My mum always says that my plants apparently feel how much I love them because they are so healthy and grow so well and I would definitely say that‘s true so that would be my tip for plant care 😊🌱🌿
When I moved across country 10 years ago, I had to give away a lot of plants...especially my big ones. That hurt my heart! We've just bought a house, no longer renters, and I'm in my first spring here! I am going plant nuts!!! I currently have about 16 indoor plants and that will increase as I continue to repot, propagate and separate the ones that I have. I love your video because it gave me a look at all your beautiful plants and gave some great tips yo remember! I am definitely going to pin my pothos into the soil! Thank you!
I got my bf into plants and it‘s a huge regret because we planned that I‘ll move into his place - i already mapped out mentally where I‘d wanna put my plants - and now all good spots are taken 🙃
Consider it a blessing! Mine doesn't seem to be into them as much as me and at the same time it seems I'll have to sneak them in without him catching me pretty soon 😓
I have 7 plants now, you have inspired me to start collecting plants as a hobby. I find your videos so peaceful and helpful. I love your style and your attitude. Lots of love from England xx
I've got 165 plants in my place at the moment. I've got 5 south facing windows in my studio apartment. People say they feel a sense of peace while visiting. I have begun propogating and gifting to people who visit. I have watched as my children, nieces and nephews have become plant loving people. It's awesome to see another generation caring for nature.
Thank you for your video. I have 12 pants in dirt and 4 cuttings propagating. I just started my collection in September 2022. I’ve always admired others houseplants and now I’m enjoying my own. 😊
Years ago I subscribed to Rachel for her workouts and minimalist videos. Now I’m here again because I’m a beginner plant mom 🌱🌿 Thank you Rachel for keeping up with my interests and hobbies
I love all of your videos but as a plant addict these are my absolute favorite!!! I had over 30 plants but recently a lot of my friends wanted to get their first plants but couldn't due to being quarantined. So I gifted away a few of mine to them as a surprise on their door steps to cheer them up. I love how plants can bring people together and spread happiness.
I've seen thousands of videos about plants, none has been as informative as this one! Thanks sooo much! I have one plant (monstera) but definitely getting more.
I'm 17 years old and moving soon with my family. Using it as motivation to change my lifestyle and wellness habits, your videos have helped me in so many ways, and I couldn't thank you enough. Plants have been on my bucket list for a long time, so this will be a great opportunity to begin that process. I also want to point out that I love the way your house is decorated; the minimalism with boho touches here and there really give the place a comfortable and inviting atmosphere.
Hi Rachel, firstly great to have an Aussie Gardener extraordinaire on RUclips, you're hard to find and also, talking about the directions of plants in the Southern hemisphere which we are because, very rarely and some American gardeners/Horticulturist are excellent but only talk about the Northern hemisphere so, a huge thank you for that Rachel. And your warm gentleness makes watching your videos that much more enjoyable for sure. Thank you so much and please keep going well with teaching us Aussies more about plant tips and although you may not be an "expert", by golly you've done a brilliant job in all of your videos and know what you're talking about, which in turn teaches and helps us much more! Thanks again Rachel, I'm forwarding your videos to inform people about you, so hopefully you will get bigger and better as you well deserve! Look forward to more planting from you Rachel and you go girl, Lizzie
I have 50 plants! My boyfriend and I made a deal that now every time I buy a plant he gets to buy a “fancy” beer 😬 Also just to add to the cinnamon for the Gnats, you shouldn’t do this if you have live worms in your pots as if it gets into the soil it will usually kill them ☹️
No! They like to b in soil. The worms keep the soil aerated, their poop is great for fertilizing, they have babies! Win:win! Add some leaves, mulch, compost to feed them and soon u will have black gold soil and u can’t beat that! Rabbit poop is awesome if u have any. My boy thinks he’s a dog, but he’s in love with a cat that just moved in bf Halloween (spooky).
