I prefer the movie version of Jack, since his natural malice is way more convincingly scary than the whole "omg the ghosts made me do it" schtick. Although the ghosts of King's novel aren't real, there are in fact many real husbands who resemble Kubrick's version of Jack. Cold-blooded brutes who murder their families. The ghosts symbolize the factors that cause fathers to abuse their wives and children. Alcoholism (the bar), work-related stress, marital issues (the old lady in the shower), mental illness and such. The concept of reincarnation alludes to the fact that domestic abuse carries on from one generation to the next and will never truly disappear. And that's why "The Shining" is such an amazingly horrifying film. Because the monster and the ghosts actually real. And they're all around us.
I don't know if you do anime/manga villains, but Kumagawa Misogi from Medaka Box is the only villain I've ever seen completely steal the show. He nabbed the top spot in every character poll they did for the manga, even over the main heroine if the story. Let me entice you with a quote: "If you take my deal then you're a worthless doctor who accepted a bribe. If you don't, then you're a worthless mother threw away her own son. Either way, your life will change from now on." He said this to a psychologist his parents took him to when he was 4 years old after threatening her 2 year old son so she would give him a clean bill of mental health.
Nicholson might be scary as hell, but Webber in the miniseries honestly brings some personality and dark humor to it, also he starts off as a much nicer guy, and his end is a lot different. True to the book he gets a brief moment to repossess his own body-- long after he should've died, by the way-- in order to hold off attacking his son so he can run away, and to say his goodbyes. Then his true, good spirit is shown to still be watching over them later in life. Less scary, yes, but not UNSCARY at all-- but he's a much better character for it.
I was always convinced Jack hated his family before he came to the overlook, the overlook simply became an almost fantasy come to life for him. He is truly horrible to Wendy and his son, with some theories suggesting even darker implications.
Can you do it's sequel doctor sleep and its villain rose the hat I always thought that doctor sleep is an underated sequel and while it certainly does not live up to the shining I feel that the villain is almost as jack himself

Another great villain review from Jay!
Glad you enjoyed!
Which villains are you considering for the next review
Please do Martin Hood from Larry Correia's Monster Hunter Vendetta. He kinda blurs the line between sympathetic and pure evil.
I'll add him to my list
It would be great to see an analysis on the villain from The Shining's sort of brother movie, The Exorcist, I mean, Pazuzu the demon.
Brilliant review 👏🏼

I don’t want to get demonetized for all the atrocities those villains commit
This guy looks like Jack Torrance from The Shining.
Early gang and do Kai from Kung fu panda
Jack Nicholson’s performance was phenomenal but Torrance was much more relatable in the book.
