LaunchKey Mini doesn’t seem to have a way to switch the pads to Midi Channel 11, I think. Check with your equipment before you buy it. Other than that, brilliant idea!
Hi there, I realise this is an old video, but I was wondering if anyone can help me... the firmware update went fine but my Beatstep (not Pro) doesn't seem to be communicating with the Volca Sample now - it worked fine this morning. I've tried all MIDI channels and run the upgrade twice, same thing 😞 The Beatstep talks with my Volca Bass just fine, too. Thanks for the video, though - very helpful, and it *really* wants me to get this working!
Has anyone tried sequencing the vS with say a first version EM-1 or ER-1? I'm wondering if you had a pattern programmed in either of those units, switched the MIDI Out channel to 11 and pressed play if the 'Parts' would map between units (i.e. Part 1 on the ER-1 would trigger Part 1 on the vSample)??
Functionality wise, I'm trying to decide between buying a Sample 1 and install the Pajen firmware vs buying a Sample 2 and get the Retrokit RK-002 smart MIDI cable. Is there an advantage of either setup? Am I mixing oranges with apples?
My view, (this is from someone who has used samplers with FLOPPY DRIVES in) is that the MK1 sample is a great hands on instrument, but with a limited sequencer. The MIDI implementation out the box lends itself to an external sequencer that's got the MIDI parameters mapped well - this will expand the instrument vastly. Imagine, using the Storage for 50 samples (longer loops and such) then running 32, 64 or even 128 bar sequences... Have a bunch of blank patterns on the Volca stored, but with different sample set ups and such, that would really, REALLY be expanding it's use and purpose. You could still do the muting/filtering/effects live (reverb fade ins are just awesome) and not need spare fingers for pattern adjustments....

Thanks for this really helpful video. I still can't quite seem to get my Novation Circuit & Volca Sample working in harmony though. On my Novation Circuit I have it set up to send MIDI notes / CC, clock & programme changes. Synth 1 is set to channel 11, synth 2 to channel 2 and the drums to channel 15. On the Volca, I have both parts 9 & 10 selected. With the above set up I can play patches 1-10 on synth 1 and patch 2 chromatically on synth 2 without issue if omni is set to off. However when I change the omni setting to Select or Sample, my pre-set drum pattern on my Novation triggers patches 6-10 on the Volca making it sound awful. If you have any experience with this problem I would be really grateful for your advice.
Hey David, I do have a circuit so maybe I'll give it a shot and make a video. Just working on a Volca FM review, but once I get that done I'll bust out the circuit and sample.
Hey David, I gave it a shot here - ruclips.net/video/6RBVyl_Nlvk/видео.html I think if you are using parts 1-10 with Synth 1 (MIDI 11), if you use OMNI mode over any of those parts (Drum tracks - MIDI 15) its going to mess up the samples under those parts, thus screwing up your sequence. So I'd recommend saving parts 7,8,9,10 for OMNI mode, and only use parts 1-6 with Synth 1/2 to avoid getting a scrambled up mess. Hope that helps! NC
This firmware upgrade is great and really opens up the volca sample, your videos are a massive help so thanks. Is it possible to use my DAW to record the chromatic keys and play back? Im struggling to get my DAW to talk with the Volca Sample utilising midi 1-10. Is this firmware for purely live implementation?
Hey Tom, thanks! To your question, I haven't tried this myself, but I don't see why it shouldn't work, you figure a MIDI controller would send out the same note data as a DAW (I'm totally guessing) Like if you DAW is pushing out notes via MIDI on CH 1,it should play sample part 1 just the way my keystep does in the vid? I'm assuming your global setting 9 is enabled via the Volca Sample, if in doubt you can set your DAW to push out MIDI to channel 16, set OMNI to SEL and see if that works on the selected sample part. The only other silly thing I can think of is if you have a MIDI Controller that plays nice with your DAW, you could feed it MIDI from your DAW and daisy chain it to the sample so the midi controller sends it notes... Hopefully others with more DAW experience can chime in with suggestions

@@NickCapron Hey Nick, Thanks for the new video, one of those likes is from me :-) That's neat tip to prevent start/stop of volca from external source, and is very useful for jamming. Choose a midi channel and Play a stored sequence in Arturia, while connected to the Volca Sample (Beta 7) 2. Press Record button (you will see that the sequence mutes automatically, this is already weird). 3. press stop and replay the sequence.