Went downstairs to count them. I have 20 plans, most of them in hanging containers on a little ladder. There used to be quite a bit more, because my pilea (pancake) plant and aloe vera kept getting new small plans in their soil. But a lot of friends have been moving from their parent's house or student housing into their own appartment and wanted to plants in their new homes, so I gladly donated them. Still have the mom for both of them :p
Agreed so helpful. I have 4 plants now and am getting more in the future. I absolutely love everyone of them. My familly members are definitely plant lovers, including me
My friend and I had this exact same conversation last week! 😊We're both minimalists and overtime we both started bringing more and more plants into our lives! They bring so much life and calmness into your living spaces. We both realised that we are still minimalists even with a ton of plants! 💛 Thank you for all your amazing tips. I still feel like a fairly new plant mama, so I always love to learn more! ☀️
I just reached 11 plants! Most of which is bamboo because it is straightforward to grow, and I have a powerful black thumb and need l the help I can get. I love to have them around when I succeed, though! 🌱🌿
I just counted them and right now I got 61 plants excluding the ones I'm propagating and all the avocado plants I'm babysitting for a friend ☺️🌵🌱🌿💚 The node hack is genius, thank you. I'll try that asap with my monstera adansonii
This is so funny: I have started my plant obsession in the same way: I am a minimalist (very proud of how little I own) and the only thing I use to decorate my house are plants. On weekends I can stare at them for hours, they give me joy and they make me calm. When I take care of them my mind is really empty, I love it. You plants status is my goal. I have learnt a lot from your video, many thanks!
Currently have 9 plants and definitely plan on expanding. New-ish plant mom but long time nanny/babysitter who loves having someone/something to care for.
I have almost 60 plants at this point, everyone thinks I have a ton but it's NOT enough 😂😂 my living room is packed,my kitchen is getting there. But until every room feels like a jungle I'm not happy lol.
If I'm being honest I only just started gathering plants this year, my room looks like and jungle with about 60 plants, they have helped me find myself and feel happy. love the video and thanks for all the amazing tips.
Wow! Great tips! I didn’t know about the nodes or the cinnamon trick. We will try it out! My husband is the real plant geek in our relationship but I love plants too. I asked him how many plants we got so he counted and he says 47.
Love the cinammon tip and the leaf shine. Also love the fact that you aren't over doing the care. Plants are like children, you just gotta let them be free to live in their purpose. I have 104 plants so far...I have 2 houses to fill so very exciting. Love the trailing monsterra so much...I'm currently on the hunt
I am not a plant person even though my parents and my sisters are... But I love watching your videos for the sheer reason that they are calming and soothing... I love your style and aesthetics. Stay safe 💜
This help me a lot because I have 49 plants and getting more and I plans to make a fruit garden in my room so far I have. A lemon and 2 strawberry’s and they have fruit!!!
I live in the U.K. and it's been a while since I could go to my favourite plant shop! My collection isn't very big but I am getting into propagating in a big way! The most exciting thing is a little Hoya that was a Valentine's Day present years ago has produced a shoot and some tiny love heart leaves! This is my life now 😂 I am now going to hair pin my devils ivy. Great tip 👍
Thank you these tips were so helpful!! One note I have to add, I have a very cheeky cat who goes into my plants a lot, for my cat mums you can use gravel to kill off gnats as cinnamon can really hurt kitties if it gets in their eyes! I’ve tried this tip myself and it’s worked really well! (Also my cat hunted and killed most of the gnats 😂) x
A new plant Mum here. Well not entirely new. I expanded my collection (during lockdown lol) and have had a few teething problems with the newbies. The monstera specifically. I have been an over-waterer!! Yet, I found the lighting segment SO helpful and seeing the layout of your home/windows, has definitely given me food for thought. Thank you, Rachel. Have a great week. I'm hella glad I found your channel. Xx
I’ve never been into plants till I became a minimalist. I love how they make my home feel and look. Great vid, thanks for the tips. I just have one question, what if you go on holiday?!
Hi, I've just been bitten by the plant collecting entity. I'm only 57 seconds into your video and I immediately resonated with your comment about the act of caring for plants is a practice in mindfulness. Peace!
I had just over a hundred plants last I counted. This was so calming to watch! I'm so envious of the giant windows you have in your house, I dream of having that kind of light for my plants.
thank you for this. I just bought my first 2 ft fiddle leaf fig bush and am in love. My only concern is sun light since, in an apartment. The cinnamon tricks sounds awesome, will do. Please do more like this.
