    Great to see so many fish moving up! Unfortunately as you say they were just not interested in anything, unlucky! Your comment about fish caught & released hanging around the same pool with new entrants was interesting. Thanks for producing & sharing.

      Totally agree it's great to see. Fish definitely hang around once they've been caught and released. Thanks again for watching.

    Another great video mate. Good to see so many fish, frustrating but also exciting and keep us coming back! I’ve never fished waulkmill but it looks like a cracking bit of water! Tight Lines👍🏼

    Jings, I hope the bridge engineer had new batteries in his calculator. If that span falls it will really hold the run back. Seriously excellent video despite no fish. Really felt the press of the river and pleased you remained dry. Keep up the good work.

      Thanks for watching, yes the bridge is pretty impressive, not long now before it's joined. Maybe another month or so. Worth getting out there to get a cast over them but sadly the line didn't tighten 😕

    Great videos, keep them coming. Nice to see the Tay getting a good run of fish, hope it continues. Out of interest what size Tobys do you fish this time of year? Is it still the Salmos?

      Thanks for watching. It's a 28g I use at the time of year as I can throw it right across. Salmon later in the year normally.

    Seems to be big number of fish the last two weeks Ian, especially here in Ireland....good numbers entering the Moy, if you google Ridge Pool web cam , on the high tide you will see numerous fish head and tailing, like you have on your video.

    Good flow of water this year compared to last , bit frustrating you couldn’t hook one or two today, plenty fish running though, next time , tight lines.

      Thanks for watching, I'd agree we need it down a little bit more hopefully, it'll be dry for the next week or so and slow them up a bit.

      Hi, thanks for watching. For us at the bottom end I would say this number of fish is slightly early but agree other rivers seem late. The spring run just didn't really happen on the Tay. There's certainly nothing wrong with the condition of them anyway, as long as they come in i suppose. Tight lines

    I never know if seeing fish and not getting an offer is more frustrating than seeing nothing and catching nothing!! Brave wading in a big river with no life jacket or wading stick all that while doing commentary…not sure if that’s really cool or really dangerous. Good to see some many fish on the run though…

    • @scottishoutdoorlife
      @scottishoutdoorlife  3 дня назад

      Thanks for watching, not sure Paul both equally I think 🤣 I'm comfortable with my limitations in terms of wading. There are certain pools I'll not wade without a stick. Should really use a bouancy, but fond them quite restrictive. Great seeing so many fish. 👍

    Great stuff to see so many fish and was expecting the fly line to tighten up every cast. From my younger days it was believed for every fish you saw there was another seven you didn't see 🤷‍♂️

      Thanks for watching, yeah I thought one in 10, but I think I'm confused with fish caught versus not caught. Certainly a lot going through, still surprised myself the line didn't go tight. That's fishing for you.

    Great to hear that you're seeing good numbers of fish running through the system. Do you think this is down to the work being done across the head of the system and the tributaries? If it is, then hopefully, we have a blue print to show the clever, desk jockey, theoretician scientists how practical conservation really works.

    • @scottishoutdoorlife
      @scottishoutdoorlife  4 дня назад

      Hi Colin, the only work in reasonable numbers is on the Tummel system looking at the boards report. Bits and pieces elsewhere but nothing significant. The fish are a week or two earlier but in very good numbers as far as I've seen. My worry is it won't last. We around start to see grilse from 2020 appearing this year hopefully in good numbers.

    • @colinjohnston5465
      @colinjohnston5465 3 дня назад +1

      @@scottishoutdoorlife might be a good idea if we all get after it. There is so much desk top theory which gets in the way of on the ground proper conservation and "re-naturing" rather than rewilding which is a crows charter.

    • @scottishoutdoorlife
      @scottishoutdoorlife  3 дня назад

      @colinjohnston5465 totally agree. I'm involved in the River Earn quite heavily and it takes up most of my spare time. The Tay Trust needs to up their game, nothings happening in the system. It's embarrassing compared to other rivers.

    • @scottishoutdoorlife
      @scottishoutdoorlife  4 дня назад +1

    Grilse run. Too much fresh water, low temps and high oxygen. Most run at night. We'll see how long it lasts. In the past they would start running about now and keep coming till spawning time. It's lower now but the avg weight was about 6lbs increasing as the season progressed. The R Plym in Devon had a late run avg weight 10lbs. The record weight for a grilse was about 18lbs. Reported catches include "grilse error" the misreporting of grilse as salmon.

    • @scottishoutdoorlife
      @scottishoutdoorlife  4 дня назад

      Hi, yes I'd agree with that although the majority were salmon I would say. Difficult to tell unless you catch them, wouldn't have minded connecting with them all. 18lbs that a huge grilse, it amazes me how quickly they can grow out at sea and the difference in size between an early and late grilse.

      @@scottishoutdoorlife Check the catch data. I was the first person in the UK to beat ScotGov on an FOI request they refused to comply with. I got all of the mandatory salmon fisheries catch return forms released into the public domain going back to 1952. All inclusive, rod and line and net catches. I knew David Summers. I'm not up to speed as I once was but I still like watching you guys flogging a dead horse. lol By the way, since you East Coasters are releasing all of your wild catch what salmon are you eating? Surely, you aren't eating farmed salmon, are you?

      Given the amount of time I was there, I would say for that time of year 20 was a lot and as I said in the video they'd been coming in steady everyday. Everyone else who commented agreed it was encouraging but I respect everyone's opinion.
