      Silas Weir Mitchell really did a good job. You also can see from his interviews on RUclips the man is a full blooded pro. Same with FRINGE. Anna Torv´s German was good but the one spoken by Joshua Jackson had been horrible bad.

    I've been watching this in English and some of the German in that series is so bad that I needed the English subtitles in order to understand it, so badly did they pronounce it. Monroe has the least accent, but not a better grammar than the rest ^^

    • @Tamashi88
      @Tamashi88 7 лет назад +8

      and Monroe is supposed to be third or fourth generation American so you'd expect him to have a worse accent then the Royals who still live in Vienna!

      This is supposed to be VERY old German. German that hasn't changed for a few thousand years unlike the current German that has evolved and changed as all languages does.
      Even English is a Germanic language.

    • @uguku
      @uguku 4 года назад +5

      @@WolfFireheart German hasn't changed as much over the last 500 years as english has. It is very easy for natives to still understand the writings of Martin Luther for instance. Sure he uses some now uncommon archaic words, grammar and spelling but it is still easily understandable and the pronunciation hasn't changed that much either. You have to go back all the way to the 1300s to really run into issues and even then you can understand about 90% of it and can get most of the rest through context.
      The common ancestor of german and english lies far further back and english has been influenced by early french and nordic too a far greater extent than german has since.

    • @magador1
      @magador1 3 года назад +4

      @@uguku I have to contradict you. Of course German has changed over the past 500 years. I speak standard German as my mother tongue and seven German dialects, if someone from the south hears someone from the north speaking it is not guaranteed that they will understand each other. I suspect that the person who translated the words for the series was not a native speaker, as an example they "Blutbaden" should be "Blutbader" or are they from Baden?

    • @inotaishu1

      Can you blame them? These names are not only often misspelled but they definitely would not be used in German. In fact sometimes they changed the names completely, so e.g. "Hundjaeger" is "Todesdogge" and "Fuchsbau" is "Fuchsteufel" in German, both names that make way more sense if you ask me.

    Blutbaden is the plural? That makes no sense at all.

    • @Tamashi88
      @Tamashi88 7 лет назад +8

      you're right. Blutbad should pluralize as Blutbader (with an umlaut over the a). But it's a tv show and the phonetic morphology of Wesen might have shifted between when Blutbad took on that name and the present.

    • @ejnaygfantzcg
      @ejnaygfantzcg 7 лет назад +8

      Blutbader would actually be the correct plural, so the same as singular.
      Blutbäder would be the plural of "Blutbad".
      But Blutbaden is so wrong it hurts :D
