I'm from the Canary Islands. My parents migrated to Australia when I was 2 years old. But I've been back heaps of times, for holidays, to finish high school and to live and work on my own for 4 years back in 90-94. I'm from Tenerife, dad's from Lanzarote/La Palma and mum's family is from Fuerteventura. I've done genetic testing and I'm 25% Guanche, 15% Italian and 30% each Portuguese/Spanish. It's good to see Tenerife after two decades. Looks so different.
Guanches were technically Spanish as well, since Castilians conquered the Islands, but I get what you meant. You're 25% Guanche/Bereber and 30% Peninsular Spanish, 15% Italian and a whooping 60% Iberian. Cool! Do you still live in Australia? Amazing place to live as well.

Canary Islands are certainly one of the best touristic areas of Europe. Don't miss to visit La Gomera for its nature and Lanzarote for the amazing architecture. As a matter of fact, they are all interesting must-go places. And taking a swim in January is such a pleasure.
I visited the Canary Islands in the late 80s early 90s, just loved every place we went. Tenerife was beautiful, but the islands have really experienced tourists expansion. I hope more Americans start traveling to the islands. The food, hotels , shops and citizens are just fabulous. When I went flew from Boston to Toronto then direct flight, few Americans on the trip or at our hotel the first trip.
@@WalkWithMeTim i have been to Lazorate, Grant Canaria and Tenerife. I loved every time there. I hope tourist come back especially to Lazorate after the Volcano.
@Sandy Hossman, funny you mentioned there were little Americans on the island...when I was there in 2019, the majority of the people we met were Germans and many others from the UK. They purchase time shares or own homes there amongst the locals. The island is very diversified and I might have been the only American there at our hotel except for a couple I met that were from Switzerland. Many cultures enjoy the islands. I myself am Spanish and Portuguese and many Americans do visit Tenerife, but many blend in with the locals, like I do. I couldn't tell who the tourist were except when they didn't speak the language. I was there for a family reunion. Very beautiful indeed.