Only 67 in my tiny space, but I’m sure it’ll continue to grow as they bring me so much pleasure. I also enjoy propagating, and hadn’t thought to line the nodes against the soil with a hair pin, great idea. Thank you. I have a list of more plants I want, so I’m actually looking for a hand crafted shelf to house my plant babies to ensure more space. 🌿
I have 26 plants 🌱 in my tiny apartment. Mostly pathos because they are easy and don’t require much light ☀️ which is good since my apartment doesn’t get much light 🌞 . Even buy grow light bulbs 💡 for my lamps to assist them to grow. 😊 loved your video
I’m loving the colour of your hair rach. How long till you reach the desired tone. You also look very healthy and much better to when you were in brissy. You look very happy 😊 your move to vic was the best decision. And thank you for your guidance with plants. My plants thank you haha
Thank you, it's so informative for me as a beginner in house planting.. And I wanna ask how come your indoor plants look so green? Even the one which grow in water?
Last year I started really going in on the leaf dusting after some stagnant growth on my gum trees - it made ALL the difference! My leaves were clearly clogged with dust and couldn't photosynthesise properly. I dilute Pine-Sol with water and use that for wiping, it keeps bugs at bay too.
I've recently moved into my first solo rental and am beginning my plant mom journey. I currently have 2 wee plants and this video has been such a huge help! I've found it all a little intimidating but you have such an eloquent way of speaking and explaining things.... it all feels achievable! Thanks so much for the vid - have subscribed! :-)
Omg! I love your home! The plants are just life. I am starting over from 10 to now only 2. What advice would u have for plants to receive light when its cold outside cuz i put plastic up in winter to keep out cold air?
Love this vid! I'm also a fan of not liking the 'leggy' look and will always trim mine down/pin them to avoid this. Another great tip is misting the plants with warm water to help create humidity🥰
Your tips are so helpful! I recently made a video about plant care mistakes, but your plants are such wonderful examples of doing plant care the RIGHT way! I love your filming space in the beginning too! 11/10 plant goals 🙌
Such a helpful video, Rachel 🥰 I feel like another additional tip to add, re: cuttings. If you live in a cooler climate, I’d highly suggest buying a heat mat. In my experience they help my cuttings grow roots so much and the cuttings love being somewhere warm too while they grow ☺️ (My heat mat is on pretty much year round here in Victoria and any plant/cutting that I put on it well and truly thrives!) Also - would we potentially be able to see a more in-depth plant tour for the new house? I remember a while back I saw a variegated monstera borg in your plant care video from either last year or the previous, would love to see how it’s doing now 🙏
Last I counted I had about 114 plants 😅 but also, loving (almost) every minute of it. Also constantly propagating to give baby plants to friends and spread my plant illness 😘
Luuve S. it’s so much fun naming your plants. I talk to them and my kids think I’ve lost it🤷♀️ I have my sancy or snakey or pepper or zztop or crotonia or ardi etc. you get the message. I don’t name my outdoor plants though, they aren’t my roommates 🤨😉
I have 5 plants. Mainly because I am limited in widow space for them. I would like to see a bunny care video. I also have house rabbits and am curious if you let them roam freely, use a litter box (I do) and how you protect cords and plants from them. Plus if you have any non bunny friendly plants such as a diffenbachia. Loved the tips in this video!
I'm an avid gardener but I had never seen the difference between the porthos and the swiss cheese plant where you compared the low light & hanging vs. the supported & high light...that was awesome content, thank you!
I just found your station and absolutely love it. Will be watching more. I use to kill any house plant given to me but now I have about 40 indoor and still have my outdoor plants I work on. Plus an addiction to propagate more
Hello Rachel my name is Jamie. I have enjoyed your instructions,on giving plant tips. You have explained how to take care of plants, and how to kill gnats. I have drowned so many plants. All sort of insects has invaded my plants. Thanks for helping many people watching your videos, you take your time explaining, and that, has given me joy. Now, I'm starting over again, with my plants. Thanks
Hi Rachel, thank you for sending me comments. Now I need you to help me to grow my mangos, and avocado plants. Sometimes I feel they are not growing fast enough. I would welcome your expertises. Please help me out.
