When I first bought my Korg Volcas I was excited to be adding some hardware synths to my setup. But when I got them integrated I was quickly disappointed. In this video I talk about how the Unofficial Pajen Firmware Update for the Korg Volca Sample and Korg Volca FM makes them finally useful to me.
I also break down my new song Mornings and go over my Logic Pro X project. I cover how I used the Unofficial Pajen Firmware on my Volca FM on a track as well as how I processed my vocals and guitars. Since I live in an apartment, I don't have access to a drum kit so I used Logic Pro's Drummer to give this song a real rock vibe.

Just got a used Sample - tried to update to PAJEN from PC - no luck, multiple cables and vol settings tried. I switched over to an Iphone 6, got it to go after several tries found that it worked at about 95% volume. Appreciate all the content in this video!
Normally you need to disable all equalization your system is running through your soundcard to have success in the pc (open task manager and kill all third party apps sound related and it should work). Also, make sure your volume isn't either too low or too high. This works too if you are having trouble to upload samples from pc.
I just installed this today - really cool. Breathes new life into an already fun and interesting unit. Note probability and bar filter are so fun to play with. Word of warning; I tried several times to play the update wav through Dropbox. It doesn’t work (I think it compresses it or something). Just go to the webpage on your phone and press download to play direct from the browser, lossless.
That was the only way I could get the install to work as well. Glad you got it working!

I could be wrong but I believe it’s the same as it would be straight out of the box. Hold memory as you power the Volca on and then you should be able to select from the keys 1 - 16.

Functionality wise, I'm trying to decide between buying a Sample 1 and install the Pajen firmware vs buying a Sample 2 and get the Retrokit RK-002 cable.
Is there an advantage of either setup? Am I mixing oranges with apples?

Thanks for this. Just a quick note: it didn't originally work on mine, so I switched my mini jack lead and no problem. Not sure what the issue is as it's a regular lead I use.
I believe I tried a few cables before it worked as well

I’m not sure if the Pajen firmware is compatible with the gen 2 volcas.
Hey man! I bought the sampler today and it seems like it is completely without any file in there. I just did all the process you showed but it still shows me 5.000 or 5.---. What should i do? Please help me.

The Volca Sample would be mint if it didn’t make that hiss noise. It’s the perfect weight and size and is mobile phone friendly, but that damn noise just ruins it 100%.
I’ve been able to minimize the hiss with a cheap ground loop isolator. It doesn’t fix it 100% but it helps with the hiss some.

The firmware update is the same on the Volca FM and the Volca Sample and I give specific examples on stuff to do ON the Volca Sample. Not sure what you were hoping for. SMH.
