The great Merm never EVER had to change the key of the song throughout her long career. Key of A-flat from the very first to the very final performance. What a rock solid, professional singer she was. She was also an American treasure.
@@subliminal5543 Garland sang without a mic on stage as well, and certainly never needed a warmup. Merman could belt, and she had good comic timing, but that's it. That's why she never made it in movies...she had a limited appeal, despite being a legend in her own way...
What a wonderful tribute to the great Ethel Merman. She was truly one of the great ladies of stage and screen. No One will ever be able to sing with that lilt that her voice had. She really was terrific.
The greatest singer of broadway music of all time!!! Even to this day when you hear her sing it brings tears to your eyes. No body can do this anymore and nobody wants to because people have forgotten how good talent like this was !!!!!
Back in the 80’s some friends and I were going to have our town’s first Ethel Merman look-a-like luau. We had party utensils ordered and in the planning stages when we heard she had passed away. I thought she was great and nobody could belt out this song like she could.
A beautiful montage of Ethel performing this immortal ballad she will ever be known for. Her signature song. A wonderful lady boomers like me who remember her miss so much.
The headaches, the heartaches, the backaches, the flops, when your heart beats like a drum, when the customers don't come, You're brokenhearted but you go on
Whoever shot this video did one heck of a job! What a loving treatment to Broadways one and only, The Merm. There was never anyone like her and it's sad to say we will never see anyone like her again. What a spectacular entertainer, Ethel we miss you !.
What a fantastic voice this great lady had. So powerful. They don't make them like that anymore. I've heard of Ethel Merman but had never heard any of her songs. Found this video by accident
This has got to be one of the best tributes to Ethel Merman EVER! What a lovingly brilliant way to show how consistent and brilliant Ethel's performance of this great anthem always were. The pull back shot with Ethel in the white movie dress where she gets smaller along with the image of her at the Boston Pops performance is nothing short of miraculous. Thank you!!!
she is THE broadway performer that revolutionized the path for ALL broadway stars... if I ever won a Tony and they asked who my inspiration was I'd hold my head high and say none other than ethal merman herself!!! love you ethal.... may you rest in piece
Someone asked who wrote Ethel’s song same as who wrote Kate Smith’s God Bless America..Irving Berlin! Two great performers..we will never see the likes again...enduring careers!
Merman was never really meant for the small screen or even the big screen. The bigger the room, the bigger the stage, the bigger Ethel gets. She will fill it all with her voice her dynamism, and her incomparable presence. There were reasons that the great lyricists, and composers of her era wrote for her instead of sweeter, more classically trained voices. They wanted to be sure those seats were filled and the people in them heard every note they wrote and understood every word they wrote. Ethel made sure of that.
what an incredibly fantastic video/tribute to the greatest Broadway performer of ALL TIME - the incomparable ETHEL MERMAN!!! LimeVid2 you did the most fabulous tribute to EM anyone could have ever done, thank you very much!!
Wish we had some earlier Ethel Merman. Her voice developed quite a wobble from around 1940 or so on I guess, but her earlier vibrato was much different. The best thing about her voice is that as she aged she didn't lose any power. Still Ethel.
Merman, later in her career, had the impossible task of competing with herself, as this video deomonstrates. She was at her peak in the 1957 duet with Mary Martin. She set a standard that even she couldn't top.
This is cool. It's kinda interesting and...well, interesting. In most of the varied clips, La Merm sounds exactly the same -- and does the same gestures. funny. Thanks for making this collage...
The true magic of Ethel Merman has to be experienced LIVE. As time goes by, there are fewer and fewer people who did and her reputation has suffered. Her amazing in-person appeal did not translate well to any recorded medium.
Read Ginger Roger's bio. Gershwin needed a dynamic singer for Girl Crazy. Ginger recommended Ethel. Love to hear stories of show biz folk giving a leg up to others. Yes often what goes around comes around.
The Merm the best of the best! Ethel there will never be any one like you!
RIP MS. MERMAN WE MISS YOU.
Ethel Merman was the best of the best. She was a super star 🌟
It's such a shame that we don't have singers like Ethel Merman nowadays. We will forever miss her.
You mean loud?
As a kid, I didn't realize at the time how brilliant it was to have Ethel sing that song to Fozzie. Now I do.
There's no business like show business. And there's NO ONE like ETHEL MERMAN! 🏆 👑
The great Merm never EVER had to change the key of the song throughout her long career. Key of A-flat from the very first to the very final performance. What a rock solid, professional singer she was. She was also an American treasure.
It doesn't matter if its Judy Garland or Ethel Merman, God has spread his gifts all around. God bless theses ladies for sharing their gifts with us!
One of my favorite songs from the movie only she can belt out with that voice
Wow! What a tribute!! *Grabs tissue*
Even the legendary Judy Garland stood in awe of her buddy Ethel Merman, as the greatest "belter" of all time.........
Hahaha. That was funny....
@@DDumbrille she outsang her with ease
@@subliminal5543 She could outsing a freight train, that didn't make her 'the greatest'...
@@DDumbrille she sang 50 years without mic over an orchestra. And she’s on Broadway, with no warmup before she sings. And she’s self taught at that.
@@subliminal5543 Garland sang without a mic on stage as well, and certainly never needed a warmup. Merman could belt, and she had good comic timing, but that's it. That's why she never made it in movies...she had a limited appeal, despite being a legend in her own way...
If ever a singer and a song were meant for each other
What a wonderful tribute to the great Ethel Merman. She was truly one of the great ladies of stage and screen. No One will ever be able to sing with that lilt that her voice had. She really was terrific.
She was fabulous-one of a kind-thanks
WOW. What an amazing vid. Just found it. Well done. And thank you.
The greatest singer of broadway music of all time!!! Even to this day when you hear her sing it brings tears to your eyes. No body can do this anymore and nobody wants to because people have forgotten how good talent like this was !!!!!
That's for damn sure Scott! well said!
Plus the singers today can’t belt it out like she did....Before the actors had microphones on stage
Am I tripping?? This is too surreal. The original 'Mermanator' in six dimensions. Whoa.
That lady has a good set of pipes!
What's better than one Ethel Merman? Many Ethel Mermans!
Back in the 80’s some friends and I were going to have our town’s first Ethel Merman look-a-like luau. We had party utensils ordered and in the planning stages when we heard she had passed away. I thought she was great and nobody could belt out this song like she could.
I had a tear Bravo Bravo 🥰
I never tire of hearing Ethel sing.