Thank you for this, it gave me some inspiration for my plant care. Last year I moved and could only take my couple of favourites and some cuttings in my hold luggage, so I want to make sure they thrive and grow into new big favourites. I love your video style, so relaxing but informative.
I'm just starting the addiction at 3 plants. I started with 2 a rubber tree and English ivy but thanks to a trip that got unexpectedly extended due to Corona chaos my ivy was neglected and I couldn't revive it. So I bought 2 more plants to try and fill the hole in my heart. It didn't work so I will be going back until I find an english ivy just as beautiful as my last. But the fittonia and heart shaped ivy were a nice addition to my little space! No worries I have a wish list of my next few I am going to buy along with plans of an outdoor garden area.
Super information, Rachel. Thank you! I have raised a lot of plants, but, never knew about the nodes could be placed on the soil for regrowth and the cinnamon either. Every little bit helps.
I have around 50 indoor plants and about the same outdoor in pots! I just love them. I do have to bring many of the outdoor indoors during the winter! It definitely looks like a jungle in the winter 😁.
While watching I realized my potus could use the bobby pin hack and i immediately went and did it, but while doing so I realized that the soil wasn't draining properly so I went outside to change the pot mix and thank you, my potus wasn't growing and you gave me the motivation to give it some love
Where about s AUS are you? I’m in Southern NSW have to wait till after Melbourne Cup to not to get my plants outside with almost zero frost for fresh air. Still have to the daily weather check for no snow. So happy YT algorithm bought me to your site. Love the indoor greenery you have.
I life in a really tiny space with just one window. And suprise it's pointing to the west. So the light is really harsh and burns around 8 hours in my room. Its really hard but I made it work. This video also helped a lot!!
Loved all the tips! I think before I moved out of my apartment, I had around 30, but my parents have probably 200!! All of us LOVE buying/take care of all of them!
Hello From the northern hemisphere! Thank you for the bobby pin tip. I have a bunch of bobby pins too weak form my hair but I won't get rid of them ( its hard doing minimalism) I have 22 plants at the moment.
Loved these helpful tips! Thank you! Mentioning the different directions based on the southern and northern hemispheres is so very appreciated as well. Planting indoor plants began as a Covid project for me, and because I found that my Pothos were thriving I deemed myself an expert- haha- nope- I have been wanting to try to propagate new plants from my pothos and now I’m going to try it. A couple of questions/ideas: for the leaves I bought ‘neem oil’ which also helps to keep the bugs away- do you have any ideas or suggestions on how to use that? Also, when I want to propagate new pothos- how long does it take and how will I know when it’s read to go into the soil? Thank you again- loved the layout of this video- easy to follow along and greatly appreciated. ☺️
Wow this was so comprehensive! I just started introducing plants into our home and I love it so much. We are vegans so we're doing true veganic growing but this helped so much!
Hi Rachel 🙋🏾♀️Such useful tips! I never knew about Ground Saigon Cinnamon to help get rid of Fungus gnats 🚫 Also love the bobby pin tip to make my plants fuller👍🏾 I have around 60 houseplants 🥰 Happy Holidays 🎄🌿🌱
Greetings, thank you for these tips! I also read the blog on your website and wanted to ask about ratios for indoor potting mix. You said “I keep a few different kinds of soil around. The ones I use the most frequently are: organic potting mix, perlite, aroid pre-made mix, orchid bark, moss.” What ratios do you use? I’ve tried using compost, perlite, orchid bark and peat moss but I think the soil is too wet and there’s bugs. I did add cinnamon to the top. Thank you 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I have always loved plants but I was scared they would die because I got one as a gift last year and It died 😭 but I just bought 4 plants this pases weekend because I’m committed into having my house full of plants and life! Plants are life! They’re gorgeous and just perfect❤️ thank you for showing us how to take care of them
I used to kill all my plants. For my first 10 years living on my own I killed every plant that came into my home. Now I have 30+ plants and the collection is growing :) Loved this video Rachel :)
As a plant addict with 100+ plants in the house, this has really helped.
Damn, that's a lot! I have 19 babies.
