Love the first question! Although I’m not the poster boy for creatives who reject schedules. However, I never had a producer who would sit with me and try to understand both my process AND my ability to actually make a real schedule. We should have worked together Laura. By the way, I also never missed a deadline 😅
Thank you for replying to our comments. From this video what I have gained is that a lean studio is more orderly and puts out games quicker. Nowadays, studios are massive and game development takes ages. Development is more expensive and time consuming, yet the games are incomplete at launch.
You definitely need more subscribers. Thank you for the Q&A, and thank you for answering my questions in a previous video as well! ^^ Wishing you the best, Laura.
Omg thank you so Much! I might have thought of more insightful questions if I knew you would make a great video answering them. Your answers are so insightful. You are probably right Epic would have been stuck making Gears of War probably. And who knows where they would be now. I tried to send Super Thanks 2 days ago before the video was released I had no idea. I hope you enjoy making these vids I know I enjoy them. I wish more ppl would get a chance to see them. Take care and much love.
I have been (to put it accurately) consuming these videos from your first to your last. If one were to measure how relevant content is to oneself by measuring the amount of "Ah" moments said content gives your content would measure the highest out of any content creator so far for me. I'm so grateful that i wont have to reinvent the wheel for myself going forward as i do understand and see the validity in every single thing you have said without exception. I know it might sound like an exaggeration, but the comments flabbergasted at how few subscribers you have and how obscure your channel is, is an acknowledgement that what you say is an incredible important puzzle piece of understanding that is missing. Laura Fryer you are exploring the top of Maslows hierarchy and the admiration you have for people like John Carmack is the admiration i have for you. I will start using your name sporadically in my day to day to reflect this admiration. Do not stop.
Heyyy Miss Fryer Will you be making a video on soulsborne and wukong games ? They have nice replaybility value as more people prefer them despite being extremely difficult Even RUclips created a dedicated community about lore of these games as they keep story on the side
Hopefully this opens the door for more questions and more videos and video ideas. I just think you deserve more exposure and views I really do enjoy your videos. Thank you for everything. Super Thanks still not going through. Sorry.
I was wondering if you have ever planned on writing a book yourself. I really enjoy your videos and I believe that there are many people out there like me who could be interested in hearing either your life story (with or without focus on game development) or perhaps some more business related stories in regards to culture and team building (what works, what doesn't etc.) I just thought I wanted to run this idea by you. (Although I'm sure I haven't been the first!) I devoured the book "Masters of Doom" and am currently reading John Romero's "The Doom Guy" because I loved that first book so much. (Spoiler: David Kushner is a much better writer than John Romero and manages to tell the story a lot more interestingly.) Best from London, Rick
Thanks Rick! I love London! I wrote a draft of a book and then decided nobody reads so I made videos instead. Maybe I'll get back to it at some point. Thank you for watching!
Yes! 1. Make games. You should be coding games as much as possible. 2. Network with people on that team. Even better if you can find a mentor over there. Find out what they need. For example network programmers are often in demand. 3. Stay in good standing with your current team so it's easy to move.
Im going to step in this, but you do not have too. What are your thoughts on the recent public exposure of esg/dei influenece on the current gaming community? Seems like that is the biggest trending topic and not in a good way. Appreciate your videos.
Thanks for tuning in! You've asked a spicy question but here we go.... Making a game people love is hard. Burdening creators with things that don't serve that goal sucks. Game devs should be free to make what they want and gamers should be able to play games they love.
Sound about right, but doesn't seem to be reality. I'm a consumer that first "discovered" that esg/dei existed last year. Seems like more and more of the story is coming out with recent events and the developments. Looks like the customers and the developers are the ones losing here.

I agree! Maybe we still will find the opportunity! :)
Hopefully you will both work with Tim Cain

Another great video as always!
Thank you!

Thank you for your kind words! I'm happy to hear that my stories will help you to skip some of the mistakes I've lived. :)
I also grew up playing robo rally and euro style board games lol. The early 90's RTS scene was a great time to be playing games

Always love your insight regarding to game development and especially teamwork there...
Thank you!
Very curious to hear what you think of Age of Empires 4!

Holy cow, someone else who likes 0 A.D.!
It's an awesome game!

Laura, do you have any advice for a current Microsoft software engineer who is trying to move into the Xbox org?

When’s the next Mordor game coming
I would love another Mordor game!
Microsoft would have ruined Unreal and Epic anyway.