Sing out Louise
Quite the best performer ever. We miss you Ethel. Beautiful tribute. Thank you.
I cannot stop watching this....great, well deserved tribute...we will never again see or hear the likes of the great Merm..this was Broadway,,!
The Muppets sketch has to be the absolute best weaving of her famous song into working perfectly with Fozzie Bear. Perfect.
What a fabulous tribute! I gave it a standing ovation.

What a Perfect sounding Voice. I Love these performances of that Song.
She just kept getting better.
What can I say absolute class nuff said ♥️😄

QSeven MERMANS WOW,
WOW!WOW! Who could ask for anything more!! Love it!!!!!
A great tribute! No doubt she could have performed that song in her sleep. It was that much a part of her! A true embodiment of "show business".
Someone asked who wrote Ethel’s song same as who wrote Kate Smith’s God Bless America..Irving Berlin! Two great performers..we will never see the likes again...enduring careers!
She always delivered the goods and I really do respect her for that.Ethel was nothing short of dynamite ; incredibly exciting.
My friend, I love this so much!!! I play it over& over & over again!!!! LOVE, TRUE LOVE!!!💗💗💗
I Love her Great Voice. It sounds Perfect.
:Lovingly compiled and overlayed... magnificence... not many can be so identified with a song as she was.
That was so delightful!
This is the Mermanverse of Madness and I love it ❤
I love the chiffon Schmatta
I do, too! That is a perfect description for the dress
This is insane. She was a gift. And thank you for the compilation.

Great montage!
This is awesome! Thank you!! I remember when she died in Feb. 1984. Was on my birthday. :(
There was only one Merman!
Ethel Merman overload!
THANKS SO MUCH.
So clever! Delightful!
I just watched "Hershey Felder as Irving Berlin." When he presents this song, he refers to Ethel Merman as a "foghorn."
Thank you! :)
