose signal with your drone causing it to get back to where you started.
Hahaha you looked as excited as a lil kid hahaha, good daring flight
You said the bad comments would be coming but to be totally honest I think that the way you did it although risky was better than a lot of other ways I’ve seen it done. Most of the clips for distance tests are done with no planning. Wind isn’t factored in and certainly no VLOS. Wow...I thought that was awesome great job...very cool
I was wondering if you could have preprogrammed that trip with waypoints and just followed it? You should make a video of doing that next. Just kinda follow the drone as it makes its programmed flight. You are giving me sooo many ideas man!!😃
You would need to take it out of gps lock for the tail wind to make a difference
I understand well that the priority of your mission was different, but it was also very easy to consider this point without difficulty, just with the histogram overlayed on the screen you can see exposition errors and compensate.
great idea, fun video, thanks dude
Congrats my friend! you are crazy! I was a bit nervous during this crazy landing on the road!!
thank you sir! where are you from?
Chris Rollins, i am from São Paulo Brazil and i am watching some videos from Mavic in order to decide if I going to buy it! but I have no doubt after your video!
que legal! eu morie em Sao Paulo por oito anos! perto do shopping SP market! VC vai ser muito satisfeito com a Mavic!
We'll see !!! Keep it up bud!
+Paul Sousa can't wait! Please feel free to scroll through the comments, you are very late to this threat. 😘
Found the butt sweat fluffer. Awesome video. DJI, give this man a Platinum Pro.
Really cool guys! Your vid looks really great, What resolution|fps were you shooting in? Just got my Mavic and still trying out different settings!
thank man! for this video i left it in 108p at 24 fps because i knew it would be small on the screen regardless. Usually i leave it in 2.7k at 24 fps though
I was nervous the whole time watching this!! Jesus guys!
That was dope...
Very cool video, I thought you weren't allowed to operate your drone from a moving vehicle though?
Do do you have your part 107? Because if I recall correctly it only ok to fly from a car in sparsely populated areas. But there are some other restrictions as well. But either way, impressive flight.
Gat App Technologies I have my part 107 and the law does state that you cannot operate a UAS From a moving vehicle unless it’s in a sparsely populated area
If I am flying the Mavic 2 Zoom and taking video can I push the snap shot button the controller and take still pictures too?
Chris, do you have a reason for flying in "Sport" mode? I thought that drains the battery faster. Was it because you were in a car that needed to go faster than 30 MPH? If you hit the power button one time I think it silences the lower battery warning. I think you would have gotten 5-6 more minutes in reg "P-mode"
TekSone in p mode (position) the mavic fly's only up to 15mph I believe but in s (sport) it fly's up to 40mph so he will have to have it on to be able to stay with the car and also get there faster
interesting to see the battery home point moving towards the right side.
Did you disable return home? I was expecting that thing to book to where you started when battery was low. Doesn't that thing have manual mode? That should always be available for you to take control.
so when return home engages, you have about 5 seconds to cancel it. it did pop up on my screen, and I cancelled it. i was in gps mode for the flight, and when it started the emergency land, i could move it foreword back and left right, but not up. you should know that it blocks the cooling vents and it can overheat, and that is not better either :)

You are crazy but watching it was kinda cool. Gave me confidence to try it out hehe
lexville12 He should have a "don't try this at home" words along the video. LOL
13 miles is awesome! Did you fly against the win or same direction?
+Leandro Martins i had very strong tail wind that pushed me that far! I think with calm winds I would have made it about half way.
Distance record, nice work.
watching from the Philippines...
great great vlog here... 13 1/2 miles. thats crazy... keep it up
Great vid....7:49 is exactly how I sounded when I lost my virginity
Dick... make me go back to 7:49 now and listen.....
If I get 500' from my MP I get nervous - I just don't have the stones to try that! That is a good cardo workout !
Interesting idea.
What an awesome video but if i were you i would never push the limit that much :D
Brilliant!!!!
I take it you turned the RTH off to avoid the low battery return feature. What other adjustments did you make for this test.
The only thing i did was when RTH alerted me that it was about to engage, I just cancelled it. I flew in GPS mode and sport mode.
Would it have been easier to do waypoints instead of flying manually?
How do you get the screen on the right where it has the flight information and stuff?
I want to learn how to do that.
Really enjoying the videos. would have loved to see you track the car from the drone!!
Live Travel Project that would have looked awesome! But it would also mean Id have to fly sideways, i was already stressed enough 😜
Well done. Steve.
I thought when viewing this I’d be seeing you fly it without driving after it. This is doable. I thought the range was doing the work on its own
it, and you, are funny. lol. the stuff you do. however I have thought of this, I just don't see the reason now. great video. have a p3pro. just got my mavic yesterday. can't wait. keep up the funny, and good videos