Thanks huge!!! Wow 😮 #plantmumgoals
Wow! 💚
@@StefanieRoyMusic I have 19 children too!! hopefully I can adopt more soon
i have 4 and 1 died because my annoying ass cousin tore half of the stem off for fun 😀
I love everything about this video: your tattoos, your accent, your hair colour, your plants... Basically I wanna live there...
Agreed!
My mum always says that my plants apparently feel how much I love them because they are so healthy and grow so well and I would definitely say that‘s true so that would be my tip for plant care 😊🌱🌿
Nice. . .
Yeah so does my mom she says I take really good care of them and I told her it's because I really like having them and caring for them 😊🙏❤
My mom says the same! Anyone that comes in my house is blown away by how amazing my plants look! Such a great feeling
How I wish my parents were the same... although I'm still 15 maybe I'll just take care plants when I'm more older
Potty Mouthed Planter couldn’t agree more!
When I moved across country 10 years ago, I had to give away a lot of plants...especially my big ones. That hurt my heart! Grow lights? I have a bunch in my apartment, they can be a bit harsh on the eyes though.
Ah shoot, i also GoT my bf into plants! It’s getting a Bit competing 🙈😅
Consider it a blessing! Mine doesn't seem to be into them as much as me and at the same time it seems I'll have to sneak them in without him catching me pretty soon 😓
Betssie Borja omg I sneak plants in more often than I’d like to admit LOL! I assumed I was the only one🤣
😂
Plants are a great way to escape the pull of a screen
*it’s exactly what grew my plant addiction*
I have 7 plants now, you have inspired me to start collecting plants as a hobby. I find your videos so peaceful and helpful. I love your style and your attitude. Lots of love from England xx
i love the nurturing aspect of plants! it makes me feel like a plant mama 🌿 thanks for this!! xo

I love worms, they r so beneficial to the roots and have babies👍🏻
I love all of your videos but as a plant addict these are my absolute favorite!!! The plants in your backround 😍😍 The proof that we have to take your tips quite seriously haha
Hello 👋 Em’s
I've seen thousands of videos about plants, none has been as informative as this one! Thanks sooo much! I have one plant (monstera) but definitely getting more.

I have like 13 plants that are thrivinggggg! So happy and can't wait to continue to add more.
So great that they are thriving!!
I have 23 plants. I loved the video! I have a couple of plants that I'm going to try pinning the nodes to make them look fuller.
I have 50 plants! My boyfriend and I made a deal that now every time I buy a plant he gets to buy a “fancy” beer 😬
Also just to add to the cinnamon for the Gnats, you shouldn’t do this if you have live worms in your pots as if it gets into the soil it will usually kill them ☹️
ty for the tip in the cinnamon w worms i didn’t even think about that until i read these comment.
Why do u need the worms ? They go all over the house 😒

The node hack is genius, thank you. I'll try that asap with my monstera adansonii
You look so naturally beautiful here, I don’t know what it is!
I completely agree! 😍

This video is so helpful. I have just started collecting so only can afford plants that are small. But there’s some helpful tips for bulking them up !
Have you listened to Planterina on RUclips yet? Shes amazing as well
Diane Allen sure have !

Emma Clement She has dogs and bunnies in her family and even mentioned that in a comment as one of the reasons why she would need a sitter 💙
Hi, I've just been bitten by the plant collecting entity. I'm only 57 seconds into your video and I immediately resonated with your comment about the act of caring for plants is a practice in mindfulness. Peace!
this was AMAZING. As someone who purchased wayyyy too many plants over quarantine this is so helpful!!! New subscriber:) 💛
There’s no such thing as too many plants!
Plant mom💚💚💚 thank you for your light work by taking care of the babies , truly blessing your life . 🌙🌵🌿❤
I had just over a hundred plants last I counted. This was so calming to watch! I'm so envious of the giant windows you have in your house, I dream of having that kind of light for my plants.

I LITERALLY bought my first collection of indoor plants today! This is perfect thank you ❤️
Good luck with your plant mum journey x

In my experience they help my cuttings grow roots so much and the cuttings love being somewhere warm too while they grow ☺️ (My heat mat is on pretty much year round here in Victoria and any plant/cutting that I put on it well and truly thrives!)
