- Like the Volvo 960? Here's a decked out version celebrating the final years of the RWD production from Volvo.
Vehicle is either a standard 5-seater with long wheelbase, or a 4 seater provided by two independent power adjustable rear seats. Optional rear console air conditioning and drink coolers; excellent interior lighting, and it's powered by the smooth Volvo-Porsche inline-6 :) Guarentee to inspire all Volvo owners alike!
Correction: only 30 of these cars have the longer wheelbase.

Many of the luxury features in this car are now obtainable in modern cars, (or better), like powered sun shades and automatic windows..

Mine is a '97 960 executive... 160k miles and still going strong,it's pretty bulletproof for the last 70k miles of ownership. It's the real Volvo quality.

I love the S90 Royal. I have the S90 Limited Edition from new. My car just hit 100,000 miles and still looks like brand new. It has out lived two new cars and is w me for life. I just love the body shape that I can spot a 9 series a mile away. I just wished they would have made it a foot longer in the inside for better room for the back seater would have made the car almost perfect in my eyes. Abram, Austin TX.

I have a 1998 S90 U.S. spec. car. Just turned 100K and running strong, and although 12 years of age now is still a head turner and have lost count of how many times people have ask me is it a new model that replaced the S80. I have had many Volvos from a 240DL to a 850 Estate which I still have. Never a let down and remain enjoyable to this day. Have looked at the newer ones, such as the 2011 S60, which I really like, but somehow the magic of the S90 is still there for me. Looking for a Royal.
Love my 1993 960. The thing is in great shape and enjoy to drive it anytime I can! Volvo for Life!!
Now, as a long time Volvo fan I just want to state that this was the last Volvo made under full ownership of Volvo but that doesn't mean that it was the last real Volvo. In fact, today's Volvos are even more competitive than the ones that were made under full Volvo ownership and that shows through Volvo's increasing safety, and reliability scores. In fact, Volvo has just surpassed Mercedes in terms of overall reliability.

It depends on what your looking at when you compare the two, if you want a quiet ride, Lexus LS is the way to go, but personally i like the S90 Royal more, it drives smoother and has a nicer feel overall.
Hehe. I raced my 960 up mountains (although the gearbox is notoriously terrible for it!) and, compared immediately to a VW Polo, one was able to tell the difference being pulled upwards (FWD) versus being pushed from behind (RWD). Great car!

@petershen1984 Well, scandinavian design never looses its flair.. so youre right in that respect. But to smell and feel the essence of a volvo, you should first own some of the old bank-vaults like the 240GL, 740GLE, 960GL, S90, or even S70... and then you're allowed to buy the new ones.. don't worry, scandinavians retain their tradition very well... cheers :)

Something I dislike about the automatic transmission is the fact that it doesn´t have 2nd gear, as other Volvo models, which is quite important when you drive uphill and downhill (montanious roads). Bisides that, the S90 its a beatiful car. Becareful with the cooling system, which is prone to fail.

@Ankkatulppu It lowers the antenna (overrides the automatic control by the head unit) so you can use your radio through the car wash. Mines was lowered most of the time because I mostly played MP3s and USB drives...

LOL they show the car pulling a 180 after seeing highway robbers. Those are some awesome rear seats with the center console! But I think I prefer my 850 and 780
i enjoyed that video thank you for posting it, i have up of my volvo 760 Executive, 6 doord personel carrier, it used to be the same colour as the s90 featured here, howeaver it has resprayed black for use in the funeral industry. and i can do that turn, the 760 will but you'd need awider road :)

I owned a volvo 740 gle 16 valve 1989, and a volvo S70 GLT SE 2000 presently. Both great cars. However the interior in the car in this video would appear to be as nice as some cars over 100k. Just take a look at rear seats with lighting, as well as the front dash. WHY DOES VOLVO DISCONTINUE A GOOD THING?
@hadabenz agree......... but somehow I'm loving the new XC60 interiors....and even with the S40 and C30, you get a better car than what could be made 10 years ago..

Update on my 97 960. Haven't fixed the heater core yet, got some smoke coming from the interior vents from time to time. It's pretty funny.

The 960 is no more, but both generations of the S80 has executive 4-seater versions. I'm running free commercial for Volvo... haha......

@jkldeer Sadly, the S90 stopped its production in 1999. Currently, the S80 is selling as a successor.

haha, sorry, I meant the 240 basically stayed the same for the 19 years, with changes to the headlights and choice of engines that's about it...
With any new car comes the risk of acceptance... like the controversial 7-series BMW design. And yet, yesterday I saw the nextgen 7-series is hard to get used to. I mean, the oversized radiator grille that extends into the bumper.....

@petershen1984 Technically, Toyota didn't cut costs IIRC. They're on the same reliability scale as did Volvo when they knew how to make a proper car.
Mine's a regular peon model 96 960. A lovely car, with a few quirks. The seat cable was broken, now fixed. The electrical is kind of wacky. It's terribly gutless for such big displacement, and gets horridly low mileage (it's own version of 'no gain, all pain'). Still, I love the car, though. Turns great. Stops well. Seats are comfort defined.

what can you say about the 240 and it's 19 year production run...
the styling is nice in its own way but it looks too similiar to the older 740/760. I like the look of current volvos, though once again the new S80 is barely distinguishable to the old one, what's the point of releasing a new model if you're not going to show everyone how new it is?
There is one of those here where I live.
And an American engine in a Swedish car pretty much gets the best driving experience and best bang for the buck unless you want a convertible sports car then you can get an LS3 Miata or S2000.

It doesn't matter if you're driving RWD/AWD/FWD, summer tires in winter are horrible. FWD just happens to get somewhat predictable understeer in winter.

You'd be sadly misinformed. Volvo has confirmed the V60 wagon to be coming to the U.S. in the winter of 2013. And who cares if it isn't RWD? The fact of the matter is that even a base 3.2 FWD S80 could beat this car in a drag race and in terms of handling. And let's not forget the T6 AWD version.

you have to have a target market for each product though, you can't just design something that is just going to be for everyone. the design part is easier if you have the target market because you can focus on the details.
i guess this car is designed for the wealthy people in general who like the luxurious feel, not just 'celebrities' lol
