    You know these American gentlemen actually did have a magical time, for there’s not a single cloud in the sky, they not only caught wild Atlantic salmon on the fly, they managed to catch the 1 day Irish summer 😂🇮🇪 tightlines

    What month would you see the Salmon jumping the falls?

    • @gardinermitchellirishangli2772
      @gardinermitchellirishangli2772  6 лет назад

      Any time between May and September. It also depends on water levels but June, July and August are best especially when the water is clearing after a flood. There will still a few coloured salmon on the falls in the autumn.

    why dont they just spawn down at the mouth of the river?

    • @gardinermitchell1604
      @gardinermitchell1604 6 лет назад +1

      Salmon need gravel of a certain size with a good flow of cold, clean, oxygenated water in order for their eggs to develop. It is also essential for the newly hatched salmon (called alevin) to hide from predators in the spaces created by the gravel. Salmon can spawn on the first gravel they meet but normally the lower regions of rivers have depositions of silt on the river bed rather than gravel. The upper reaches are more hilly with greater gradient and more numerous areas of gravel.