Also - would we potentially be able to see a more in-depth plant tour for the new house? I remember a while back I saw a variegated monstera borg in your plant care video from either last year or the previous, would love to see how it’s doing now 🙏
Last I counted I had about 114 plants 😅 but also, loving (almost) every minute of it. Also constantly propagating to give baby plants to friends and spread my plant illness 😘
I love taking care of my 30 plant babies! The more plant videos I watch the more I think I should name a few or them. Great video as always 🌱🌱
Luuve S. it’s so much fun naming your plants. I talk to them and my kids think I’ve lost it🤷♀️ I have my sancy or snakey or pepper or zztop or crotonia or ardi etc. you get the message. I don’t name my outdoor plants though, they aren’t my roommates 🤨😉
Hello Luuve
How are you doing
Girrllll...I’m right there with you, I just have a small obsession with houseplants 😅 great tips and beautiful plants 💚
Thank you so much, I'm glad you could appreciate!
I just found your station and absolutely love it. Will be watching more. I use to kill any house plant given to me but now I have about 40 indoor and still have my outdoor plants I work on. Plus an addiction to propagate more
Really love your hair, you suit this hair colour so much x
Omg I love how you’re literally turning into a plant, Rachel! Thanks for sharing this, I’ve got a baby money plant in my room and I love her :)
Hehe, thank you!
I absolutely love my indoor plants, my collection is somewhere around or slightly above 50 now 🥰😊
Thanks for the practical advice. I've never been great with plants but that seems to be changing and your handy tips are greatly appreciated.
Im also a houseplant lover makes me feel relax and its like a happy pill to my everyday life.
I have around 50 indoor plants and about the same outdoor in pots! I just love them. I do have to bring many of the outdoor indoors during the winter! It definitely looks like a jungle in the winter 😁.
You and your plants are awesome thanks for the bug tips 😀 and that tip on pinning your plants down is exactly what I needed fantastic idea 💡
How are you doing
Is that a variegated monstera I spy behind you in the intro?! Stunning 🥰
This video also helped a lot!!
i dont even know how i discufered this chanel but i did and sooo far this chanel has been ALSOME keep the work up Rachel
This video just made my day!
Please make such plant videos more often because they help a lot.
I'm so glad you find these helpful. I really enjoy making this content 🌱
This is the MOST thorough and helpful video I’ve watched about plants so far! Thank you!
Your plant care videos are my fave - there will never be enough of them :) thank you!
Thank you so much, I'm so glad you appreciate them!
Everybody should learn these techniques. This is so amazing to do.
I love your videos & how aesthetically pleasing they are. Plants are the best way to decorate. 💜
Wow that bobby pin idea is so cool.
I absolutely LOVE your plant videos. They're so informative. Thank you Rachel xx
Hey 👋
Thank you-Love the cinnamon tip. Very good for upper gut infections in humans as well.
I am thankful for your great demo w the N’ Joy pothos cutting.
Wow this was so comprehensive! I just started introducing plants into our home and I love it so much. We are vegans so we're doing true veganic growing but this helped so much!
Wow, great idea about the Bobby pin trick, thank you!
this is my first video of yours...the amount of knowledge I have learned from just this one video is amazing! definitely subscribing!
Hi Rachel 🙋🏾♀️Such useful tips! I never knew about Ground Saigon Cinnamon to help get rid of Fungus gnats 🚫 Also love the bobby pin tip to make my plants fuller👍🏾 I have around 60 houseplants 🥰
Happy Holidays 🎄🌿🌱
If you're in the USA, you can get Saigon cinnamon at Costco.
Thank you 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
i love this video! where do you usually get your pots and planters from?
I have always loved plants but I was scared they would die because I got one as a gift last year and It died 😭 but I just bought 4 plants this pases weekend because I’m committed into having my house full of plants and life! Plants are life! They’re gorgeous and just perfect❤️ thank you for showing us how to take care of them
I used to kill all my plants. For my first 10 years living on my own I killed every plant that came into my home. Now I have 30+ plants and the collection is growing :) Loved this video Rachel :)
