Same, grew up with the DS version, it's half decent I think. But thought it was kind of odd how they added several Kongs... but not the leader of the bunch himself
DS version is kinda lame anyway. The hamfisted touchscreen stuff was pretty rough. You spend most of the single player playing on rails touchscreen tapping games fr.
While I love this game and agree it's one of the best kart racers ever, that bloody Silver Coin Challenge was the bane of my existence when I first played it in 2011. Took me at least three more years before I finally beat Wizpig in the second race, but Tiptup is the real MVP. Glad to hear you enjoyed it, dude!
This is definitely in the category of "games I watched my older brother and cousin play." My little mind just couldn't comprehend how they were so good at the the game and I was so garbage.
Speaking of, I remember a time where I was at a market event, where my mother sold jewelry, and I had the option to pick up Diddy Kong Racing DS for my DSi, but opted to go with Madagascar Karts instead.
You should play the DS remake. It adds more courses and new characters. If you beat all the courses' time trials you get the clock character Tick Tock which has max stats for racing
@@salewdpez4952 it really is botched. the substitute for the silver coin game was my bane of existence. I did enjoy the new tracks, but it just doesn’t compare to the n64.
I remember playing this game with my brother a lot❤ And I still missed those days And I wish Nintendo can learn something that they learned back in the day and still put love into there games and franchises whatsoever 💔
Wait a second, you’re as old as me, a 1996 baby?! No, that can’t be right?! You’re a notable and funny Internet personality with a fanbase. I’m just a 26-ish schmuck who draws cartoons with a burping hippo OC on an iPad to entertain myself. Incredible! Jovial self-pity comment aside, it always blows my mind for some reason whenever somebody I enjoy is in the same age group as me. I only played the DS version myself and from what I remember, it was fun (compressed and generally inferior character VO aside). I still have yet to play OG DKR myself, but I’m not in the mood to show up money for a used N64 cart off Amazon or eBay, so hopefully it’s comes to the NSO Service at SOME point before the Switch 2 or whatever next-gen console Nintendo’s developing releases. It would be SO petty if they’re not releasing the game solely because of Conker The Squirrel because with most of Rare’s N64 bangers being on the service already (including the first Banjo game) there’s literally NO excuse anymore. Hopefully that happens someday. Lol
Never played this or heard of it, lowkey reminded me of the sonic racing game, how it had Wreck it Ralph and Dana Patrick in it, Mario kart will always be GOATED but there are other racing bangers out there for sure
I agree with you Uncle Al, I wished Nintendo and Rareware would work together once again since Microsoft and Nintendo are getting along; but still wish Nintendo didn't remove Rareware during the early 2000s that later led Microsoft buying Rareware. But anything is possible and could happen (crossing fingers for that and a New Donkey Kong Game as well) Also playing Diddy Kong Racing was one of my top 5 favorite N64 games in the nostalgic past and my top 3 characters to play along with Diddy was Banjo and Conker. And hope everyone have a great day. 👼✌
If you’re looking for another game to talk about, one recommendation I have is Spark the Electric Jester 3. It’s a Sonic-Like, YES… but it has some of the nicest controls and level design of any 3d platformer I’ve ever played and it’s criminally underrated-
off topic ik but if they ever make a dk movie I hope you voice swanky Kong in it every time I think about that character I think about your voice frfr lmao 😂
I was a lucky bastard since I grew up going to a daycare at one of my neighbors and their teenage daughters running thr place had a N64 with some of the best games of the console (Diddy Kong Racing, Mario Kart 64, Mario Party 1-3, Super Smash Bros, GoldenEye 64, Rampage, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, Wave Racer, etc.). They even had a giant Mrs Pac-Man arcade table set in their basement. Coolest shit ever.
I got Diddy Kong Racing with my N64 last year and it is really cool! I'd say it's more oriented towards the singleplayer than multiplayer (the multiplayer menu isn't very appealing for me) so this is my racing game for when I'm a loner and Mario Kart 64 is for when I have a friend over.
Imagine they gave donkey kong his own racing game...Where it's just diddy racing, but with more exclusive kongs and more attractive than mario's repeated kart formula. I'd go out of my way to buy that if I had to.
Genuinely thought we would get DKR2 as no Mario Kart 9 was going to release on the Switch and Diddy Kong is not on MK8 roster... but hey maybe not even like that they will release a sequel 😵
I wanted Mario Kart 64 for chrismas and got this instead. My disappointment was immeasurable at first but I fell in love pretty quickly. I loved the progression style of Mario 64 and prefer my games to have context. Mario Kart is just racing and that's it, maybe multiplayer battles if you have a friend. But Diddy Kong Racing took the principals of Mario 64 progression and added the golden balloons and silver coin challenge, and added a story mode with bosses, turning it into a collect-a-thon racer. This game single handedly destroyed my interest in the Mario Kart series. Why would anyone make something as striped down and barren as Mario Kart again after this? The DS game had bosses and mission mode which was a nice start but.... it was also a non start because they didn't do it again after that...why???
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is supposedly inspired by this. Don't get why Microsoft doesn't team-up with Nintendo to make another Diddy Kong Racing.
Hey Uncle Al it's me the obviously big DKC fan here... I know this is unrelated for this video... but did you get my email about helping you with your indie game? I emailed to the Gmail you left in your commission video. And am curious if you are still down for my offer I emailed you... thanks!
@Uncle Al Plus lmao can't wait. By now I should have given up the ghost for DK but all the movie cameos, park news and prospects of maybe getting a DK movie after Mario's have me still believing. Sites like DK vine have been talking about Nintendos revival plan for DK (including the younger devs at DK that grew up on the og trilogy being the main force behind the next game) since like, 2018, so maybe I'm just getting impatient lol. I've heard specific things that line up with what DK Vine in particular have been saying so I think it's very likely that we at least see the new DK this year, but I've grown mostly apathetic to Nintendos future outside of Mario Movie, Zelda TotK and Pikmin 4 so I'm having a hard time allowing myself to be potentially let down again tbh. Well see tho 🤷♂️
Truly I do think something will come along eventually, but I'm done trying to guess when that will be haha. Eventually our patience will pay off. Seems like there are a lot of signs that Nintendo has something in store for DK.
Hey Uncle Al Plus, you may already be aware of this but the RUclips channel Uncle Al just uploaded a video exactly like this one, I’m worried it might be plagiarized from you.
OK so I lied a little, I DID play the DS version back in 2007 but haven't played since... Til just now. Yeahhhhhhhh prefer the N64 version 100% lol.
